The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday, said Nigeria enjoys cheaper electricity tariffs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Adelabu disclosed this in Abuja at a public hearing organized by the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Power, National Planning, and Delegated Legislation.

He also disclosed that the introduction of band A with a higher tariff reduced electricity subsidies to N1 trillion from about N3 trillion.

“We are still about the cheapest, even in sub-Saharan, in spite of the tariff. Our neighboring countries pay higher. So the price isn’t comparable.

“Band A is cheaper compared to other sources of generating power. It is almost 50 per cent cheaper to connect to band A of the national grid than to run on fuel and diesel. So when we complain about the higher tariff, it is cheaper for any business to pay for a grid connection than to individually generate power,”
he said.

Always looking for reasons to justify the increasing hardship Nigerians are being subjected to, in spite of the Country being blessed with abundant resources.

I don't even have any issue with the increase as long as there will be 247 electricity because no matter what it will be cheaper than running on fuel or diesel.

But the issue is,if I am to pay for high tariff, I won't be the one to fix a faulty transformer or buy cables or buy transformer or all the nonesense communities do.

I pay

You provide good and better service then we are cool

But you not providing better service and asking me to pay is Rubbish

Well, in facts, everything good cost so much money, but what is required of the leadership and government is to put people in place to be able to afford those expensive things. Total socialism is hard for such a poor country. Simple, but the leaders default.

Of course it is. Cause when compared currency to currency, our currency is the worst performing in the sub-saharan!!

Not even to mention that their quality of service is greater compared to ours.

This man should just do his job. Isn't it a shame that Benin Republic enjoys 24hours light and Nigeria do not??!!

This guy is one of the most foolish members of the executive. If incompetence has another name, I will surely give it to him. How much is the earning capacity of Nigerian citizens compared to sub sahara region u are talking about. Minimum wage is pegged at 30k and u want someone to pay 2k per day on electricity alone. This guy is just a fool.

This is nonsense talk na.
How much was diesel before?
Was it not sold for 200 naira?

How much was petrol before too?

What made the prices of fuel increase?

Now u cannot buy fuel, and u cannot afford electricity.

He just exposed their devious plans.

If electricity is expensive, people will try to use generators...... But alas! Fuel is also expensive...,... A leeway for dangote to cash out!

It's well.

They are always quick to point out what Nigeria is lowest in...VAT, tarrif etc.. but they won't compare Nigerians' salaries with others..

The leaders create so much imbalance in the system on a daily basis.
