Neither you nor the OP is wrong. You could have thanked him for trying to pass a good message, then make what he said better and more correct.

He wasn't wrong in drawing the conclusion that being rich makes it harder to get into the kingdom of heaven. He, however, made the mistake of confusing correlation with causation.
Like you rightly said, it's not being rich that makes heaven difficult, it's what comes with being rich.

Don't make assumption of people's intentions. Give them the benefit of doubt. If he is so ignorant, then your role is to correct them with kindness.

And God knows best

I should have been milder with my words I guess. But I assure you that some actually twist Bible to suit an agenda.

The key lesson in that Biblical portion is that even someone who isn't rich can put their trust in other things. The Bible speaks of those who trust in men. Some trust in evil powers. Some trust in their own strength.

The lesson there, I believe, isn't confined to financial or material riches, but in trusting in anything and letting it take the place of God.

Most of them are not after making heaven but only fulfilling earthly destiny by acquiring wealth, luxurious cars and private jets.
They are not even sure of their making heaven

Abraham, His friend, was wealthy.

Many many of God's people in the Old Testament were wealthy.

In the new testament, Joseph of Arimathea was wealthy.

Barnabas was wealthy.
Many in the early church were rich!

Abusing a Bible verse to push a silly narrative would not suffice.

You can't build a doctrine on just one single passage, more so one single phrase which is misunderstood...

Mark 10:17-25
[17]And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
[18]And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
[19]Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
[20]And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
[21]Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
[22]And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
[23]And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
[24] And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that TRUST IN RICHES to enter into the kingdom of God!
[25]It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Apparently, the clarification here is what Mark supplies us. Jesus wasn't talking about the average rich man anywhere, but a rich man that trusts in His riches instead of trusting in God.

And that is a no-brainer. To trust in riches is to not trust in God. The Epistles also echo the same thought to rich Christians.

1 Timothy 6:17-18
[17]Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
[18]That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

God is not against wealth. Wealth is a useful tool for His work on earth OBVIOUSLY. What is against God is to allow money to take God's place. That's what Jesus and His Apostles addressed.

Christianity does not elevate acquiring material possessions, this is very evident in the gospels, all those names you listed are Jewish patriarchs, it has nothing to do with Christianity

I think Op is making a point.

It should have been
"if they fail to help the poor".

Come to think of it, in the early church, there was breaking of bread from house to house, but right now preachers live in luxuries while members in penury.
Re: Wealthy Pastors Flying Private Jets Will Find It Difficult Making Heaven! by jidowu84: 12:23pm On May 26
Who told you that making heaven is sbjected to being poor or comfortable? Abraham is blessed and he's in heaven. Solomon also, King David all in heaven
So clear your doubt bro. Put your brain to work and get rich legitimately and serve God genuinely with your heart. Pay attention to all jis commandments. Don't defraud people like omonor efeoghene and his @roqqupay staffs that are rubbing people of their money o. Else, na hellfire sure for you be that.
Stay away from roqqupay. Don't get trapped! They wiped my wallet balance all remain just #7

I understand. Haven't we all come across those people. But one still has to try to be fair, so one doesn't mislabel intentions.

And you're right too. It speaks to a bigger point, not just riches. I'm glad you noted that it's more to do with trusting in things other than God.
The Quran confirms that when it asked (Have you [not] seen the one who has taken as his god his desires...)

The bold Truth. You can't be flying private jets and your members who you used their tithe and offering to buy the jet , will be wallowing in poverty without any form of help. All rich pastors in Nigeria can't make heaven. They are the highest Yahoo men on earth . Their is one in warri. He doesn't even preach the Bible which is our standard as a Christian. All he will tell you is prophecy upon prophecy. The makeup of the pastor wife shows no morality of a Christian . She paint and dress like prostitute

Rich Pastors and Christians will find it difficult making heaven !!!

Matthew 19:23-24
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

Why did Jesus say this? Let’s look at the preceding verses?

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’

20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

This rich young man was a child of God faithfully keeping his commandments just like many Christians and Pastors today and he was so confident of his stance in God and asked Jesus what he could do to get eternal life!
When Jesus told him to sell ALL his properties and GIVE TO THE POOR and then follow him, he walked away Sad!

As a pastor or Christian flying private jets, driving expensive cars and living a life of luxury, Jesus is saying, Sell All and give to the poor and follow him! Jesus said to attain perfection and build treasure in heaven u must do this!
This appears difficult and unfair to rich Christians? The disciples thought so as well. Let’s see their reaction in the verses that followed:

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”

26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Jesus explained that it may look difficult naturally but with God’s help it is possible!

We can invariably conclude from the teachings of Christ here that if you are a pastor living a life of luxury, flying jets and helicopters and some of your members are poor , heaven will be difficult to make for you! These are words directly from the mouth of Jesus who will decide whether we make heaven! His words are superior to any prophet, king , preacher or apostle in the Bible or in contemporary times!

Wrong teaching

The rich man didn't make heaven because he was rich but because he put his wealth before Christ.

