I'm sure you're aware he was born in Minna?

And yes, he was. That's an anglicisation to make a book title more marketable

And even then, you won't tell me you don't know or you haven't heard from anyone, or you haven't seen it used, particularly on Nairaland's less savoury sections, as a slur

But like I said, I'm trying to get home in one piece.

I posted something attached before spam bot got me which I screenshotted and attached

It seems NELFUND has began processing student loan applications for undergraduates in federal universities. If you know anyone in Fed Uni in need of student loan, you can ask them to apply.

https://www.nelf.gov.ng/

The student loan looks good on paper and may as well be one of the good legacies Tinubu can leave behind( If it is properly administered )

Sometimes last week I read in the papers that the pilot phase of the loan will be accessible to only students in Federal owned higher institutions (.i.e. FG owned Varsity, Polytechnic and College of Education). Maybe state owned schools will be added later or their respective governors will have to float something similar to complement FG's program in their respective states , only time will tell.

That being said, I have just one major concern which I didn't see addressed in the news article. According to plan the student's fees will be paid directly to the school's account and not handed over to the student .

My concern is let's say a student has been on the student loan from year one and after year three due to poor academic performance, exam malpractice or cultism he gets expelled/rusticated from school; how will the FG recoup the principal they have expended on such students from year 1 to 3? Remember a student is expected to start repayment 2 years post graduation. How will the FG recoup from students who don't graduate eventually ?

Also, for those who get 1 to 2 extra year, will FG keep paying their school fees for those extra years ?

You are the one telling me its a slur and I took your word for it, Just like I took your words on Achebe spelling Ibo to mock the colonialist
You havent given be a reason why Ekwensi, Achebe two of the greatest men to ever come out of Iboland are using the word and others cannot?

Anything can be a slur anywhere by a set of people. The Unlimited moniker can turn into a slur. Akpu eater can be a slur, Amala eater can be a slur

Will that stop you from eating your favourite meal?

Ethnic related violence did not happen in Lagos alone and it was all over the country, Your refusal to admit that while trying to localize it to Lagos is the problem

APC voters in the SE were molested, beaten and killed, but that does not suit your agenda you kept quiet. That is peddling falsehood and giving a coloration to an issue.

Say Hunger dey wire everyone for Nigeria is different from Hunger is targeted at Idoma people.
We should tackle falsehood everywhere

below is the picture of an elderly man molested for voting APC

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/c_CVh6csijg
Which of them is it, ethnic-related violence or party-related violence? It seems what Sodik and BluRay are saying is different from what you're saying...they're bringing evidence of people that were prevented from voting because of their tribe, and you're bringing evidence of people that were prevented from voting because of their party affiliation...violence is violence, but it's good to make that distinction.

I hope they won't disburse 30% and claim they have exceed more than 100%
Npower is still fresh in the mind, even this grant sef people don't have access to it and they claim more than 70% have collected

I really dont know anything about it but as many people that need it should apply and then wait.

According to what I read, they will add state university to eligible institutions in few weeks, Its currently open to only federal universities.

The loan is for 2 things, school fees and student upkeep. The school fees will be paid to the school directly while the upkeep will be sent to the student account.

You raise good points about student getting expelled or getting carryover. I don't know how they intend to go about that.

Nah I don't think state students should be given
No offence but they know what they are getting at picking state owned schools
The state government should bring out loans to their students

Apparently he's a protege of Dike Amadi who is a friend of the chief of staff to the governor.

No scale fell from his eyes, it's their turn to cash out from the government in power.

"A bill proposing regional government in Nigeria is expected before October 1, 2024."

How true is this? If BAT is able to pass this and sneak state/regional financial autonomy into this I just might become a Jagabandit.

A school is as good as the crop of lecturers teaching there and the funding available to the management. There's nothing special about federal schools, it is just the funding they have access to and the larger number of lecturers they have access to that makes the difference.

Nowadays sef, some private universities have better lecturers than Federal varsities. Some federal varsity lecturers have moved to private universities for better pay.

If state governments are intentional about spending on education, a lot of state schools will overtake federal varsities.

Seems to me like you'll be introducing new problems. Like how do you know an unserious student will not turn out to be serious later.

My first two years in uni were a disaster but I sat up in my last 2.

If people can easily access this loan, might just be a game changer in our tertiary education.

Loans are insurable actually. There's Credit insurance which will guarantee the lender that in the event a debtor is unable to pay the balance of a loan, the insurance company will pay the creditor back.

The problem with that is FG will be expending more cost if they do Credit insurance on behalf of students because we all know the students don't have money to pay for the insurance before accessing the loan. For normal bank loans, the bank will debit ur loan account for the insurance premium which means u the borrower would've even paid for the insurance before disbursement
