Please Nigerians, I am certain you are much smarter than the comments that I am seeing.

It is your senators and House of Representatives members that can VOTE to restructure Nigeria into regional government.

The majority has to vote in favor of it if the bill ever makes it.

This means you have to find a way to convince the north to be in favor of regional government.

Goodluck.

These are the types of comments that made we open this thread.

Let me make this clear as possible. There will never be regional government if the North doesn’t think it’s in their interest.

And with the way Nigerian economy is today, I doubt the North will agree to it.

Southerners have to find a way to convince the north that they will be fine under regional government.

If not, we are wasting time with beer palour talk

Ignoramus!!! Who told you he wants to declare regional government?

He will just send it to the house as executive bills and they will vote.

If passed, 2/3 of other states are needed.

You overestimate the influence of the North. If the northern politicians had the interest of the North as their priority, why is the north more impoverished than the south? At the end of the day their politicians are just that: politicians. With personal interest first. Find a way to massage their personal interests and they'll sell off themselves like the typical business man

Yes the ruling class but the southern ruling class will easily bow to public pressure. The northern ruling class will use propaganda to misinform their people not to support the bill. We have seen this happen many times throughout Nigerian history.

I see your logic but the problem is that you are reasoning from a southern Nigerian perspective of politics.

The northern elites have a firm grip on their people unlike their southern counterparts. Look at how quiet northerners were throughout buharis disastrous administration.

Look at this through the eyes of the average northerner on the streets. Who do you think they will listen to? A southerner or southern politician who tells them that regionalism will be good for them in the long term or their northern politician who tells them that regionalism will take away money from the north.

restructuring is different from a mere constitutional amendment. Even lobbying has levels. Obasanjo with all his money couldn't get third term.

Restructuring requires months, if not years of constitutional conferences by ethnic representatives and other groups representing various interests. It is not a unilateral action.

Nigeria itself has gone deep in division that any "restructuring" is part of broader goal of gradual divorce.

Not only the national assembly but also 2/3 of state houses of assemblies.

Restructuring will be based on states not regions. SW wants to covertly corner Lagos hence shouting regionalism thats dead on arrival
