Soldier Commits Suicide In Front Of Army Camp In Abia (Photo) by Metrix147: 3:10pm On Jun 18
A soldier serving under the 14 Brigade Headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Barrack, Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia local government area of Abia State, attached to the 144 Battalion’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) located at Ngwa High School, Abayi, Osisioma local government area has committed suicide.

ABN TV gathered that the incident happened on Saturday.

The soldier, a senior non-commissioned soldier Command Sergeant Major (CSM) whose name was given as Vitalis, an indigene of Okpuala in Ngor-Okpuala in Imo State, shot himself in front of the FOB gate.

The reason for the decision to take his life in front of the army camp has not been known at the time of filing the report as there was no suicide note.

Sources within security agents in the State said that only a discreet investigation would unravel what could have prompted him to take his life, adding that any attempt to suggest what could have led to his decision to kill himself could be prejudiced to the outcome of the investigation of the leadership of army in the state.

According to sources, until the death of the soldier, there was no reported case of domestic violence or work-related disciplinary action to be against him by army authorities at the Battalion or 14 Brigade Headquarters respectively.

It was gathered that the CSM suddenly disappeared without any trace of his whereabouts for the past two weeks he has remained incommunicado as several attempts to reach him by colleagues and military authorities failed.

He was said to have returned to the army camp and shot himself to the surprise of colleagues.

It was gathered that the deceased would have retired from service in October, leaving his colleagues shocked as to why he chose to take his life.

I mean serving in the Nigerian Army is the most ridiculous, shameful, local, unpatriotic, selfish and unorganized force in the whole world.
I still regret my service in the Army, and I hope the country is divided soonest, so everyone can be responsible enough to perform real time military service.

I can't give my service where my opinions/safety are neglected/disrespected. Where merits are ignored and mediocrity exhaulted.
You're not a brave man grin

This one probably died of frustration angry embarassed. When civilians come out to protest for better life, these military personnel will be deployed to attack protesters by the same people that caused all the problems we have in Nigeria. embarassed

He May just have realized from recent happenings in the country what a fool he has been all these years wrongly thinking igbos are his problem and that of Nigeria…maybe now realized that on the contrary igbos are actually the last hope of redemption for a better Nigeria, so decided to end it all

I mean serving in the Nigerian Army is the most ridiculous, shameful decision anyone would make. Bunch of local, unpatriotic, selfish and unorganized force in the whole world.
I still regret my service in the Army, and I hope the country is divided soonest, so everyone can be responsible enough to perform real time military service.

I was badly damaged for the years I served till date. I wake up everyday with invincible scars, trauma nightmare pains and guilt.
It was in that job I committed suicide 2wice. I actually died twice, but my body refused to die.
I faced malice, no love, hatred I began hating myself.
They stole my innocence, I became a condemned material.
God has always had interest in my life, cos he never gave up on me.
I'm now a new creature in Christ Jesus and I'm gradually unlearning and relearning.

I can't give my service where my opinions/safety are neglected/disrespected. Where merits are ignored and mediocrity exalted.
It's well with your soul

I'm of the opinion that news of suicide shouldn't be spread... The more you spread a bad news, the more it keeps occurring.

Suicide is not our thing many years ago...

No matter how hard it gets, an African man hardly thinks suicide... We only read that in news as it happens in western countries

But these days is common... And it keeps increasing

My people, don't kill yourself
