Last week, a Nigerian soldier, Captain J.O. Abalaka with army serial number N/15198 was kidnapped along the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road in Kogi State.

He had previously been serving at the 29 Battalion in Port Harcourt but had been ordered to report at another unit in the operational headquarters of the Maiduguri Command in Borno State.

This information about the kidnapping was relayed in an army signal that recounted the incident.

Abalaka was on his way to his new base and while driving in his Toyota Corolla with registration number LSR 22 AJ, some gunmen intercepted and abducted him and his dog.

Some other travellers in other vehicles were likewise stopped and kidnapped by the hoodlums.

However, in a rare display of courage and bravura, Abalaka jumped one of the gang members and forcefully collected his AK-47.

According to the signal, he subsequently engaged the other kidnap gang members and successfully set other victims free, together with his dog.

He reportedly recovered one locally fabricated Barretta pistol, one magazine and 5 pieces of 9mm ammunition.
