The Citizens Awareness Against Corruption And Social Vices Initiative (CAACASVI), a rights group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

According to CAACASVI, this call aligns with the federal government’s appraisal of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in conjunction with the activities marking the administration’s first year in office, aiming to gauge its performance.

The group, which focuses on fighting corruption and promoting transparency in public spaces, made this appeal following repeated allegations against the NUPRC’s operations under Gbenga Komolafe by concerned Nigerians.

In a press statement signed by Comrade Danesi Momoh, Dr. Abdulquadir Y. Lawal, and Amb. Olukolade Akindele—head of publicity, Director of Research & Documentation, and Director of Mobilisation & Logistics for CAACASVI respectively—the group condemned the alleged corruption within NUPRC and urged the President to act swiftly to reform the commission.

The release stated, in part: “As an agency that monitors the oil and gas industry to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, and oversees the safety and other regulations related to the exportation and importation of petroleum products into the country, the enormity of the commission's responsibilities is clear and its strategic importance to the economy cannot be over-emphasized.”
