Depending on your families 'standard' considering the cost of feeding and ' every other thing your family needs apart from school fees then 700k is not too much.

Basically what I see here is a standard.

Is your family the rice krispies, peak milk only, expensive cereals type? No akamu once a while? (even akamu sef is costly)

Feeding is crazily expensive, all groceries are crazily expensive. Does she make fresh juices for your children etc etc. It all depends on the standard. Is the car taken everywhere instead of entering Keke sometimes? Every other thing needed for the house too is crazily expensive these days.
Do you guys subconsciously feel you need to meet up with a particular standard in the area you live?
Do you guys have to run Gen always once there's no light etc etc.

All These above are factors. And all these big big amount has little value these days. Full tank of 60liters plus is a lot of money now.

What I will advise you do is talk to her on how you guys can reduce cost, since you are feeling strained already reduce the standard a bit, so that some cash can be squeezed out, good thing you don't have toddlers your children are of the age they will understand small small, some extras can be Withdrawn. Most families are now joining heads together on how things can work finaincially these days.

I am more than certain that it is food that takes a large chunk of that amount. What we put in our mouth costs so much more these days. sad

It is well bros.

When I tell her to list out her expenses so I plan with her, she picks offence. I am really tired of the whole thing and don't know how else to approach the issue without causing too much problem. I know some men whose salaries are 250k-300k in PH, yet they are surviving.

700k and she can't keep it together for a month?Your wife is going over the top really. Maybe she knows how much you earn and feels she deserves more.700k can sustain the average Nigerian family and there will be nothing lacking in regards to feeding and groceries.

If you pay sch fees then your wife is not a good manager.

You need to sit her down and get involved in the family expenditures.
what is the percentage of people earning 700k per month in Nigeria? This is full time salary of a university professor, yet someone cannot use this to feed a home comfortably. My only problem is that he's living in a rented apartment. This is so wrong.

A virtuous woman is a woman who can manage her family even with the least amount of money.

No amount will be enough for any wasteful spender. Now, I know why men die so early unlike women. It's because they spend all their lives fending for the family at the detriment of their mental and emotional health.

A woman and in quote a supposed wife is supposed to be supportive. Whatever the husband gives her, she is supposed to manage it, especially now that the economy is telling hard on everyone.

This is the time she is supposed to bring out her A+ managerial skills as a wife. While it is not totally wrong to spend on a family, spending wastefully can be detrimental to the future of a man. This is because when a wife spends wastefully without her contributing anything to the expenses of the family, it can create a chronic deficit on the the man's personal financial reservoir. This means that, the man will neither be able to save nor have any tangible asset he can fall back on if things go sour.

What if in a situation where by things go sour for the man and he goes from square 💯 to 0? Such a wasteful wife will definitely leave the man once he can't sustain the standard she has created for herself with the man's money. She will abandon the man and run away from the marriage.

This is why we see so many marriages crashing on a daily basis. Some was because the man was no longer doing well as before. We have seen wives leaving their husbands. This is the main reason I will advise every man never to abandon their personal well beings at the detriment of caring for a family.

At this point, you need to cut down on every unnecessary expenses. If your wife wants to live a frivolous lifestyle that she doesn't seem to know how to manage things, caution her and if she refuses, tell her to make use of her own money to balance up to live flamboyantly.

Are women not supposed to support their husbands with expenses in the home? Of course yes. That's what keep a good family running. But today, we no longer have such women who can happily support their husbands at home to handle some expenses.

If your partner can't support you, how about she learn how to be economical? What I see here is your wife being inconsiderate and wasteful. The why she is being such a wasteful spender is because she is not contributing anything to the welfare of the family. The moment she starts contributing to expenses and spending her own money to cater for some things in the home, you will discover that she will start being economical.

Women will only be economical if they start spending their own money. They will do everything to avoid spending wastefully. That's because the money is coming from their own pockets.

So OP, try and ask your wife to start contributing little to running the home and see her reaction. I am afraid, I sense that woman might leave you some days if things peradventure go bad for you and you go to square zero, I forbid it for you. But I don't see that woman staying if this scenario occurs.

So, make it a habit now to start saving for your own future as a man. Don't let your wife wreck you. If you are wrecked today, she will abandon you and run away. Some women are very selfish. So, you need to be wise as a man to plan for your old age.

