In USA for example, an appointed cabinet secretary could earn $226k annually while the highest paying public servant at the senior executive level could earn between $150k to $200k.

Politicians will find a way to always water the ground anywhere. To them, it is not pensionable and after 4/8 years, They won’t get shishi from the government so they try to factor that into it.

When I checked for Secretary of State is about $221k per annum.

From your analogy you can see that the difference between the secretary and civil servants salaries is just a little over $20k, here in Nigeria the difference is 100% or way more.

The only people or category I feel for are teachers and some medical professionals. However, you see, ministries, level 15 and above, sometimes earn their monthly salary illegitimately in just a few days.

it's not difficult to know people that have never smelt the civil service before (and that's not in anyway a bad thing - infact, I want to leave the civil service soonest).
Up until May 2023, there was no extra allowance added to that table. What you see there is what you get, even lesser after deduction of PAYE, pension, NHIS, NHF, sports and union dues.
In 2023, a peculiar allowance was introduced which is about 30% of your monthly salary. This helped to raise the monthly take home up a little. But trust me, it's still nothing to write home about. I got into the civil service with MSc 8 years ago and my starting salary was 51000 naira monthly. Yes. 51k. After 2019 MW wage, it rose to 59k. Despite the MW increase from 18000 to 30000, the consequential adjustment on my salary then was just about 8000.

It is not even average salary in ICT not to talk about American civil service.

That is a very top executive salary equivalent to working in senior roles with ExxonMobil or Total or NLNG in Nigeria.

So if the Trump regime was paying $175k to any political jobber, when a teacher or senior police chief in America is not even seeing $80k in a year, then you have only shown that political roles rake in more money well beyond minimum wage.

Only top law firms and technology firms will pay anything close to that for a very top brain. Nothing average salary about that amount.

That amount is 3years salary if talking about average pay for those doing well, while it is 2years salary for top earners below management cadre.

It's even lesser than 30k monthly when all statutory deductions are made. The good thing is that no one really starts on GL 1 anymore. Most start on GL 04 which is the entry level for SSCE.

However, I agree with you about people earning far better in the private sector. The only thing the civil service offers is job security and a bit of time flexibility, aside that it is not lucrative in terms of remuneration.

Personally, I have purposed to migrate to the private sector before the end of this year. I have a PhD and currently learning cybersecurity. The civil service is waste of one's career and youthful life.
