Definitely a good result for them. On paper, Nigeria away was their toughest match and they got a point out of it. We need three points when we meet them in Jozi.
I doubt this will happen

My diagnosis is that we have been mentally colonized with football
What happened with Music has to happen with football
When we were kids people travelled from Lagos to Ibadan Benin following stationary stores
Now young people know about the premiership players more than their family members
It is inferiority complex
Players who are made in Nigeria have a ruggedness that Iwobi cannot have.
The defenders technically are embarrassing.
Honestly I haven't seen any player as good as Oliseh since he left
Let us NEVER forget
That 1994 team was ranked NUMBER 6 in the world
It was Westerhof that facilitated their moves to Europe after he arrived in 1989
They were all home based
Again Keshi won with home based defeating Drogba,You're and others in the best Ivory coast team
We must start from the basics
Forget about winning but build a home grown team

Stop living in the past move on

Westerhoff and the likes have moved on

You think if you’re not technically acute and comfortable on the ball a top team will sign you keep playing catch up

You say epl has molded and inferiority complex on us

Man you better buckled this ain’t 1994

Every team is physically as strong as Nigeria if not better physicality won’t win you jack sh|t

Ask our Npfl teams why no champions league

Instead of finding a way to integrate the white man style of play into our structure

You’re talking about dead people 1994 Omo I’m dead 😵

Call the 1994 to come play today na

When was the last time these current players came from behind and clinched a win ? The problem is the current players is beyond physical but mental and psychological

if everyone adapts and does the same thing who will win?

Those are just words they have no meaning
We are not good enough today and so we must plan for the future

The most important thing is not international tournaments only one team can win but a Football economy that creates jobs .
That is more important than winning a tournament that always has elements of luck
So the Premier league is bigger than the leagues in Spain Brazil Argentina or France

How is their National team doing?

So that is the basic
Develop a league that is watchable by Nigerians.
If that happens the National team will follow suit
Man United is over 100years old
Let us start somewhere
The same feeling a gambler has on an unrealistic bet is what Nigerians have when watching the Super Eagles. They are poor. Bitter truth
We need to end wishful thinking

Football is not won by So called " better players "

It is set up

Now what is set up?

You are going for world cup qualifiers and do not appoint a coach.
You allow the previous coach's contract to lapse two games into the campaign before appointing a coach in the middle of the campaign after two shameful draws
Finidi took two friendly games . Was he provided with assistants or resources? No he was alone
During those friendlies did the players all turn up?
Even now will be be allowed the same assistants that Peseiro had. Learn to was not doing coaching, tactics ,drills etc by himself. He brought his people and even Finidi was part of that

Finidi is just there as the face of the person Nigerians can vent against you need to look deeper

If you want to blame a coach for a failed qualifiers
Appoint him from the beginning and provide his needs

Which serious team is appointing a coach at this stage?

Finidi is not the problem
Look deeper at the NFF
Do not forget Peseiro drew against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
It is not apparent that he would have done any better.

The issue with Nigerian football is not sort term
Qualifying for World Cup in 2026 is irrelevant to me

The focus should be on getting the right set up for the future
Oh, NFF is incompetent as shit no doubt. They are foolish for appointing downgrade after downgrade since Rohr. No one is denying that.
I'm not a fan for Peseiro too.

It's over. SA is locking in and Benin will get a W down the line against Lesotho, Zim or Rwanda.

All Finidi had to do was clinch a W against Benin to keep us alive and he botched it.

It's not even about that. It's all out of our hands now. We can win all of our next matches and still not be guaranteed a ticket to the Mundial - maybe we can clinch the 2nd place playoff spot....MAYBE.

Clinching automatic berth is completely out of our hands. But, we have a good chance to qualify via playoffs if we win the next round of games.

All we need to do is to rejig the technical team ,invite serious players and we are good to go

We have been so unlucky! Awoniyi missed an open net against Lesotho. Likewise, Moffi missed a 92nd minutes 1v1 against SA. Today we conceded from a long ball and corner kick. lol! God of football is not on our side.

Ekong, Simon, Osimhen, Aina, and Onyeka. Half of a team starting 10 at AFCON are missing.

Look at the bench who were available? Fisayo injured, an unfit Boniface, and Onyeka.

We need to support Finidi! What would a foreign coach do better?
We need all our players back and fit!

We will win our remaining matches and qualify for the World Cup. Keep the faith.

Are you saying the opponents had better player than Nigeria? How many times did our two point men struggle for the same ball instead of one running behind in anticipation of a drop ball? That is a pointer that there was no pattern. They just assembled the team and let them play as they like.

This is a group where normally Nigeria should qualify with a game or two to spare but here are we today almost rock bottom...

I feel for some of the players who might never get the chance to play in the world cup in their prime.

