The federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, has initiated the construction of a 500-unit housing estate in Kano as part of the “Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme.”

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano presided over the groundbreaking ceremony alongside Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, in Lambu village, Tofa LGA.

Governor Yusuf thanked President Tinubu for his visionary leadership in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit. He noted that the initiative will help curb the spread of informal settlements and reduce the housing shortage in the state.

Arc. Dangiwa explained that the Renewed Hope City in Kano will include 100 units of 1-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 300 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 100 units of 3-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.

He said the project was part of President Tinubu’s broader vision under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates project, which began with a 3,112-unit project in Karsana, Abuja.

He said the first phase aims to deliver 50,000 housing units across Nigeria.

“The cities will have between 500 – 1,000 housing units per site in each of the six geopolitical zones and the FCT, while the estates will have 250 units per site in the remaining thirty states,” Dangiwa said.

I thought government is about doing the will of majority of the people. Many people are crying of hunger in the country and their leader is thinking about building houses for them. Who told FG people can't build houses for themselves if building materials are affordable? There is no better way to describe wickedness of man than this

This is what every state supposed to do in their Capital cities as a matter of urgency. The price of house rent currently across the nation is so terrible. Most of the civil servants one year salary cannot afford a decent 2 bedroom house rent currently. I keep wondering why state governments can't invest in building estates and renting it out at a standard affordable price. This will help reduce the extortion currently going on in the country by agents and landlords. This should be seen as an emergency. It will also help in generating money for the government at the long run.

It is a misplaced priority sir. How many houses will government build for people? Our rulers don't just think rightly. When economy is in good shape and the cost of building materials is affordable, everyone(civil & non-civil servant) will build houses comfortably
