■Oh...it's the prerogative of the government to enforce minimum wage is being paid across board
Really If NLC/TUC are mere pressure groups for negotiation ONLY and the Government agrees and not implement ..what happens?
You don't think NLC/TUC responsibilities as a pressure group goes beyond negotiations only ...but actually enforcement of whatever that is agreed
Once the Law goes into effect, it becomes the job of the government, sadly, to enforce it. Individuals can come together as groups to sue the government in the case that it is not. NLC local factions can work in that capacity. But I don't believe the law goes in as an NLC law but rather a law to benefit individuals and as such the only right to fight that exists for NLC has to come from aggrieved individuals. undecided

Both the FG and the state governments are highly insensitive to the plights of poor Nigerian workers, because #62k and 60k as national minimum wage makes no sense at all.
Ajero's NLC is just too dull , why calling off the strikes when you are not sure of the sincerity and commitment of the government , during the negotiations ?
indeed special breeds of heartless humans are presently ruling Nigerians.

As for me, I think NLC is not smart enough to get a good amount as the new minimum wage from the Government.

Propose to the Government the amount of 1 million as the new minimum wage, of course the Government will refuse such amount and then both parties can engage on pricing from the proposed amount to a meaningful amount. Let say if the Government price and price, last last they will at least settle somewhere around 100k, which will not be too bad.

Let's assume that today all state and federal workers are being paid N100k as the minimum wage. What will they do when the prices of essential commodity now multiplied by 10 like say the bag of rice jumps to N150k. Many foolish emergency economists will come here to lambast the government for the high prices of things? How can some people be so daft!
They are not daft bro, trust me.
They know the economic implications of a humongous MW, but what do they care.

To them, the endpoint is the destruction of the economy/country, and if hiding behind MW will help achieve it, so be it.

Look at the clown below:
In one thread, he's saying 100k or everything scatter, in this thread he confessed that even the 60k sef na waec.

It's a political game.

Re: Minimum Wage: Labour Knocks Governors For Rejecting ₦‎60,000 by OgaRico(m): 7:31pm On Jun 08
Noted. I pray NLC win.

Kobojunkie:
▶ Any amount less than $64.5 or Naira 94,893.69 is extreme poverty and should not even be considered of worth.
▶ Any amount less than $68 or Naira 102000, which is the former minimum wage adjusted for the approximate 340% depreciation of Naira since February 2023, is pretty much not a raise but adjustment to match the old minimum wage. I suspect the recent increase of 300% for the Judiciary was such an adjustment made against the Naira depreciation level. So this Naira 120,000 or $68 point needs to be where Labor begins its negotiating for a raise.
▶ At the federal level though, anything less than N250,000 should be rejected by federal workers. Given the padding senior workers at the federal level freely give themselves, I see no reason why some of that extra padding should not work it's way down and across the board to other Federal workers.

“It is important to explain here that a national minimum wage is not synonymous with the different pay structures of different states. The national minimum wage is the lowest floor below which no employer is allowed to pay."

The statement above is where I have big issues with the leadership of NLC and TUC...over these years, what exactly have they done to employers that have not been paying NGN 30,000

What have they done to stop loads of private schools to stop paying teachers nonsense money, as low as NGN 15,000

What have they done to stop State Government, Local government fron paying their staffs less than NGN 30,000

Nigeria's employees are not FGN workers only..the regular stylist in the saloon, helpers that sweep people's compounds, gateman, various artisans, sales girl/boy, drivers, cook e.t.c are also Labours...who will fight for them?

How will NLC/TUC ensure these set of people get whatever is agreed upon

These are the conversations NLC/TUC will need to address.

That is a great observation you have there, this should be the optimum and paramount duties of the NLC/TUC. Not just to be canvassing for increment of minimum wage for government workers, without monitoring the implementation to other workers.

Your leaders have already given themselves increments to compensate for the hike caused by the Naira crisis and fuel costs. Do you think they would seriously work towards returning fuel to the amount they met it after that? Do you think that after that they would work in earnest towards bringing the Naira value back to where it was before all this began? Stop being ridiculous! undecided

That land is supposed to have become the Dubai of Nigeria or at least the Las Vegas of the East. But it remains one of the poorest places because it was created solely for the purpose of lining the pockets of the greedy corrupt leaders the people choose, much the same as is the case with most other States in Nigeria to date. The people should begin considering going back to a 19-state solution abeg! undecided

I guess you know the government of Nigeria is a very difficult organisation to deal with. Also, it's not totally the work of the Organised Labour to make sure every employer pays the minimum wage, it actually is the prerogative of the Federal Government. Labour can negotiate for it but the Federal Government must oversee it after approving it. That's what obtains in sane countries..
u want federal govt to control states or what and elected Gorvenors... Labour have role plus various states gorvenors have to look at companies In their states

Many workers out of selfish consideration do not realise that this would further heighten inflation and the common man on the street would bear the brunt.
