Not much when you consider that it has to be delivered fresh. Such a job ties you down to the banana tree and the tree must be disease free to avoid poisoning the meal being wrapped. That's small money over there considering the stress and value associated with fresh leaf wrapped food.

That's what south Indians (Tamil and Kerala) use for rice and curry plate at their parties and restaurants. It needs to be fresh like the ones in the picture below.

Actually, it depends on the location.. the reason why it seems (or is) expensive in Europe or North America is because of the cold weather over there.. .
Banana thrives on the tropics and cold weather or frost kills banana plant or sometimes makes them inactive...
And cuisines that demands banana leaves, always want them fresh...
Now getting these fresh leaves is now a hurdle!!!
Coz since banana plant (note my use of "Plant", and not "Tree", FOR BANANA IS NOT A TREE) barely manages to grow in cold regions, the leaves are very important to the plant....
So those leaves are quite hard to see...

Banana leaves for cooking moi moi wouldn't be a bad idea. It might have good health benefits.
Yes, I used it for moin moin in Thailand and it's just like the regular leaves, fantastic! The down side is that it's more difficult to wrap because of the shape and it tears easily from the lines if one is not very good with moin moin leaves undecided

If earthquake occurs in America or Japan and power goes off agbadorians will start to tell you that light also go off in in Japan or America,I don't want to be reminded of our suffering in nigeria, look at what they are using to convince gullible Nigerians that things are bad in western world,without some Nigerians in diaspora some families in nigeria won't be eating

That's not an excuse. That's the truth. You can't imagine the "value added" that's put into that leaves. The trimming, the thorough washing, the effort at delivering it same day as harvested and the neatly packaged. I will pay for all that any day, any time.

Thank you! Don't mind Nigerians... We're always quick to calculate money without considering the associated costs and required effort.

That's why so many Nigerians (incl. graduates) are quick to say they're ready to wash plates abroad without considering how expensive life could be in a foreign country...
