STATE HOUSE PRESS STATEMENT

PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS TOLARAM GROUP FOR REPOSING CONFIDENCE IN NIGERIA'S ECONOMY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Indonesian business conglomerate, the Tolaram Group, for believing in Nigeria and having absolute faith in her economy.

Tolaram, which partnered Nigeria to build the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the country’s first deep sea port, has acquired Diageo’s 58.02 per cent shareholding in Guinness Nigeria Plc.

According to an announcement at the Nigerian Exchange on Tuesday, Tolaram will also enter into long-term license and royalty agreements for the continued production of the Guinness products and its locally manufactured Diageo ready-to-drink and mainstream brands.

President Tinubu said Tolaram, by acquiring Diageo’s shares in Guinness, had shown that it has a long-term view of doing business in Nigeria.

Tolaram has been doing business in Nigeria in the last 50 years.

In choosing to expand its investment footprints in Nigeria, Tolaram has demonstrated strong faith and confidence in Nigeria's economy.

President Tinubu welcomes Tolaram to the beverage sector of Nigeria’s business landscape and hopes the group’s business will continue to flourish.

President Tinubu gives assurances to investors and Nigeria’s businesses, promising that his government will continue to make the operating environment more conducive and transparent.

He said that the multi-pronged reforms and interventions being implemented on the economic and financial fronts would deliver sustained growth and enduring profitability for investors.

It is kind of weird seeing as Indonesia the parent country of tolaram is a Muslim majority nation

Wow!

Religious pluralism! The north should learn from this

Alcohol is not banned in Indonesia

Na the staff go really feel am pass . Tolaram like typical Asian owned businesses will do everything to stay in business like u rightly posited .

I spoke earlier about Nigeria transitioning from a socialist economy to a capitalist economy.

This is one of the worst legacies of military rule. The delusion that being some sort of govt parastatal or govt affiliated agency entitles you to free electricity.

Different agencies and bodies are bullying discos and refusing to pay their energy bills.

It is bad enough that most discos are running on broken subsidues. But then you have to add the burden of aggressive delinquent customers.

The problem of power in Nigeria is not an engineering problem. It is a finance problem. You want to spend billions replacing old and decrepit infrastructure - that's fine. But how do you recoup your investment when you have customers who have been weaned on the delusion of cheap electricity?

That is why public services are not sustainable when givt itself believes they can enjoy it for free

Use electricity for free, fill their petrol tanks for free, fly Nigerian airways for free

Our military governors in Oyo state will send soldiers to Fashola farm settlement and ask them to bring the biggest bull that is used for mating others to Agodi for Suya that weekend. That was how Fashola farms almost closed down

Probably civilian governors are doing the same

Until public utilities are privatized most won't ever run profitably and sustainably

Cos if it's not profitable that means it's sustained by some form of subsidy

All this long talk can be sorted out if the Discos provide prepaid meter for their customers . Let the disco migrate the government agencies to prepaid meter and let’s see if they won’t find ways to recharge their meter to have light on.

Myself for example when I used to get crazy bills which I pay as much as I can and leave the rest . When they migrated me to prepaid meter , I cleared the balance on the crazy bill and I ended up not consuming up to 1/5 of the estimated billing even on heavy usage atimes.

Let the discos stop the nonsense of estimated billing , let the people pay for what they use via prepaid meter recharge and let’s see if the Discos can actually make profit.

I have zero pity for discos . I see them as Shylock business people who didn’t buy the discos because there was prospect of clean profit , but wanted to build on the old NEPA format of using estimated billing to inflate customers’ bills
