The power is in the hand of the lawmakers and the North has an overwhelming advantage.

They think they are at a disadvantage because their political leaders are very lazy and visionless. (Its not as if the southern one are any better anyways).
The north will only use their advantage to block anything that will lead to national progress. I'd rather they use it to develop their region too. Despite their advantage they are still the worst in all Human Development Indices.

Even if we are going back to regional govt, there will still be a form of representation of the people called Parliament. The people must have local leaders to represent them.

But your idea makes sense
Councillor should stand then
Those one will report to governor
The good thing is councillor should reside with the people so that they can enjoy or suffer with us
Either way we either praise or beat the shit out of such person😂

So you allowed Raumdeuter that doesn't have his wife in the SE stuck with IPOB miscreants to draw your attention away from the person (BAT) that you ought to be calling and directing your anger towards? It seems you're more interested in dragging Obi than in directing your energy towards a BAT that can do something about the situation.

No allow Airmark whine you. His wife is Igbo and he even served in Enugu. He is an honorary Igbo man

They are at a disadvantage
They ruled the country for decades and they failed to uplift themselves because they subscribe to unsustainable manifesto of alleviating poverty rather than eliminating it.

There were talakawas in the days of ahmadu bello. Why do we still have them 50 years later?.

The only way the north will get its shit together is if they confront the consequences of their actions and decisions head on. As it is they are like your neighbour with 20kids who is sharing compound with you with 3 kids. And you both have to share everything.

....soon, LGs will be freed from State Governors. Read what PBAT said to Arewa Group yesterday;

"We are running a constitutional democracy. I will appeal to you to summon the governors. I am doing my very best to enhance the revenue base of the country. They must equally be sympathetic, and they must urgently consider the needs of the local people.

"People reside in the local communities. That is where they work, farm, and live. If the local governments are not effective in delivering services; as leaders, we must not hang on to the numbers. We have 774 local government areas, but are they truly effective? Do they solve problems for Nigerians? Do they coordinate development programming with the state and federal governments?

"Who is being held accountable for the performance of the 774 local governments? Maybe we should look at recalibrating. What was good four years ago may not be good today. When we want the votes, we go to the locals; when we get the votes, we move to and focus on Abuja."

Actually I think it is. We all have BVN. People who thought they took anchor loan or wetin call were shocked when money was withdrawn from their account. Once you have a BVN, I don't think you can get away like that. And the fg will probably add some sort of school fees clearance like NYSC certificate.

Imho, student loans will drastically reduce the number of people who have no business being in university. Free / subsidised education unfortunately has meant a school to cult pipeline where people with no actual academic ambition enter uni with sole aim of being in cult.

Of what use is the BVN of someone who was rusticated from school and maybe ended in prison? The debt will go bad na

Lets start by asking how many regions are we planning to divide into and the last time we were regions, Many ethnic nationalities complained that they are suppressed

Some of us here are in somewhat monolithic regions don't know what it means to live in multi ethnic regions

Can you provide a rough template of how this regional thing will work?

Don't think about your region alone, think about how it applies to other regions outside yours

Lets start by asking how many regions are we planning to divide the country into

The original templates of North, MB, West, Midwest, SS, SW won't work?

1. Where did that original template come from? I doubt we ever had anything like that at anytime. In 1966 we had 4 regions North, West, Midwest, East

In the 90s it became 6 regions NE, NW, NC, SS, SE and SW

So which of these are we going with? The 1960s or the 1990s

The State Governors will always use the SHoA to block any constitution amendment that wants to grant LG autonomy.

Same way most Northern lawmakers will seek to block giving each state resource control.

1 - 1 score draw.

That regional talk is a discussion going nowhere IMO.

We are too different. Lets even say SW and SE will agree to the regional arrangement because we are largely of same stock, So where and how do you propose the SS region come together? what similarity is any exist between Auchi man and A Calabar man. Where will capital be, what do they have in common, they dont even speak the same language nor worship the same thing nor believe in the same thing

An Edo man that has tasted autonomy will now be banded with someone from AkwaIbom and be taking orders from wherever the capital is (Assume its portharcourt)

Na from SS and NC(middle belt) that talk of regional govt will scatter

In our bid not to tackle corruption, we begin dey find regions and provinces.

If we like, make we divide am to 774 regions, In 2pac's voice, "I see no changes".

If corruption was almost zero in this country, we wouldn't even care about most of all these.

I am both Chairmen of Progressive Governors Forum, Gov. Hope and Nigeria Governors Forum, AbdulRahman are in the loop.

The Judgement will favour LG autonomy and full financial Independence.

“If a country is uni-lingual and uni-national, the constitution must be unitary.

"If a country is uni-lingual or bi-lingual or multi-lingual and also consist of communities, which over a period of years, have developed divergent nationalities, the constitution must be federal and the constituent states must be organized on the dual basis of language and nationality.

"If a country is bi-lingual or multi-lingual, the constitution must be federal and the constituent states must be organized on a linguistic basis.

"Any experiment with a unitary Constitution in a bi-lingual or multi-national country must fail in the long run."