You can be poor and still miss heaven. No be by financial status

Bros, you are pretty wrong about the interpretation of that verse.
You are only speaking about the characteristics of the passage and how it's written. You are not talking as a revealed person who understands the parable of Jesus Christ when He speaks.

Every richman who carries the revealed word of God will enter the kingdom of God.

God is not against riches, he owned the whole universe. Psalm 24:1-3.

God Himself blessed his true pastor without adding sorrow and much labours.

Any riches without Christ in it will not see the light of heaven.

Despite that God himself blessed Solomon, he became like the man asking Jesus about heaven.

He Solomon turned his riches unto idolatry, using it to worship idols.

That's is characteristics/ lay man language.

Now, the parable of the word of Jesus is in parable.
What is the meaning of Rich spiritually?

The meaning is word.
That's the word of God is the rich.
Like gold that the world run after.

Now, the man is not rich with the word of God in his heart.

But rich physically.

Jesus is saying, you are misinterpreting riches.

I wish we are in the Bible study to explain better.

[17]Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
[18]That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

God is not against wealth. Wealth is a useful tool for His work on earth OBVIOUSLY. What is against God is to allow money to take God's place. That's what Jesus and His Apostles addressed.

shelve the OP's Bible confusion

What about church members and non-Pastors flying private jets? Would those make heaven?

You need to completely understand the scriptures and the context of Jesus statement in order to stop misleading yourself and people like you.

When you read Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
That you are working for God doesn't mean you should be poor and not enjoy good things in life. As a matter of fact, God is the best and greatest Employer, and He rewards those that diligently seek Him.

Why the rich man may not enter into the kingdom of God is if the riches of the rich man are not from God, the rich man trusts in his riches, the rich man does not love God, the rich man is not conscious of heaven, or the rich man refuses to help the poor. Otherwise, the rich man will have a mansion in heaven with his crowns of good work and the poor man might still rot in hell.

Mark 14:7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me

Believe it or not, there will always be poor people, not only in the church but everywhere. Are you going to stop making progress in your life, buying cars and building houses because you have the poor, sometimes even in your family?

The Pastors, like other members of the society should keep helping the poor. But that your claim about Pastors flying private jets is heresy, not biblical and an unnecessary attack on Pastors

PS: Love God, fear God, work hard and be rich and stop misinterpreting the Bible

Jesus will fly private jet if he is in our time grin , he sailed on ships, rode donkeys, horses, and dine with top officials like Zacheus, and other leaders during his time. Jesus was never poor, mind you poverty can make you find it difficult to make heaven than riches. The most important thing is love (love for Man and love for God)

OP, today na Sunday oo, make we no quarrell oo. Which kain talk be this nah? Pls stop misquoting the bible.

I've not owned a private jet yet and I crave one. If its in the Lords plan for my life, I'd own one, definitely. Pastor Adeboye owns a jet and a copter but for outreach and evangelism purposes, not as a luxury. There was a time he told the church to sell the copter cos of the running cost, which they'd have put to use elsewhere but they refused. They said he needed it most. Someone like him who would be invited for a programme on all continents almost same time and would still conduct the mandatory monthly holy ghost service back home. How would these engagements have been possible without a private jet, can you tell? By the time he flies a commercial plane 2 times and he wasted almost a whole day on layovers, he'd barely be able to keep 2 appointments in one week out of their branches spread across the length and breath of the planet earth.

In his case, a private jet is a necessity. He can do European trips in less than one week. He can travel at his own pace and time without any hindrances.

I just like this man of God. He's one of those contributing immensely to our economy but via religious means, silently. He's the largest employer of labour in Nigeria with each church having at least one pastor globally. Each church also employs some workers too..gardeners, gatemen, security men, etc. In each Congress which draws over 10m members from across the globe, each visitor must bring in dollar or euro.

They bring the money into Nigeria and exchange it to Naira to spend locally. They barely go back with the dollar. Yet, one yeye politician would be saying church must be run as a business centre where they'd be paying taxes. All the hospitals pastor adeboye had spent billions of naira equipping nko? No federal government has that financial muscle. I don't want to even talk about those he's feeding free of charge. His school feeding programme surpasses what the federal government is taking fake glory over, all the time yet, he doesn't make noise about it. He constructed a federal road without making noise, which the contractor under fashola claimed he tarred and took that glory. He rehabilitates prison yards and feeds prisoners, etc. OP, you didn't see any of these before rushing to misquote those bible verses abi? Na only jet you dey see smiley

So, if a man of God is flying a jet cos of necessity as highlighted above, he'd make heaven oga OP. Leave God to judge everyone individually. Tnx

Pope John Paul has no PJ, And yes he hasore engagement that any Man of God you can tell. What i can deduce from the OP, is wealth is a huge distraction, hence if not properly managed will sffects all pastors involved

How many times does pope travel in a year? Past adeboye does that all the time. How many towns and cities does pope visit to conduct evangelism and crusade in Nigeria and overseas? Adeboye does that always
