The management of the University of Ibadan has elevated Ekiti First Lady Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji to the rank of an Associate Professor in the Department of Education Management.

The promotion, according to the management of the institution, is backdated to 2022.

The First Lady is due for the rank of full fledged Professor in 2025.

Reacting to her promotion, Dr. Oyebanji, in a statement on Thursday by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, described the feat as a “milestone, though long awaited which marks a significant step in her academic journey.”

She said: “I am thrilled to announce that I have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor of Educational Management at the prestigious University of Ibadan, effective from 2022.

“This milestone, though long-awaited, marks a significant step in my academic journey. I am grateful for the support from my faculty, department, and the recognition from the University of Ibadan.

“A heartfelt thank you to my wonderful husband, His Excellency Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and my children for their support. I also dedicate this promotion to all the women of Ekiti State and beyond who inspire me every day.

“Onward to even greater achievements as I graciously await the announcement of my Professorship next year by God’s grace!”

Ekiti professors! The most ridiculous in the whole country. Southwest has made that revered position a mere joke. As them her line of research now or local and international publications that warrant such branding they will start foaming in the mouth. No wonder no one takes their professorship seriously. All they want to brag is: we have the highest number of professors in Nigeria. Imagine this woman sitting among Soyinka, Irueweka, Ashiegbu, and Ogbulogo as professors. Tueeh!

It's a normal practice there, nothing strange. Someone who has been SL for 7+ yrs with over 80+ publications..... Leave am, she try!

She is supposedly on leave since 2022.

Congratulations to the First Lady of Ekiti State.

The truth is that the most difficult and time consuming part of academics is the Ph.D because its' research & attendance based.

You need to be a brilliant person to earn a Ph.D.

Attaining Professorship is based on several considerations including politics !

A body of Professors in your field and the school assess the students academic contribution, your membership of relevant academic association, the number of Ph.D students you supervise, the feedback from your supervisor and most importantly how well you "manage relationship" with the awarding institutions (Politics).

For those who commented above it is as a result of politics, yes it's a factor and also your competence and academic achievements too. " Every human is a political animal".

Pastor Enoch Adeboye - General Overseer of RCCG was also awarded Professorship in UNILAG based on his contribution to both academic work and the society.

Congratulations, Mrs. Oyebanji (Ph.D) !

It’s in every country, even in the West, America inclusive. However, she might have merited the promotion according to the standards and criteria of the university; many such promotions are backdated because it takes time for the university senate to review the submitted qualifications and achievements.

Don't talk out of ignorance if you don't understand what lecturers promotions look like. Like a saying " if you don't publish you perish"

Is it by number of years now? Something is obviously wrong here. Firstly, it's being due two years back. Secondly, is she at work presently? Thirdly, a subtle blackmail for professorship.

Professor should be made on the basis academic output which should in some form of service so recognised.

This charade should stop.

Being the First Lady is a qualification?

What is the justification for the promotion? Anyways, in Nigeria, academic promotion is by years of service and not publications.
Re: UI Promotes Ekiti First Lady To Associate Professor by Houseontherock1: 5:38am On Jun 07
If she has the required number of papers and other requirements and she is due for promotion, will she be denied because her husband is a polithiefcian? Though we can't deny the possibility of the reviewers being lenient with their reports because of her connection and even the committee...but she must have had the basic requirements before being considered at all, even if she rushed to publish 30 papers in one year undecided
