That regional talk is a discussion going nowhere IMO.

We are too different. Lets even say SW and SE will agree to the regional arrangement because we are largely of same stock, So where and how do you propose the SS region come together? what similarity is any exist between Auchi man and A Calabar man. Where will capital be, what do they have in common, they dont even speak the same language nor worship the same thing nor believe in the same thing

An Edo man that has tasted autonomy will now be banded with someone from AkwaIbom and be taking orders from wherever the capital is (Assume its portharcourt)

Na from SS and NC(middle belt) that talk of regional govt will scatter

I don't think the idea is to totally eliminate the differences because that is impossible, even if every state becomes a country of it's own. The truth is, considering our population, land mass and other dynamics, our system of government is too big and expensive, consequently, the people, especially those in the local government are not benefitting from governance. An Auchi man and Calabar man may not have similar cultures but they have more similarities between both in comparison to a Norther or SW. Now, I don't necessarily think a regional system will resolve all our issues or is the best but I know our current Federal system isn't working for the majority.

I am in agreeement that the current system is not working effectively but IMO the best way around it is fiscal autonomy and strenghtening of LG

Carrying everyone into regions will not work well, When we had regions, The Midwest broke away the Eastern minorities were always seeking to break away from the Eastern region. Its the agitation to control your local destiny that led us to 36 states

By going regional into say 6 regions you are basically telling the man from Auchi who is going to Benin to now have to travel to Calabar or PH for representation or telling the Offa or Igbira man to travel to far away Jos instead of Ilorin and Lokoja who are relatively nearer

The closer the govt And each federating unit is to the people the better, Its easier for someone in Ikere Ekiti who doesnt have water to approach his LG chairman at the LG headquarters 15mins away than for him to have to travel to Ibadan a journey of 4hrs to meet his rep

he probably knows the chairman and the chairman lives among them vs the guys in Ibadan

In our bid not to tackle corruption, we begin dey find regions and provinces.

If we like, make we divide am to 774 regions, In 2pac's voice, "I see no changes".

If corruption was almost zero in this country, we wouldn't even care about most of all these.
Abi ooo, This is just forming activity on Tinubu path, he is beholden to the North, they made him President, so will be foolish to expect him to rock that boat, seeing that regional govt is seen as a southern agenda.

If APC wanted it, their best chance was when mannequin Buhari was president - he haf the clout in the north to pull it off, but it is something considered as anti-north, so won't fly.

Nigeria must be restructured and must start with regional Government.

That's if the northerners will let it fly because they believe it is anti-north 😂😂😂😂

Currently, that same Auchi man has Federal political representation of his community in Abuja which is outside Edo and farther from Calabar or PH. You are never going to eliminate the differences but the similarities, geographically especially is a tremendous pro that brings governance closer to the people in comparison to what we have now. The idea is to drastically reduce the power at the top because it is not devolving to the people who need most.

As it stands today, the SW and SE are better positioned to transition away from the Federal/ top heavy system of Government. As for the embolden, just forget about it because the North will never allow it to happen because they will suffer most if we practice true fiscal resource control and Federalism. our LGs need total autonomy even if we move away from Federalism.

If we have effective local government administration, most of this issue wont even crop up.

Crippling local government administration was the bane of the decay of this country and only an effective local government administration can begin to revive it.

The proposed Region is replacing State govt and not replacing FG

When we ran the regional system, there was still FG but nothing like State govt. Basically you are collapsing 36 states into 6 under 1 FG

Regarding Fiscal autonomy, It can be sold that you keep 60% and send 40% to the center or whatever percentage works

They fear it because regional government will lead to regional resource control. Our politicians are living a soft life of waiting till end of the month to enjoy the proceed from oil.

Going into regions means every region will have to work on their resources to develop themselves which our lazy politicians doesn't want.

In the previous regional government that we had, there was still a federal parliament, no?

Nigeria's biggest strength has been tampered with until it's become a bone around its neck.

Our diversity suppose be our calling card but the few people at the top have successfully weaponised the thing to the point millions of people would rather die than be ruled by someone of a different tribe.

See Belgium, Switzerland, and the ultimate use case, The USA. Filled with people who mistrust each other but have found ways to make the damn thing work because of the collective good.
Even the Cyprus model, where there are basically two defacto states in one country, them no Wan adopt am.

It is sickening, wallahi.
Plenty resources both mineral and human, but we just dey dash them to the West and the majority of people wallow in poverty.

It's frankly such a sad situation.

This population, but not a world power, not even a regional power, no purchasing power, no exports aside oil, no manufacturing or industries, nothing.

It is painful, wallahi.
