Even if you slashed the executives and legislatives take home, it won't still catch up with the ridiculous amount labour is demanding.

Their N494,000 is the basic salary, how much would those in level 16 be earning monthly?
Then they should return the country back to where they met it in 2015... And nobody will bother them with increment..

If yo can have a budget of 20trilion and 9.5 trillion is being distributed across Nigerians, expect a boom economy harvest.... People will go to farm, kidnapping will stop, startup businesses will boost. And the remaining 10trillons even if you stole it....the citizens won't notice it.

But if you can have a budget of 20trilion and the implementation is less than 18% while the rest is being siphon, what do you expect in that country.

So, I see nothing on having 9.5t burden if it can change the economy for good and say bye to hunger and poverty

Politicians should reduce their bogus allowances and bonuses by 70%, invest the savings in agriculture so as to reduce the rate of inflation especially for foodstuff. Investment is the actual sustainable solution, not increase in minimum wage. But we know the ogas at the top will rather find more ways to pillage the already comatose treasury than reduce their largesse.

If the economy was good and better..price of fuel disel kerosene is cheap and affordable, foodstuffs is cheap, cost of living is low, house rent is affordable , the naira has value against the dollars, environment is conducive for bussinesses companies industries to thrive which will create more jobs for the youths and nigerians, rural villages communities development, transportation cheap, inflation is low...not rising ..NLC, nigerians and workers will not be agitating for a new minimum wage or increase in salaries ..it's the bad economy and high costs of living, hunger, poverty, hardship, inflation that make NLC, nigerians to agitate for salaries increament...so government try and address the economy and make it better and good

Labour want salary equivalent to $120 only, but convered to naira, it is 200k & government said that is totally unrealistic (especially state governors, some are owing 6 months wages of 30k/month).

This is a perfect time to lunch a communist party (if the people were not divided on tribe and religion).

Maybe Government should start selling fuel in dollars, since u want FG to start paying them in dollars.

High minimum wages will lead to inflation, nah d masses go suffer it.

If dem no go work, FG will still pay them. Since the pay is small, why are they replacing themselves with thier children??

Alot of qualify youths are outside looking for work.

You guys are too slow in understanding. For the fact that labour is demanding for 494,000 doesn't mean it's a must that FG must pay. Can't you see the amount is reducing as negotiation is going on? Labour want the FG to come up with something reasonable. If you notice, FG added 6k to make it 60k and labour also reduced Thier demand by 6k also. FG is not coming up with something reasonable. So the 494000 is negotiable figure. Let FG come up to reasonable amount and Labour will accept. Simple.
To be sincere, 60k is not sustainable.
Pls take not, 494,000 demand is not a basic salary as you quoted above. Minimum wage comprises of basic salary and some other allowances.

Labour should benchmark their minimum wage against fuel price. For instance how much litres can ₦60k buy today? Any day fuel price increases their payment should also increase or it should be benchmark against dollar. This is the only way our leaders will stop listening to world Bank and know that Nigeria problems require a local solution.

Thank you for this submission. A lot of people posting here don’t do any form of analysis.

In 2019, minimum wage was 18000 which was equivalent to $88. Today, minimum wage is 30000 which is equivalent to $22. In 5years, an average Nigerian worker’s purchasing power has drastically reduced to the point that even food manufacturing companies now have warehouses full of unsold inventory. This is why companies are leaving the country.

When a worker can’t feed himself not to talk of his family. He can’t pay rent. He can’t pay utilities, cover medical bills and even pay for vacation or holidays. How will the economy grow. Who will patronize products manufacturing or service rendering outfits?

They increase electricity rates by 300%. They increase fuel price by 200%, food inflation from 2019 till date is over 400% but here they’re telling us minimum wage should not exceed 100% increment and we have some people still supporting them.

494000 labour is demanding is just $350 a month, is it too high? 60000 FG is offering is just $44 a month, is that a living wage?

I agree completely with you, our minimum wage should be pegged to the dollar exchange rate.

Both the labour and the federal government are not serious. The amount being proposed by the FG is too meagre and labour's proposed amount is too outrageous.

I think a minimum wage of N100k for states and N125k for federal workers is fair enough.

Your last sentence is very apt! And the most realistic thing to do!

why can't the government be considerate for once. I am not supporting the 497,000 labour is putting out, but if the government put something considerate, labour will listen. What labour is doing is that they know that the government would present something smaller if they had presented a smaller figure. Let the government be serious and present a better figure. 60k is small compare to how they lavish money and there huge salary
You are right. Whenever FG increased their offer by a meagre N3000, labour reciprocates by reducing by N3000. Very funny. Let's see how it pans out.

Don't mind them. They should be more reasonable in their demands. Minimum wage increase above N60,000 will bring about inflation and destroy the economy. Before you know it, one cup of Garri will cost N500 or more.

Besides, it's only helping those employed by government and they are less than 5% of those in the working class. So, what happens to the rest of Nigerians? We need a more holistic approach.
