Unemployed People, How Are You Coping In This Harsh Economy? by UNNGRADUATEEE: 1:57pm On May 24 |
The wrong perception people have about unemployed ones is that they are lazy. Unemployed people aren't lazy just that they don't have the opportunities you have. I use myself as a case study to narrate my unemployment story. Prior to graduation, I have never envisage that this day would come in my life. I finished Nysc successfully and worked in several jobs as a contract staffs here in Benin, Edo state. I keep reiterating this that contract staffs are deliberately manipulated to be used and dumped by employers because it's nearly impossible for them to retain you no matter the sacrifices you put through for the company. I am in a dilemma now, because I have exhausted all my possible options to get a good job. I am business oriented too but I need Capital to start up, lack of Capital have handicapped me vigorously. I have done menial jobs like carrying blocks, painting and even domestic chores just to keep body and soul together. I know that am not the only one in this predicament, I really need others to air their views too on how they are coping too. I feel so depressed, frustrated and psychologically exhausted due to all these unemployment travails roping me right now. I wish I died long time ago rather than experiencing these pains. Exactly now I know why people most times give up in life and commit suicides. In addition, I have hustled for job, I have trekked to the extent that my black slippers now know the direction to roads even when my mind is absent when walking. Imagine I trekked today from 2nd junction in Benin to Oluku and even to toll gate( Those in Benin would understand this distance). I have scouted for job in Lagos but Lagos is too expensive now for an Unemployed to cope. I have scouted for job in Abuja too but if you don't have the connection in Abuja then just forget about breathing. I'm fed up with life but I believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel, I am not lazy to work just that I don't have the opportunity. I hope the mercy of God would locate me one day and give me a destiny helper. The economy and cost of living is just too harsh these days. Please let's share our story and probably it can inspire others. Unemployed ones please how are you all coping too in this harsh economy? 10 Likes 1 Share |

Hamachi:How can it be the latter? The depression that comes from unemployment is worse than that of underemployment. At least in the useless job your mind can escape for a bit. 3 Likes |

Graduates should look beyond degrees and take up a relevant skill that can put food on their tables. Look into skills that are trending in this time and learn and keep on learning. Truly, the society does not care about how you survive. Just make sure that what you do is legit! 1 Like |

You may not like my advice, but here is what I will suggest, 1) leave benin, or any city/town you have been searching, toiling and hustling all these years, sometimes the shame and embarrassment of doing odd jobs among those we grew up with is a big hindrance to genuinely starting from the scratch. 2) once in the new town, find a big bet9ja shop and enroll as a worker (cashier), the average bet9ja cashier makes about 3-5k daily from virtual winning changes, that is...if a customer wins say 795 naira, he will only receive 700, the extra 95naira goes to the cashier that played the game. Winnings are payed in value of hundreds. These 95nairas can on some days sum up to as much as 5k and on some very good day sum up to 10-15k. if you can overcome the temptation to play virtual with your daily earnings, you will definitely be well fed. All your daily needs as a young man will be met And still earn a salary of about 15-25k monthly. 3) join a good church and be extremely active! After you must have started working in the betshop, your Sundays will most likely be free, join the ushering unit in your church and be active in service. After 6 months of active service and sufficient familiarity, announce to the congregation through the pastor that a young, God fearing and dedicated brother is seeking and willing to drive any member's keke-napep at higher purchase terms. Depending on how big the church is, if you run this verbal ad for at least 1 year, you will find some great offers. 4) if luck smiles on you, be truthful and diligent, pay your weekly or monthly deposits in line with the agreed terms. Once in this stage, you can be sure of saving between 15-30k(after fueling) daily! This is better than corporately slaving away for 150-200k monthly. If God helps you, in 1year6months, you should have paid up your higher purchase, owned the tricycle and have enough savings to even buy another tricycle. 5) lastly...fear God and flee fornication, nothing under the sun limits a man like the lust in his loins. I pray God will help all struggling Nigerian graduates 🙏amen 4 Likes |
