The Cross River Government, led by Governor Bassey Otu, has demolished a historic monolith structure.

Reports indicate that it has been replaced with a statue of Jesus Christ as a shepherd leading his flocks. Additionally, the flag of Israel has been hung on the staff of the statue.

The monolith, known as the Ikom monoliths, is part of a series of volcanic-stone monoliths from the area of Ikom. The Ejagham people are believed to have engraved the monoliths around 200 CE.

The monolith stands between 0.3 and 1.8 metres (1 and 6 feet) high and is laid out in some 30 circles located around Alok in the Ikom area of Cross River State.

This change has sparked mixed reactions on social media.

Ironically, the first transatlantic Slave ship to transport kidnapped slaves to the New world was named ' The Good Ship Jesus ' .

The tragedy of that historic voyage still haunts the Negro race till this day. For, ever since that voyage, the Evil ship Jesus has continued kidnap and enslave the minds of the Negro race.

You are simplying replacing the forefathers culture with the white man's culture you have been brainwashed with. These jesus sculptures you remove those ancient monoliths for, are simply fictions of someone's imagination somewhere..

Indeed.. religion is the opium of the masses..

When muslims sack entire villages in the north and rename them and install emirs, don't complain about one-Nigeria.
Religion comes AFTER culture.

The Ikom monoliths are a series of volcanic-stone monoliths from the area of Ikom, Cross River State, Nigeria. The Ejagham may have engraved the monoliths around 200 CE.[1]

Description
Numbering about 300 in total, the monoliths are between 0.3 and 1.8 metres (1 and 6 feet) high and are laid out in some 30 circles located around Alok in the Ikom area of Cross River State. The monoliths are phallic in form and some feature stylized faces as well as decorative patterns and inscriptions. Although the carvings have not been deciphered, researchers and linguists believe that the inscriptions may represent a form of writing and visual communication.[2][3]

What a shameful act by people who do not make good use of their brains. Uninformed fellows. The Israeli flag says it all. They have put up the European-looking white Jesus. Who told you that was how he looked? An accurate depiction of Jesus could have been put up, with the monoliths still there.

Why can't they build the status of Jesus somewhere else?
People be acting so religious yet they are the most diabolical and wicked individuals in the society.
That structure can act as monument for tourism in the state.
The money they used in erecting that structure can feed some people.

Misplaced priority! This is the reason why history is important. These monuments are not evil, they are part and parcels of our history. They shows how we have gradually progress cognitively, socioculturally, and religiously. They are state monuments. He could have cited the statue of Jesus another strategic place.

shocked

Did I read this right? An ancient site destroyed and replaced with a new statute of Jesus? A site that is capable of generating wealth for generations? It wasn't even moved but destroyed entirely yet the statute of Alexander the great a pagan still stands today?

There's something fundamentally wrong with the way a black man thinks, no matter how religious you are, if in deed that site has existed for hundreds of years, common sense should let you know that this is a bad move.

But what do you expect in a country where tourism especially in the countryside is dead and crude oil is still being held on like a child holding onto his mother's bréast? Black folks have successfully destroyed their identity because they do not understand how to give to Caesar what belongs to him, that's why these afrocentrists are bent on holding onto ancient civilizations to make themselves feel better.

Tell me exactly how these kind of leaders can birth original ideas that is needed to create the perfect blueprint to build long lasting civilization. Like one of my favorite North American said, "And every man needs to know where he came from, 'cause he's heading for the gravestone."