NFF's interest stems more from the largesse from FIFA for qualification.

We just need to win all our matches, because i don't see South Africa going six matches unbeaten, even Rwanda and Benin don't have the mental strength to do that it's never over until is over.

Finidi should invite the old guards our back line lack experience.

Omo if someone woke me up and told me the Super Eagles of Nigeria are dragging second to last position with Zimbabwe in an expanded world cup group that has teams like Lesotho, Rwanda, and Benin republic...I would have slapped the person for such insult and gone back to sleep thinking it was all a dream. But here we are, this is our reality in 2024.

Honestly this calls for an emergency situation in our football, Tinubu has to get involved and implement some tough decisions right now before it gets worse. Left for me, i no send person papa so I'm a firm advocate of overhauling 80% of this team, call up any fringe player(s) out there who will give his word and bond to fight till the last to salvage our world cup hopes, then such players should be made national heroes. I'm all for calling back or even begging veteran players like Victor Moses, Balogun, Ighalo and any other active player to come back and save us in our remaining games. These current set of guys apart from Osimhen and Ekong just don't have that rugged Naija never-say-never in them, these ones are IG models and banger boys on Twitter.

All hands must be on deck to make sure we win our remaining games and at least make the playoffs where we can decide our fate. NFF must send their best delegates to beg our veteran players who have retired to come back and make history for themselves! We are in a football crisis right now.

Dude looks at the ballers England is producing now . They have ditched kick and rush, blood and guts long ball.

Look at the English players now you talk about them all the time.

That's two decades of investment in training emphasis on technical ability, skill and Athleticism etc

Time to get a manager that can harness all these efforts and watch England smoke quality teams with ease.

Very tight..
Even if we win all our games, we still need other results to go our way ...

But we should do our part and win our remaining matches
Warrior mentality is needed
Zero room for errors or mistakes

We must become that resolved and put together a Man City-esque end of season winning run..
Then hope other teams drop points
Anything other than that, were out

We put ourselves in this situation unfortunately

Nigeria will not qualify. Stop this false hope. Will all the teams go to sleep like Nigeria? On a good pitch you can't play, is it on artificial turf you will play well?

Morocco deh use Congo statpad. Morocco leading by 6 goals to NIL. cool

Unfortunately while we were in deep sleep corruption, mediocrity, godfatherism, tribalism, favouritism, nepotism, ineptitude, incompetence took over our NFA now NFF.

We must realise that while we were in a deep comotose sleep other nations , were wide awake building up their football ⚽ development. Andbsime have left us behind or are now able to compete.

Top level entertainment football is still being played at the highest levels.of football ⚽ just not by us sadly and UNFORTUNATELY.

Joebie:
Very true. Think Senegal.

Our stupidity will always come back to bite us. Make we continue the Owambe and tribalism

If there was corruption, godfatherism, tribalism, favouritism, nepotism then Finidi would have never gotten the S.E job it will be Ndubuisi Egbo that would have gotten the job..

if there was tribalism then the N.F.F will be filled with mainly Igbos, Yorubas and Hausas

if there was tribalism then the S.E would have topped the group because the Igbos, Yorubas would have done everything to ensure their foreign born players are capped.. how would Eze, Tella be invited and not capped that is madness..

if there was tribalism then the S.E would have a playing pattern because most of the players will come from one ethnic nation and would understand each other better the same way the Catalans helped Spain win the Euros and World Cup and created a playing pattern that the whole of Spain has adopted and integrated if it was Nigeria another ethnic nation would have rubbished and talked down on the pattern..

if there was tribalism then the S.E would play as a unit because most of them will come from the same academy..

the only way S.E can do well is for both government and private sector to invest in training facilities... that's the way France gets people from different cultures to blend and play well and they also maintain the Coach Deschamps that took them to finals...

You cannot get people from different cultures who don't train together often and don't have a playing and coaching pattern to dominate games they will have to play Mourinho or Simeone pattern of football..

If I pick a team based on corruption, godfatherism, tribalism, favouritism, nepotism and with foreign born players then my starting 11 will be:

Karim Adeyemi as LSS
Elijah Adebayo or Osimhen as CF
Lookman as CAM/SS
Saka as RW/RSS ( if he wasn't capped by england ) or Amoo regardless of his issues.
Onyedika as CM
Tijani or Onyeka as DM
Osho or Udogie as LB
Alaba as CB
Akanji or Ekong as CB
Ola Aina as RB
Okoye as GK

What do you mean an automatic berth is out of our hands? If we win our remaining 6 games there’s a chance to top the group.

We should focus on that alone. Playoffs is a long thing. First you have to win two legs to be the CAF representative. Then you have an inter confederation playoff as well before qualifying for the WC.

Let’s focus on what we have infront of us.
