Names of fleeing Niger inmates released

In a bid to expedite the recapture of escaped prisoners, the Nigerian Correctional Service has released the database of inmates who fled from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The escape, which has raised significant security concerns, prompted immediate action from the NCoS.

The released database includes detailed information about the inmates, aimed at aiding law enforcement and the public in identifying and locating the fugitives.

A total of 119 inmates escaped from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre, Niger State on April 24, 2024.

The incident, triggered by a relentless downpour that caused significant damage to the facility, resulted in a breach of the perimeter fence, allowing inmates to escape.

While ten inmates were re-apprehended on April 25, three more were captured later that same day.

On June 6, 2024, the NCoS Spokesperson, Abubakar Umar who spoke at a joint press briefing of the security, defence and response agencies, at the defence headquarters in Abuja noted that 23 escapees had been recaptured so far.

Umar also assured the public of the service’s commitment to releasing the pictures of the fleeing inmates to aid in their identification and capture.

“I want to say hear that there is a concerted effort by the service to recapture fleeing inmates. I want to put on record that we have been able to recapture 23 escapes, so far.

“I want to also assure you that we are working hard to release the pictures of the fleeing inmates.”

However, as of Saturday afternoon, June 15, 2024, checks by our correspondent via the website of NCoS revealed that the service has published the details of only 18 out of the 96 fleeing inmates.

The names of the fleeing inmates published include; Ogbonna Kingsley, Auwal Mohammed, Mustapha Ibrahim, Suleiman Sani, Raphael Kingsley, Abdullahi Babangida, Idris Bashir, Umar Mustapha, and Ayuba Obidience.

Others include; Lamido Gambo, Garba Fidelis, Mohammed Jibrin, Sylvester Allison, Albert Israel, Edoga Okwudili, Olaiya Stephen, Audo Usman and Ibrahim Aminu.

Nigeria is rotten.

It took the prison management more than a month to publish some of the names. And the management has published only 18 names. What a shame!

Only 13 out of 119 have been re-apprehended.
119-13=106.

Why publish only 18 names out of 106 names? So, you don't know the remaining 88 names? Does it mean you imprison some individuals without ascertaining their identities? Or, does it mean you falsified the number of the escaped inmates?

Bigots are already using the 18 names to form opinions about the tribe they hate. If not that common sense is not common in Nigeria, the management of the prison will not be shameless enough to publish only 18 names.

After one month? The released fleeing inmate would have committed worse crimes, especially to those who had them thrown in jail. Some of them would have left the state for neighbouring other state. I can also promise you that some persons became millionaires as a result of what they claimed rain destroyed. May God expose the enemies of the country so that they will continue to gnash their teeth after. Amen

From Fran pan to fire. Many of those escapee will still be arrested then their problem start all over again. What are obidients looking for in Niger state for God sake. They are born to make it by all means, even if it takes to engage in dubious acts that will automatically send them to jail.

Our brothers from the poverty capital of the south will always have 30% of prisoners, that of Jos was even worse, did they like crime and criminality so such, they even leave Nigeria to robb in US, India, Dubai, etc. later, they will start blaming Tinubu for the unpalatable image of Nigerians abroad, xenophobia in South Africa, because of them, ban in United Arab Emirates because of them..

This country...

One fundamental and very key thing that is lacking at various levels of governance in this country and without which, good planning and development will remain very far from us is DATA.

We don't have data for anything, where they are available, they are cooked, inaccurate and archaic.

Just look at this report....as simple as Names of escaped prisoners, NCS cannot provide accurate details of escaped prisoners..

You why Many are just unjustly jailed, kept behind the wall by the rich and powerful...some didn't pass through correct procedures of jailing...so, no accurate DATA!!!

This is not peculiar to NSC only, as of today, we don't know the exact population of Nigerians...and if at all the government will use data, you will see them quoting United Nations and other organisations...when we have Bureau of Statistics, Population commission and other agencies where people are just earning salaries and no output!!!

Nigeria

This country is a joke.

Honestly.

And if you're still hoping that thugs would get better, you're in for a long heartbreak.

Names that should have been published within 30 minutes.

Mount a roadblock in every 5 minutes driving distance within a 100 mile radius.

2 helis hovering round that 30 mile radius with snippers on the look for any shady movement.

Then tap into the phone lines of their family and frequently called friends

Nigeria needs to be recolonized...the country has retrogressed. With order, no planning, no figure, no data.

Olaiya Stephen is Zulu?

Don't celebrate so quick, out of 119 names, only about 20 or less names were mentioned here.

Nigeria is a funny place, look at the way the intentionally and strategically placed the first name to create an impression (wrong) in the mind of the readers about a people, as if they are the majority in that place.
