/ I am surprised they are fighting the government. I thought the only solution is japa. Then the people turn around to wail about xenophobia. How do you expect respect from citizens who stay back to fight their government when all you do is run away from such fight in your country? Citizens stayed and challenged their government to make the place habitable. And you expect them to welcome cowards with open hands. / 1 Like |

In my humble opinion, I would have wanted Labour to insist on government cutting their cost of governance instead of this minimum wage thing. Even if the minimum wage becomes 500k+, which will be detrimental to the economy, it's just ludicrous that a senator earns N30million+ monthly in allowances. How on earth did we get here?? Can we ask that the minimum wage for Senators be N350k in total emoluments monthly plus other national benefits like free healthcare for their families in any hospital in the country, free accommodation in their local government, pensions, free bus rides in public transports ONLY, etc? Let's make governance unattractive to politicians, but enticing to technocrats who want to serve!! 3 Likes |

Benjamin4388: This is simple basic laws of life since time immemorial. A man eats what he sows, from the toil of your hands you shall eat. The real world does not care what the price of garri is in the market. What matters is what is the economic value of your abour or output? That is what determines what you are paid. I repeat for the umpteenth time, the average worker in Nigeria has an output of N150k a month. So you understand, a minimum wage worker under civil service structure is level 1, a graduate is level 4, a perm sec is level 16. So the average worker we are talking about is level 8, I.e a graduate with experience. Where then should a minimum wage worker fit it if a graduate with experience only has an economic output of N150k? These are facts not sentiment. What you people are suggesting is that the minimum wage worker should be subsidized for his inefficiencies and lack of productivity and we know what Al happens to subsidies in the end. Besides, where is the money to come from? You may not like my comments about religion but I am simply giving you one example why the output of the Nigerian worker is so low. 1 Like |
