Re: NLC Mobilises Unions For Nationwide Strike by eteebanky1: 12:01pm On Jun 02
NLC's 464k is unrealistic

I just pity private and non government workers, na them go hear am

If government approves NLC's 464k, Bag of rice will be selling for 300k before next week and the overall inflation will be unbearable

70k is okay, NLC don't be Greedy

60% of government workers are just liabilities to the government, they feed fat on government money

They just go to office in the morning, on AC, talk till closing hour and head back home, some no dy go office self

Especially those ones working in government ministries

NLC is a confused lot. How can they advocate for a minimum wage that is unrealistic?
The FG should offer something sensible and NLC will shift ground ..

150k is sensible
Re: NLC Mobilises Unions For Nationwide Strike by Focusmind: 12:25pm On Jun 02
They shouldn't disrupt my scheduled flight o. Labour should go and sort themselves out with the FG and leave ordinary Nigerians out. The so called minimum wage will affect only the civil servants, who are not up to 2% of the working population in Nigeria. Millions of people are working for a "one man" business , and seriously underpaid. Same with Millions of artisans working for themselves, who are not going to benefit on the minimum wage negotiation. Nigeria is not like the West, where minimum wage is uniform, across both public and private organisations and even "one man" owned - businesses.

Between Govt and the Nigerian Labour Unions:
Why wouldn't it be good, because your -LP is partly an IPOB and the Agenda is -don't take Instructions from the present Govt and rendered them useless, just condemnation in anything they do,no matter how good their intentions!
-When you people were taking Instructions that you wanted to Celebrate Biafra Day - 5- Nigerian Soldiers -were murdered and you forgot that Social and Economic Development and Activities remains parlous in the East- the same Economy you want the Govt -the Local ,the State and Federal- to Pay your Salaries and Wages and Other Allowances from!
-It's unfortunate too that Tinubu Govt- has not come up with anything tangible for the Workers, for you ought to have been firmly on what the govt can Pay,especially when you know the NLC- Union head - Ajaero is also a Politician who believes in the opposition,so what is the Govt having in mind, while they failed to dialogue with the Workers, since the removal of Subsidies and the Floating of the Naira and Nigeria is Not Producing enough, even from Farmers side, yet ,the Governors were given More -Money and Palliatives in NBILLIONS ,while the Legislatures too smiles with New Multi Millions Vehicles and Billions Maintainance.
-Meanwhile-Food Prices like the Garri,Rice,Beans, etc, are becoming more expensive due to galloping- Inflation, while Workers Salary remains Fixed, since last year 2023 and govt cannot say they didn't see this Strike Coming?
-Govt ought to have decided on this Minimum -Wages,a long time ago because many people will eventually join this Strike on a Sympathy basis.
-The Problems Nigerians are having is the Current Labour Unions -by joining
Politics, instead of being NEUTRAL -in a Country that the Unions themselves have never Rendered their Own Accounts too,for Nigerians-to see,so why calling for Accountabilities and Transparency in Govt, for most of the Unions in Nigeria are self serving, not necessarily for the Masses!
-Can these Labour Unions, show the true Position of the Money and Dues, they have been receiving from Members and different Organisations for the Past 7-12 Years to Date,at least, and can NIGERIANS see the Statements of their Bank Accounts of the Union- for no Law says,Nigerians cannot see those Accounts and where the Money has been going to?
•For,he that comes to Equity must come with a Clean hands.

Is not by insult we are looking at their demand through a lense.

No economic theory justify wages to grow by that amount else u calling for further inflation

If that demand is meet believe me in 5 years time we will be on the table again to discuss money wage increase rather than talking about how to increase the real wage increase.
Inflation will rice again as prices of foods stuff will climb gradually to augment past differences.

Lastly I won't die broke.
Re: NLC Mobilises Unions For Nationwide Strike by Fiyin007: 2:07pm On Jun 02
The only thing government is going to succeed in doing is further dividing Nigerians by agreeing to pay an unrealistic minimum wage which is only going to benefit civil servants. They have not created an enabling environment for private coys to afford paying bogus minimum wage yet cost of goods would increase and the same private workers are expected to buy from the same market?? If NLC were truly serious they'd demand government to humble themselves admit their mistake of removing fuel subsidy and revert fuel price back to N162/Litre for the benefit of ALL NIGERIANS.

What labor care about is about money wage not real wage. It's like talking paracetamol for cancer symptoms.

If they meet this thier demand then consumers prices index will adjust to meet current prices between 5 to 10 years from now.

