Any Governor that is not ready to pay should vacate office
Re: Minimum Wage: Labour Knocks Governors For Rejecting ₦‎60,000 by FOLYKAZE(m): 5:15pm On Jun 08
What about resigning if the pay is too low?

These unproductive folks with six or more drivers assigned to a single car or four teachers assigned to a class and almost doing nothing at work. All they want is more money which will only add to economic woes. Your employer have indicated the amount they can pay, if they are not cool with it, they should all resign

There Indigens are somewhere on the internet now shouting TINUBU ...and how Hausa fulanis and Yorba used their Oil money to build Lagos and Abuja.

That is what their leaders told them to divert their attention from their poor leadership. They will them settle the pastors and Traditional rulers in the state to keep their mouth shot!

1. But they are not lying since much of the money running Abuja and equally shared to most equally non-viable states in Northern Nigeria comes majorly from the oil produced in that area. 🤔

2. More than half of the northern states in Nigeria are being propped up by money sourced from oil revenues. They too would do better to be shut down as well. When speaking of leaders, the problem cuts across the board. Nigerians should have tried to make 19 states work. The creation of more states is how we slowly slipped into this nightmare we have today. undecided

Truth be told Nigerians are the problem, they remain docile in the face of such arrogance. A former state governor who couldn't pay salary could use state funds to pay ahead for his children's school fees and is still Scott free!

Let's assume that today all state and federal workers are being paid N100k as the minimum wage. What will they do when the prices of essential commodity now multiplied by 10 like say the bag of rice jumps to N150k. Many foolish emergency economists will come here to lambast the government for the high prices of things? How can some people be so daft!

Minimum wage has not been changed since it was last changed in 2023, what has happened to prices of goods since that time in Nigeria? What continues to happen to this day to the price of goods? Na minimum wage cause Naira devaluation and the imminent inflation that followed? undecided

Some of them act as mini lord in their state

I still can't believe some governors were paying 18k as minimum wage until recently.

It is the State NLC in those states.... Probably they took bribe from the state govt.

As for me, I think NLC is not smart enough to get a good amount as the new minimum wage from the Government.

Propose to the Government the amount of 1 million as the new minimum wage, of course the Government will refuse such amount and then both parties can engage on pricing from the proposed amount to a meaningful amount. Let say if the Government price and price, last last they will at least settle somewhere around 100k, which will not be too bad.

A naive kid has spoken! The over 600 hundred thousand naira Labour proposed before is not reasonable to you. Armchair critics always think it's that easy

▶ Any amount less than $64.5 or Naira 94,893.69 is extreme poverty and should not even be considered of worth.
▶ Any amount less than $68 or Naira 102000, which is the former minimum wage adjusted for the approximate 340% depreciation of Naira since February 2023, is pretty much not a raise but adjustment to match the old minimum wage. I suspect the recent increase of 300% for the Judiciary was such an adjustment made against the Naira depreciation level. So this Naira 120,000 or $68 point needs to be where Labor begins its negotiating for a raise.
▶ At the federal level though, anything less than N250,000 should be rejected by federal workers. Given the padding senior workers at the federal level freely give themselves, I see no reason why some of that extra padding should not work it's way down and across the board to other Federal workers.
What is a poverty line?
A poverty line, also called a poverty threshold, is a set amount of income below which it becomes difficult, if not impossible, for people to afford essentials like food and shelter. Each country determines its poverty line by calculating the cost of meeting minimum needs. Households with incomes below this line are considered to be living in poverty.
The international poverty line serves as a standard for measuring extreme global poverty and was recently adjusted to $2.15 a day to reflect the rising cost of necessities and adjust for inflation. Since 1990, it has increased from $1 to $2.15, reflecting the rising cost of living.

“It is important to explain here that a national minimum wage is not synonymous with the different pay structures of different states. The national minimum wage is the lowest floor below which no employer is allowed to pay."

The statement above is where I have big issues with the leadership of NLC and TUC...over these years, what exactly have they done to employers that have not been paying NGN 30,000

What have they done to stop loads of private schools to stop paying teachers nonsense money, as low as NGN 15,000

What have they done to stop State Government, Local government fron paying their staffs less than NGN 30,000

Nigeria's employees are not FGN workers only..the regular stylist in the saloon, helpers that sweep people's compounds, gateman, various artisans, sales girl/boy, drivers, cook e.t.c are also Labours...who will fight for them?

How will NLC/TUC ensure these set of people get whatever is agreed upon

These are the conversations NLC/TUC will need to address.

I guess you know the government of Nigeria is a very difficult organisation to deal with. Also, it's not totally the work of the Organised Labour to make sure every employer pays the minimum wage, it actually is the prerogative of the Federal Government. Labour can negotiate for it but the Federal Government must oversee it after approving it. That's what obtains in sane countries..

These are very good questions that need to be addressed as well. But they can equally be addressed even as the adjustments to minimum wage are being made. The Government indeed has to be made to enforce the law even after the agreement is made. undecided

Really If NLC/TUC are mere pressure groups for negotiation ONLY and the Government agrees and not implement ..what happens?

You don't think NLC/TUC responsibilities as a pressure group goes beyond negotiations only ...but actually enforcement of whatever that is agreed

You are the daft one here. So it's better to keep on surviving on the old amount when the Sai inflation has rendered everyone poor. So the senators, the judiciary et al can have their own salaries and benefits increased but the workers salaries should not increased because of your mediocre thinking?
