Why can't the labour be serious for once?
It is the FG that needs to get real this time around.

The NLC will accept any decent amount around the N100k mark. Let the govt offer 80k or 90k as minimum wage and let's see if Labour would not be reasonable.

Mind you, the labour has indeed indicated a 6-digit figure.

Maybe Government should start selling fuel in dollars, since u want FG to start paying them in dollars.

High minimum wages will lead to inflation, nah d masses go suffer it.

If dem no go work, FG will still pay them. Since the pay is small, why are they replacing themselves with thier children??

Alot of qualify youths are outside looking for work.

Minimum wage is not for all private businesses in Nigeria. There are lot of exemptions in the private sector. So not all of them pay it. Private businesses with less than 25 staff in their payroll are exempted from paying.

You have called the 494k unrealistic. But what of government's 60k? Is that one realistic to you?

Which law gives private businesses with less than 25 staff the exemption not to pay minimum wage?

For some reasons, it is only on workers' salaries that FG complains of paucity of fund. After that N90 billion on religious pilgrimage, NLC will be idiotic not to extract as much as possible from the government.

Let's predict how this will end.

FG will negotiate with NLC and agree on a particular amount. NLC calls off strike. Then FG renegades. It is back to square one. Repeat.

The top agenda is to put their stooges in the next NLC and TUC leadership just like they did in NANS. Has anyone heard anything from NANS lately?

One year ago when he assumed office, naira was 650 to dollars, today it is over 1500 (more than double). So if you save for a year, your purchasing power is equal to someone taking 56% of you total sweat.

Not a bad idea to dump the naira that is killing people.

Yes, the pending inflation is giving me nightmares. Unionized civil servants would never give up their easy jobs (why most don't fit in the private sectors or business, especially after retirement).

They can leave work since it doesn't pay them again sir/ma. How many private can pay 60-120k for it common staff?? Which is the minimum wages at present.

They keep complaining the pay is small but keep replacing themselves with thier children.

Google the Nigerian minimum wage act of March 2019 . It's clearly stated there .

I think he means the labour can be resloute to witstand the governmentand be able to get a meaningful result.

The most heartless of a person called president of Nigeria in history.

At least, the poor singing his support now lack energy to shout again.

I just see a government that won't last any much longer just by natural intervention

Do you have a business? Can you pay your least worker N494k? How many private schools, hospitals, restaurants etc can pay a minimum wage of N494k?

Abia state is a Labour Party state. It is one of the state that is yet to fully implement the N30k minimum wage since 2019. How will Abia state pay a minimum wage of N494k? Make it make sense.

As of 2010 the minimum wage stood at about 115$ which translated to 18000 with an exchange rate of 150/$. If we maintain the same 115$ as minimum wage, with and exchange rate of 1400 it should translate to over 160000. I believe 150k should is enough for the new minimum wage.

Labour’s demand is unreasonable and unrealistic. It’s time for them to stop playing politics and make a sensible proposal. Anything above N100k is unrealistic.
Re: FG Rejects ₦‎494,000 Wage Demand, Warns Of ₦‎9.5 Trillion Economic Burden by viklegend(m): 5:09am On Jun 03
Nigerian earnings has increased in naira, I wonder why dey have refused to pay better, in 2010 with dollar rate at 150/$, a barell of oil sold at 80$ would amount to a measly 12000 naira yet minimum wage was 18000. Now in 2024 when a barrel sold for 80$ rakes in 112000 naira at current exchange rate the government still wants to pay far below. Where is the extra naira they make this time go to Repairing of aso rock villa and changing presidential suit??

I strongly believe that since the previous minimum
wage in 2010 stood at 115$ as minimum wage, that same value which translate to about 160000 naira should be employed.

The excess naira the government is making should go to Nigerian workers and not for buying cars for senators who already enjoy bloated salaries

Minimum wage under jonathan, #18000
Bag of rice under jonathan, #7000

Minimum wage under tinubu, #30000
Bag of rice under tinubu, #85000

Lets do the maths
Since bag of rice is constant, #7000 under jonathan is equivalent to #85000 under tinubu

To determine the value of jonathans minimum wage in tinubus era gives

18000/7000= 2.57143
Recall that every #7000 under jonathan is equivalent to #85000 under tinubu

: . 2.57143 x 85000 = #218,571

So nairalanders
If jonathan of PDP were in charge of nigeria today minimum wage will have been equivalent of #218,571

Labour should endeavour to peg their negotiation to #250000, to accomodate tinubus APC induced inflation
FIXED

TINUBUU vs JONATHAN challenge;
If clueless jonathan can pay it, then technocrat tinubu can pay it.