What we should look at is how to tackle the issue causing naira to lose value which are insecurity in the north, fuel import, bad roads, mismanagement of funds by state governors, poor support to farmers. If all this are tackled then naira will gain value within few years to come

How much is a bag of rice in your area?
Do you even pay rent?
Okay how about your medical expenses?

Long story short, how much do you spend on transportation to go to this very place you EARN a LIVING?

490K by labor is unrealistic and is 70k (according to you)

You don't run an economy by simple emotion rather by proven economic theory.

If you agree to their demand then by 10 years we will be on the table again to discuss same issue.
According to the quantity theory of money,
M*v=p*y. When you increase money supply through whatever means then it will result to higher prices.

Rather government must give priority to the fundamentals that trigger this problem which are fuel importation, government must partner with dangote to ensure they end oil import.
Government must ensure they also set up a framework to tackle insecurity, especially in the north so that people can go back to farm peacefully.
Farmers must be supported by all means,
Wastage by state governors must be checked.
If all this are done then real wage will increase rather than money wage

That's not the issue. If that 60/70k minimum is implemented, give it one year+ and it will be valueless again.

Do you know why? This govt is printing money like crazy and there's no coordinated efforts to export and bring in USD.

They are busy increasing interest rate to attract FPIs (hot money) which will eventually vanish akin to giving paracetamol to someone suffering malaria

This is what I have been explaning to them they keep insulting me.

What are those things that made naira to fall? If you don't tackle it then even though you increase minimum wages to 1million then In 10 years we willl be demanding they increase it to 20 million.

Raising it to 400k will sole a problem partially for a few government workers.
As such business men and woman, market sellers will slowly adjust their prices to get a fair share.
The government will go back to print more money to meet the new demand.
Private sectors will struggle to pay the minimum wage now most of them are struggling to even make profit.

Let's take it this way... What about tackling the root causes that makes naira to sink?

If you watch as insecurity increase, naira depreciated.
As fuel importation grows naira depreciate.
As Buhari government + tinubu government keeps borrowing naira depreciate.

If a sincere government gets it right with this variables then naira will appreciate

Ok, what about 300k?

I say this cos I know a lot of people..... Like plenty people whose lives have been dismantled cos of paucity of funds.

People cannot eat well.
People cannot do common medical checkup.

Anything less is enroute to poverty

Recently the government raised interest rate to 26% this will help take out funds Buhari government printed out.

Government must consult economist to ensure that it does not cause future depreciation of naira.

Labour only knows how to ask for wage increment but will never ask for end to fuel import, end to insecurity, end to farmers being killed in farms.
If all this alongside corruption among state government is not tackled the any increase will cause inflation as Labour will still come to ask for upward review of wages

Am an Msc student in a prestigious University in the UK and this area of discuss is my specialty.

No economic theory will support wage increase by 100% not alone 500%

If government should peg 400,000 as minimum wage then you should be ready to pay your maid, gate man, security guards, drivers etc 400,000 as salary.

Thought you said you are now in the uk, leave this issue to those it concerned the most. Let the FG deal with this MW first before talking real wage. What is the MW in the uk, what is inflation rate? If you dont have any sensible thing to say, embrace silence.

Oh they should pay them 400,000 they asked for?
Na stage 2 inflation you de call for. Have you studied the Expectational Augmented Philip curve theory?
Have you studied the wage wage price spiral theory?

Can the government cought out this money you called without going back to print more money?
If what labour is asking for Is implemented it's to cost 10 trillion monthly. Does Nigeria has that money to push out?

The government should look for ways to increase productivity, that is national output.
They should look for ways to tackle insecurity so that farmers can grow food.
They should look for ways out all federal roads in order to transport foods, goods from North to South.

They should look for ways to be transparent in oil production. Ensures they partner with dangote to bridge the gap that exist in oil import.

If all this are tackle alongside corruption mostly among state government then real wage will increase.

There is a difference between real wage n money wage. ... Search that in Internet to learn more.

Bros kindly permit me to tell you sharrap!

So the 160 million for SUVs per senator didn't cause inflation stage 2?

The 90 billion for Hajj didn't cause inflation stage 3?

The over bloated appointments and large number attending conferences didn't cause stage 4 inflation shey?

Its minimum wage for the Nigerian worker who's facing multiple hardships on all fronts caused by subsidy removals, Naira floating, high interest rates etc that will cause inflation?

Guy keep your augmented Phillips curve theory Abi Philomena curve theory one side abeg.

No be only you go do theories for school. The Reality is a different ball game
