Igboland was a no go area for the colonist because of the power of Arochukwu. It was after the fall of Arochukwu in 1902 before they could penetrate. While western "civilization" spread over other regions before Igboland, the Igbos did like Japanese, they used the period when they were shut from external influence to cultivate the Native Intelligence. By the time western education finally entered, in few decades just before independence, Igbos have overtaken everybody.
