I still do not understand why many Nigerians lie to themselves about the actual pay of political persons being high, when many entry level roles in the private corporations in this same country pay up to that and more than that in some instances.

I can never quit my private sector job to go earn all this chicken change in the public or political service that many will still hate you because they think it is this small salary that is making them to suffer.

Tackle the real financial wastes and there will be more to go round to have a living wage like this one for all government workers.

I think yes. A political appointment is for a definite, relatively short time. He should earn more than an equivalent or even senior civil servants.

Unlike him, a level 16 or 17 civil servant will retire on a pension for life. Well, that's if the wicked government gets round to paying.

In the UK and US, same thing applies. Political appointees often earn more than civil servants.

The level 17 has much more earned than the N400k. They also have termination benefits that a short term political appointee does not have. In fact, a mere review of the actual payslip will tell you otherwise that a level 17 earn more than that N400k.

Even in the private sector, I have been opportuned to employ short term consultants who were earning more than me on a salary that I determined for them based on what was obtainable in the industry, after careful consideration that they were to cater fully for themselves and families with that singular monthly salary.

Even within my team, I know some permanent staff are so wicked and shortsighted that they will never allow such consultants earn more than them.

In this same Nigeria that many are lamenting like poverty is the air everyone breathes, there are consultants who earn over $1000 everyday of work for contracts that could run into 3 or 5years.

I believe that grade is a political grade different from the regular grade 1 to 17.

A grade 1 at N360k annual suggest it is N30k per month.

Is that not the current minimum wage of N30k?

Is that amount not just the basic salary, without the bonuses and allowances?

Can we have the actual data that shows the allowances like housing, vacation, feeding etc.

It is the democracy system we inherited.

In USA for example, an appointed cabinet secretary could earn $226k annually while the highest paying public servant at the senior executive level could earn between $150k to $200k.

Politicians will find a way to always water the ground anywhere. To them, it is not pensionable and after 4/8 years, They won’t get shishi from the government so they try to factor that into it.

Most of them are guaranteed of earning this for at least 4-8 years...... and they get a severance allowance after every 4 years.

Do you remember what happened when Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was asked to serve as a Minister by the Obasanjo regime?

Professors earn around 350-450k currently. Depending on years of experience.

The civil service salary structure is very poor. Don't be deceived. Aside from few A-list agencies, most others just pay a fairly average salary. GL 12 step 3 on CONPSS (even with the recently introduced peculiar allowance and 25% increment) do not earn 170k monthly.

@the bolded, this is obtainable everywhere even USA. There was a period I saw the salary of my lecturers back then in school and an entry level software engineer at any fortune 50 companies earns more than a professor in the faculty. I mean a whole professor with years and years of experience.

There is no more pension for life. A lot of you are half-informed and run with whatever information you are given without verification. Since 2007, there are no more defined benefit scheme, everyone has been moved to contributory pension where PFAs manage your pension funds. They pay you for about 18-20 years after retirement and that's it. If you don't die before that time, you are on your own. Federal Government do not also pay gratuities any more. Do your research.

It is instructive to state that the monthly pension paid by the PFAs is 45% lesser than what FG pays to those on DBS (pre 2008 retirees) who enjoys the payment for life and also enjoys increment with every MW review.
