FG Rejects ₦494,000 Wage Demand, Warns Of ₦9.5 Trillion Economic Burden by BeeBeeOoh(m): 9:39pm On Jun 01 |
The Federal Government has declared the organised labour’s demand for a national minimum wage of N494,000 as economically unsustainable, warning it could destabilise the economy and negatively impact over 200 million Nigerians. https://punchng.com/fg-rejects-labours-n494000-wage-demand-warns-n9-5tn-economic-burden/ 5 Likes 1 Share

If paying 494,000 as the minimum wage is economically unsustainable, the federal government should tell Nigerians how much minimum wage is economically sustainable. 107 Likes 4 Shares |

Both the labour and the federal government are not serious. The amount being proposed by the FG is too meagre and labour's proposed amount is too outrageous. I think a minimum wage of N100k for states and N125k for federal workers is fair enough. Honestey: I didn't say so. Don't twist my comment oga. Currently, some states pay far above FG minimum wage for their workers. But there must be a benchmark for all states. Some can go above it, but none should go below the benchmark. You and I know that some states in Nigeria are super rich while some are very poor. Lagos, Rivers can decide to pay N200k, or even above, but no state should pay below N100k. That's my point, it's just an opinion. 36 Likes 1 Share |

Labour should benchmark their minimum wage against fuel price. For instance how much litres can ₦60k buy today? Any day fuel price increases their payment should also increase or it should be benchmark against dollar. This is the only way our leaders will stop listening to world Bank and know that Nigeria problems require a local solution. 77 Likes 5 Shares |

helinues:why can't the government be considerate for once. I am not supporting the 497,000 labour is putting out, but if the government put something considerate, labour will listen. What labour is doing is that they know that the government would present something smaller if they had presented a smaller figure. Let the government be serious and present a better figure. 60k is small compare to how they lavish money and there huge salary 20 Likes 2 Shares |

.....but the same Tinubu released a supplementary budget in trillions of naira days after he was sworn in to take care of the followingthemselves) 1. Repair and renovate the presidential villa 2. To complete the abandoned Vice Presidents official residence 3. Replace presidential fleet 4. Replace the First Lady's fleet and the wife of the Vice President 5. Buy new cars for all the national assembly members 6. Pay for the presidential yatch 7. Buy SUVs and security vehicles for all presidential aides 8. Pay all the allowances for all national assembly members in advance. 9. Buy new furniture for the villa ans all the guest houses including Dodan Barracks in Lagos that was not necessary nor needed. The economy was not destabilised then. Now, it is the minimum wage that will destabilise the economy. Idiots them. Nigerians are not ready for good governance yet. 32 Likes 2 Shares |

Ofunaofu: Do you have a business? Can you pay your least worker N494k? How many private schools, hospitals, restaurants etc can pay a minimum wage of N494k? Abia state is a Labour Party state. It is one of the state that is yet to fully implement the N30k minimum wage since 2019. How will Abia state pay a minimum wage of N494k? Make it make sense. Labour’s demand is unreasonable and unrealistic. It’s time for them to stop playing politics and make a sensible proposal. Anything above N100k is unrealistic. 18 Likes 1 Share |

kingreign:don’t mind this senseless boys… there have been programmed to think there don’t deserve nothing. Was there any drama when the salaries of the judiciary was increased recently? Or will there be any drama when the salary of the executive officers and legislative will be increased? If we need to suffer let us suffer together. If there think the demand of labor is too much. Let them show the will and reduce their own salaries to reflect the present realities in Nigeria. 10 Likes |

A lawmaker earns 30mil monthly. This is aside sitting allowance, oversight allowance, committee allowance and kickbacks.Tinubu is awarding inflated contracts to his children's company despite his wife boasting that they are richer than Nigeria. So Tinubu is saying only him and the lawmakers have rights to the treasury. No nah! Labour want salary equivalent to $120 only, but convered to naira, it is 200k & government said that is totally unrealistic (especially state governors, some are owing 6 months wages of 30k/month). This is a perfect time to lunch a communist party (if the people were not divided on tribe and religion). 6 Likes |

seunmsg: It is states that are secretly telling FG, "we can't o". Otherwise they would settle since. If you can have two or three ghost workers, you are a millionaire. Anyway, no one takes them seriously. They would soon call off the strike (as usual), I would advise working to not make other plans and iron their work clothes. |

If NEPA and filling station join the strike for one month, they wouldn't be much impact (from my side of the country because it is already a 'failed state' no basic human needs). 3 Likes |
