Microsoft has refuted rumors that it plans to shut down its Nigerian operations, following last month’s speculations that the tech giant was contemplating closing its Lagos innovation center due to concerns over the country’s business climate. The rumored shutdown was believed to potentially impact around 200 employees.

Olatomiwa Williams, Microsoft’s country manager for Nigeria, addressed these rumors in a meeting with the Nigerian minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy in Abuja. Mohammed Manga, the ministry’s director of information and public relations, briefed the press on the discussions between the minister and Microsoft representatives.

Manga conveyed that the managing director assured the minister of Microsoft’s dedication to its Nigerian operations, dispelling the recent speculations. Williams highlighted Microsoft’s eagerness to collaborate with the Nigerian government on shared interests such as cybersecurity and youth skills development.

Largely depends on what I'm buying. If na all those high risk new launches, I don't hold for long at all. Unfortunately, I've ended up fumbling some bags as a result.

But for relatively stable ones with low risk of "dying", I keep them on my watchlist and buy as they hit my target

A statement I was typing in a rush

Microsoft Nigeria is not closed, they closed some teams in Lagos not all, not even the major teams that have always been there

Microsoft ADC Africa Development Center based in Nigeria is closed

So only a particular arm of the company is closed right ?

But why can't Microsoft just issue a statement/press release to address the issue? This one that it is our minister's spokesperson that is reporting what was discussed at the meeting.

Our politicians and their appointees don't inspire confidence when they report outcomes of such closed door meetings, that was how Ajuri wrongly announced in September that it was agreed in the meeting between Tinubu and the UAE leader that Visa Ban has been lifted.

Microsoft is not govt so why do they need to explain to public? Is it every silly rumor that private organization reply to

The minister asked them and they responded

Shebi dem say today na the end. By next montg we can check their office at VI civic center and see if they are open

The problem is the guy who tweeted to farm engagement will not post a rejoinder but will just move on like nothing happened and post another fake news next week to hustle Elons giveaway

No be fight na. Which one be silly rumor again?

Private organizations from time to time usually address rumors that seem to portray them being financially challenged, shutting down or having regulatory issues. Just last week banks like Union Bank, Polaris , etc. were addressing rumors that suggested their licenses were about to be revoked like Heritage bank's. They didn't have to call it silly rumors before addressing it.

The same Microsoft can issue a statement tomorrow or in the coming days addressing the rumor.

I made a point that no be today Nigerian politicians and their appointees have been wrongly reporting outcomes of such meetings. It still happened recently. Ajuri and Onanuga dey post fake news steady sha.

Those banks have individuals that have deposits and will panic when they cannot withdraw because of the issue

Microsoft has assured the stakeholders which include staff, customers and govt that they are not closing down

But time will tell. It's not far, the tweet said this month end. Na just 19 days remain we will know of the person who tweeted is right

Unfortunately nothing happens to people for posting fake news

Venezuela is sabre-rattling about annexing Guyana, your fellow black country which is being defended by Brazil. Iran and Russia are parking troops in Venezuela

Dem go still find way to brainwash una that this is fight against West while invading your fellow black country to steal their oil lands. Meanwhile na Brazil (member of BRICS) wey dey defend Guyana. Confusionists.
