"A bill proposing regional government in Nigeria is expected before October 1, 2024."

How true is this? If BAT is able to pass this and sneak state/regional financial autonomy into this I just might become a Jagabandit.
Have always wanted everyman for himself
Let's have 4 major rulers, each state governors will be under them while emilokan remains the overall head
Disband all these useless ministers and house of reps, the governors will take over their positions
Disband senate president, vice president they are all useless
President
Regional rulers(North, South ,East ,West)
Governors

That's all everyone will sit up, no more miss management of funds

That will be discriminatory to new students now.

If you collect loan to study and you no serious, na your body go tell you when them begin drag you for repayment.

Saw this on Twitter that's why I decided to share.

If people can easily access this loan, might just be a game changer in our tertiary education.

Wow, this is good.

Shey it's a non interest loan. That's you pay the same amount you were given when you graduate.

Seems to me like you'll be introducing new problems. Like how do you know an unserious student will not turn out to be serious later.

My first two years in uni were a disaster but I sat up in my last 2.
Yea, no need for discrimination based on academic performance. You collect loan, you no serious na you know, you go rack gbese for neck. But then again, what stops people from collecting these loans and checking out of the country after their education? The student loan scheme works in the US and most developed countries because people are incentivized to stay back after schooling, not so with Nigeria, ask average graduate, their short-long term plan na japa. The number of persons that japa eventually is another discussion entirely, but people taking loans and migrating is something to consider.

If it's regional it'd probably be 6, but I want devolution down to the state level, with LGA autonomy existing even at the state level.

Loans are insurable actually. There's Credit insurance which will guarantee the lender that in the event a debtor is unable to pay the balance of a loan, the insurance company will pay the creditor back.

The problem with that is FG will be expending more cost if they do Credit insurance on behalf of students because we all know the students don't have money to pay for the insurance before accessing the loan. For normal bank loans, the bank will debit ur loan account for the insurance premium which means u the borrower would've even paid for the insurance before disbursement

I'm not sure they have a choice o. A lot of those loans will go bad. Except they are ready to write it off.

The bank my wife works had to stop their staff car loan because people were taking the loan and using it to fund japa. And once they japa, they don't service the loan.

Nothing like gbese we don't have good tracking system
The project will just die before the first term finish and the excuse will be students absconded with the money, some will even drop out

Exactly my thoughts. They will either have to insure those loans or be ready to write off a significant percentage.

These are the issues that actually need to be ironed out before they start disbursing. If these issues are not ironed out, the program will die a slow natural death despite how good it looks.

I hope the government actually consulted people in the financial services and didn't just leave everything to career civil servants, politicians, and political appointees. They need to run scenario analysis, do a lot of permutations and combinations.

The only problem is that this thing will not pass at the NA. Most of the Northern lawmakers will vote against it and they are the majority.

I've actually seen someone who joined cult in his 400l. Even though he wasn't rusticated sha, but imagine if someone like that gets caught up in a cult clash where lives are lost and he somehow he gets arrested and expelled. Where FG wan take collect the money they paid on his head till date?

It should have interest, that's what would make it sustainable, and 1% is damn low especially since there's loss in value due to inflation to consider.

Na so, and what stops the scenario that's playing out at the federal level from playing out at regional levels? The contraption should be split as much as possible and once and for all.

Bad debt
Imagine such situation in all federal schools across the country in just a session
About 50m will go just like that
They need to think it well, the idea is good but I don't trust Nigerians

I agree but they dont want to go the US style where the interest will just keep accruing and make it difficult for the beneficiary to fully pay back, that's why they are doing it interest free.

I know most of you Obidients are mischievous.

You know that's a response to Raumdeuter's reply to my first post (which has nothing to do with Obi) on the killing and you can't jump into conclusion that I knew Raumdeuter would include Obi in his reply.

Instead of state policing, they should just have it at the regional level
Like amotekun is suppose to be at the regional level
With this, one governor won't have all right on police because that's my fear
Imagine wike having right to entire police 😂😂

But you did not hesitate to include Obi as soon as he was mentioned even though you claim your original post had nothing to do with him. We know what we're doing. cheesy
