AN ILLEGAL NIGERIAN NATIONAL SENTENCED TO FOUR LIFE AND 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

The Pretoria High Court sentenced a Nigerian national, Jude Ikenna Ijegulu (34), from Centurion to two life terms for two counts of human trafficking, two life terms for two counts of rape, six years direct imprisonment for two counts of keeping a brothel, ten years direct imprisonment for using services of a victim of trafficking and two years direct imprisonment for being illegal in the country.

The court ordered that his name be added to the National Register of Sexual Offenders.

Ijegulu was running a brothel with his partner Botes in Centurion when he fetched a 26-year-old complainant in the matter from Rustenburg, where she was held captive and supplied with drugs by unknown Nigerian nationals.

On their way to the brothel, Ijegulu stopped at a friend’s house near his brothel, when they arrived at the house, Ijegulu followed the complainant to the bathroom where he raped her.

In a separate incident, Ijegulu bought a second complainant in the matter who was 22 years old at the time from another Nigerian national McDonald in Rustenburg and also took her to the brothel under the impression that she would be working as a housekeeper.

Both complainants were held captive between November 2016, to September 2017. During that time, the two were raped, supplied with drugs, physically and sexually assaulted by Ijegulu. Botes and Ijegulu also instructed the victims to render sexual services to clients. On 18 September 2017 while Ijegulu was sleeping the two victims escaped from the brothel. After their escape, they contacted an NGO which provides shelter for trafficked persons.

The NGO fetched the two women from where they were hiding and assisted them with shelter. Later the women reported the matter to the police. On 16 July 2018, Ijegulu was arrested by police after he was lured into meeting up with one of the victims in Centurion.

A month later on 18 August 2018, Botes was arrested at a property Ijegulu was renting also in Centurion after an informant provided the address to the police. In court, both Ijegulu and Botes pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against them.

Through his legal representative, Ijegulu asked the court not to impose the prescribed minimum sentences on the charges preferred against him because he is a first offender, and the victims were in a homely environment in his house. He further added that the victims were already addicted to drugs and that the court should consider that he has been in custody since his arrest in 2018. Furthermore, Botes also asked the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence on the charges preferred against her and said she committed the offences because she was influenced and controlled by Ijegulu because of her drug addiction and trauma. However, a team of prosecutors Advocate Adina Van Deventer and Advocate Alicia Ross, asked the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence in respect of the two accused, because they showed no remorse for their actions. They further argued that Ijegulu fed the two women drugs for him to control them and for them to comply with his orders. Furthermore, the complainants did not have a choice when it came to having sex with him as he was the master of the house. In respect of Botes the two prosecutors further argued that Botes was the “wife” of Ijegulu and took the money that they earned from running the brothel.

Great one from South Africa.

Love it when punishments fall upon criminals like July rain.

As if the 4 LIFE IMPRISONMENTS were not enough, they hammered Jude with another 18-year BONUS jail term.

Love it!

His life is over. Assuming the life sentences have tariffs, he will still be locked up for 20 or more years unless all sentences are to run concurrently.

He fully deserves that. Go to other people's land to be running very evil, heartless and inhuman crimes yet his 'success' abroad will be hailed at home as "developer" bravery and "superior business acumen" of his ethnic group.

Furthermore his kinsmen will use the 'success' of scum like this chap, and many like him, to gaslight others they claim are "cowards who cannot travel and dominate".

We see how this mugu was "dominating" the "cowardly and unambitious" South Africans na.

Abeg make I no talk bro. Suffice to say Yorubas need regional autonomy badly asap so we can shape the SW region in our image and keep out so many bad eggs Nigeria is full of today.

No Nigerian here is supporting him. We are all mad at him for disgracing us publicly but you don't see that, do you? To you every Nigerian is a criminal.

Hate is a basic instinct. It is very easy to hate a group of people because it doesn't require much brain power to hate. It takes an intelligent person to rise above hate.

It is not what we do best. Yes, some Nigerians are criminals but which nation does not have criminals?

Nigerians are hardworking and resourceful. Crime sells, bad news sells so we always hear the bad news.

South Africans don't export criminals to Nigeria, my friend, that's a huge distinction. Is it too much to ask that Nigerians also behave while they're here?

You know there's a reality TV show here in SA where they go nabbing drug dealers and 98% of those caught are Nigerians. what perception do you think it's created? South Africa has immigrants from all over the continent but the ones always standing out due to bad behavior are Zimbabweans and Nigerians..why's that?

I really pity Dem Dem.

All their women deprive them of sex so they can only get it from rape.

Their women desperately chase Yoruba guys and its only the leftovers with plenty mileage that Dem Dem will now wife with 39 page bride price list.

What a pity undecided

You people's feelings are valid. Nobody will say otherwise. It is not too much to ask migrants to be law abiding.

And when one of these migrants commits a crime, you deal with that person not the group. The behaviour of one person is not proof that everyone is a criminal. Like I said earlier, it is very easy to hate a group of people.

Now as for the reality TV show, I don't have enough information to comment on that but I know that majority of Nigerians in your country just want to work and make money. I personally have a few relatives abroad (none in SA) and all of them just want to work.

Nigerians were crying xenophobia not because you people punished the criminals but because of the extreme hate directed at a group of people just because of the sins of a few.

We are not all criminals.

Nobody said you're all criminals.. but a significant number of you are criminals....enough to make Airport officials wary of you.. when someone from The Gambia is caught doing something illegal in South Africa, it is an isolated incident..but when a Nigerian is caught it's the norm.... see where I'm going with this?

It's a pity that South Africans don't punish Dem Dem appropriately.

The police in South East Asia empty their accounts at gunpoint and then make them fly out of skyscrapers without parachute. cheesy

That parallelogramhead go come flat well well grin

Because we don't a lot of good things going on to balance the bad news coming out of the country.

South Africa has the highest kidnapping and carjacking rates in Africa but because South Africa has a lot of good things going on in the country, the bad news is somewhat overshadowed.

Nigeria has nothing like that. It's just one bad news after the other.

Hopefully things change soon, so that our people can come back home to where they are valued.

I do see where you are going. Like I said earlier, your feelings are valid.

Now I don't have statistics to prove it but I know that if you check the figures, the average Nigerian in your country is law-abiding. Some Nigerians are criminals no doubt but by far the greatest number of them just want to work.

Nigerians are one of the most educated immigrant group in the US. They earn above the national average there. We have a lot of doctors and nurses in the UK's NHS. The story is the same in Canada. Nigerians in diaspora are doing wonders wherever they find themselves.

Your media is only showing you our bad side. I don't blame them after all we are strangers in your land.

I know I can't change the way you see us, you already have a dim view of us.

Rise above hate
