Prominent political leaders have called for greater unity, cooperation, and harmony between the Igbo and Yoruba in Lagos State.

They urged the two major ethnic groups to avoid pettiness and political bitterness but focus on how to form a common front. The leaders, while emphasising mutual respect, harped on the need for collaboration and understanding across ethnic lines.

The call was made recently when a socio-political group, Eminent Senators Club of Nigeria (ESC), hosted serving lawmakers of the National Assembly (NASS), political leaders of thought and captains of industry, in a banquet organised to honour politicians and federal lawmakers, Osita Izunaso, Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District.

The ceremony brought together leaders and representatives from both ethnic groups to explore the avenue for increased collaboration and mutual benefit. Political leaders in attendance included Tokunbo Abiru, Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Musiliu Obanikoro, former Senator for Lagos Central, and Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Izunaso, while appreciating members of the ESC for the banquet held in his honour, urged Ndigbo to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I feel great that my people in Lagos have honoured me. This gesture will spur me to do more particularly now that we have a listening President in Bola Tinubu, who is working very well with the NASS to ensure that democracy dividends get to the people. That is the quality of the President many Nigerians don’t know about.

“We want Igbos to live in peace with the people of Lagos, and we want Nigerians to feel at home in any part of Nigeria. Because as we say in our anthem, ‘Though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand’, so we want to bequeath on our children a country that has no stain,” he said.

Not after 2023 and the current campaign by Peter Obi and his supporters bring down President Tinubu’s administration. We used to think we are brothers but 2023 opened our eyes to the fact that we’ve been sleeping with fire on our roof in the south west. We are never going to lose guard again politically.

First of all, before the campaign, why did many yorubas threatening the igbos if they don't want to vote for TINUBU, all hell will break loose?
Why did you people attack anything Igbo during the elections. Because of heresay? Did we inflict damage on yorubas through vandalism? Did we destroy your property?
We will never reallign with any south west candidate politically.

The mutual love between us and yorubas is dead. Period . I hope this extend to these nonsense intertribal marriage, business dealings and other things.

Socially and economically - Yoruba and Igbo have been living and doing business together with love and harmony from time immemorial, forget about aggressive nature of Obidients online, majority of them don't exhibit the same behaviour offline.

Politically - I don't think Yoruba and Igbo can peacefully work together. Both blocs has proved to demonstrates absolute different political ideologies and approaches right from inception.

Exactly. The next meeting should be held in the remnant of Landmark's property near the beach. They should equally bring Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate in chains to the meeting as a keynote speaker to speak on that unity. I'll also be there to record the meeting for future purpose.

Olodo ni e. Olodo. When the Oba of Lagos told Igbos in 2015 that any Igbo that doesn't vote for Ambode he will throw him into the lagoon,I guess that was in 2023 too? Answer naa.

Nobody has said such to Yoruba's living elsewhere. Two Yoruba Men will be contesting it is Igbo people you will be attacking and when they respond with words you will be getting angry.

Yet on election period you will send your thugs to go to Igbo areas and start beating them up just because they want to VOTE.

Something that is not done to Yoruba's elsewhere. But when it comes to Fulani terrorists killing and raping our people,we won't see you cowards showing your face, you will go and hide your faces in shame

NOT NECESSARY.

We are NOT interested.

Let Igbos face their region and mind their business while Yorubas do the same.

My brother that is not how life works o! In politics, we live for the moment! If Tinubu is going to restructure the federation.......then Igbos should align with him at least momentarily!! With state police...we can curb the activity of violent herdsmen........talk less of fiscal autonomy! Let us pick the oranges on the ground before clambering up the tree for the ones hanging up the branches!!

We don’t want any brotherhood with people who hate us. We’ve never attempted to take over their land in any way but they’ve been plotting to take over Yoruba land politically since the time of Azikiwe. We can no longer pretend about it again.

There is a reason why right wing politicians are taking over everywhere in Europe and America. Liberalism is dead. Conservatism and self protection is the new ideal. We will protect our land at all cost from migrants and opportunists.

Please which land did the Igbos forcefully take away from Yorubas?

So the lands the Fulanis have forcefully taken from Yorubas is not of concern to you?

Fulanis are busy killing and massacring your people even killing your Obas and taking over Yoruba lands but Igbos are your problem who have never done such to you?

And you are not clamoring for fight against the Fulanis...

Something is definitely wrong with your hate against Igbos...

No need for Igbo to cooperate with Yoruba, we can always take care of ourselves, we don't need to gum body with anyone.

Since 1999, we've produced President twice, vice president once, speaker thrice..... Igbos come to our region to hustle, we don't go to theirs. It's them that need us to level up, we don't need them.

You see the insult this yorubakwe us attracting to IGBOS.

He has given agbados a mouth in this thread.

IGBOS gives no flying fùck about the backstabbers of the South.

We ain't one and can never be!!.

Give us a good port and gradually we will face the eastern side for business entirely (that's the only sector still linking us with yolobas)

Sure, because the Igbo community has always had such a peaceful and harmonious relationship with the Yoruba, especially in Lagos with all the discrimination and poverty they face.

Chinoso from Anambra burnt down a BRT station and BRT buses.

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Thursday ordered the remand of Michael Chinasa, an indigene of Anambra, accused of setting fire to a BRT bus terminus at Oyingbo in Lagos during a protest in October 2020 over alleged police abuses.
