Just head to church for Thanksgiving, because the Lord just saved you from one the most venomous snake in west Africa, that's the Mozambique spitting cobra, very lethal
How did the snake get to Nigeria all the way from Mozambique?

That's a very long journey.

I saw this snake today as I decided to follow a bush track in my estate instead of the normal road. Somehow I just want to avoid people as much as possible.
Please who knows the type? Is it venomous?
King Cobra

Correction, although I never saw it spit but those who saw it before I arrived said it did( could be a lie though)…but this particular type of cobra is endemic in west Africa.

Snakes are one of the most resourceful creatures to ever exist. They can move in silence, stay without food for months, and stay hidden for a long period without you ever noticing them. They travel long distances too.

You're wrong. That's not Naja Mozambica Their range do not extend to these parts. That snake is most likely a forest cobra.

Mozambique spitting cobra in Nigeria..... Too much television is a problem.
We also have the Gabon Viper in Nigeria. Not every animal in a habitat is indigenous

That is a forest cobra.

The first part is somehow black and white-lipped.

But if the neck is black, that will be a black neck spitting cobra.

The forest cobra is the answer.

Re: What Type Is This Snake I Marched To Death Today by Light78: 2:56pm On Jun 07
This is the spitting one. You can see the neck is black, but the one you killed was white-lipped

May be it's abundantly found in Mozambique or it was first discovered in Mozambique. Science has a way of naming different phenomena

It's better to avoid snakes than avoiding people Oga. This is one of the most wicked snakes on earth. Yoruba call it Agbadu. They are very aggressive and fast, very fast o. They can attack unprovoked, they can stand toe to toe with you if triggered.

This is actually small though but still, you cheat death o.

Àgbádú apọ́ngbọ̀n! Oh, those days in the rural parts of Abẹ́òkúta! A dangerously fast, black, long, and venomous snake! Op is fortunate.

Funny,do you even know why it's called the Mozambique spitting cobra?
yes I do, maybe I got the name wrong, but don't take me for a fool, there i are things I may know and you won't too, so if this is how you reply comments, then bad, someone on nairaland has once said he saw a black mamba and I corrected that they are only mostly found in south Africa, I didn't call that person ignorant because he just gained another information about snakes, learn not to call someone out vulgarly, you are matured