Don't waste all your resources fending for a family wastefully as a results of having a wasteful wife who lacks sympathy and human consideration.

Your children will soon be adults and one day, they will all leave you and your wife. Take care of yourself, wellbeing and mental health now, save more and plan for your old age. The family will survive even with 500k upkeep. Don't allow your wife to make you leave above your means.

Fact 👌
Dogalmighty17:
You don't have a wife. What you have is someone using you to cash out. 700k is more than what some men give their wives for a whole year and yet you do that in just a month. Something isn't right.

Your wife may be building somewhere or saving up money to move without you soon. I don't blame her. You are comfortable that's why you can be so wasteful.

Going forward, do not give her anything monthly, rather, let her write down everything she thinks the expense of the month will be. Let her list them down together with thier prices before you give her any money.
Make a visual confirmation of any purchase once it is done.

You need to put your wife on a leash else she may be your ruin. That you can afford things easily now doesn't mean that will always be the case and then you will see the true color of this woman.

I won't say much.

If truly you gave her a car and you're legging it, you know how things work.

Don't let someone turn you into a mad man. If she dey absent for 2 months, you no go run the house?

Wait till the month ends, go with her to buy all the items. Now you know how much. Monitor when the items are exhausted, now you know how often to replace each item.

Wait till the car is empty, go and fill the tank... Now you know how much it costs. When it's low, note how long. Now you know how long it takes to empty the tank.

Why are you filling the tank for her if she's driving the car and she has a business? I don't know. If someone wants to drive a car, they have to learn how to be responsible for it.

Nobody prays for bad things to happen, but if you fall sick and you're in the hospital for months, will you also have to worry that your wife cannot reasonably run the home.

She's a fully grown adult so she must start acting like it. Have a budget. If she doesn't contribute to making it, make it yourself.

I think i already said too much

for example people waste money buying bags of sand and sinking it into the ground to build house foundation. You are paying for dirt. This is a level of abstract thinking. Rent instead and use all that money to buy gold bars. Any money you get just buy gold bars. If you have collected like 100 gold bars you can move to Florida and buy a small hotel and use some of the gold bars as collateral and just be renting out to tourists. So now your life has evolved because you chose to rent and not be stagnated by sinking all your resources into the ground and be stuck in one place that you built house at. Half of these people sink these moneys into houses in the villages and would die without ever living in the village. Our people have this poverty mentality where they think you are crazy if you are not buying a house. Like something is wrong with you cuz you pay 3m in rent and don’t own. Never occurs to them that if a man can afford 3m in rent he probably earns 30 million a year so 3m is chicken change. They use the same poverty lens to gauge everything without understanding that there are levels to this life. There are some people in banana island paying 50 million Naira a year in rent but own no properties and are digital nomads who have billions in the bank but want to be free spirits with no property ownership tying them down to any country. Next rent season they will be in Thailand renting. So when your mind is expanded to understand these different dynamics you will stop trying to judge life through a poverty lens. Not everyone is interested in property ownership. Some would rather own gold bars than property etc etc

Thank you my brother. If I am in charge, I go very low, I no send anybody because nobody feeds me.

Yes, she makes fresh juice every morning for their lunch in school. The kids got tired of the fresh juice that they ignore it and return with it sometimes. Now she buys other drnks like yoghurt, chocolate and milkshake. Said she will be alternating them so they still drink the fresh juice when she gives them.

She complains i am too strict, and sometimes go for cheap things at the expense of quality. Always blackmailing me with the kids' health. That was why I withdrew a bit, before I'll be blamed if my kids fall sick. But, no be naija we dey? They still fall sick once in a while. It was in that regards she stopped them from drinking any other water but Eva.

I know some of these are not neccessary, but I just look away sometimes in order not to be 'too' strict'.

For comparison of standard, it's a NO. She knows nobody dares that in my house. Na she just set the standard, which if allowed, i will definitely lower it. Once in a while we dey clash, but you know how e dey be.

Oga, in it all please make sure you have enough savings for the rainy days ooo. This kind woman fit ask you say upon all the money wey you dey earn, how come you no get savings.
Have you also thought about bulk buying? That might help reduce the cost both of food stuff and time. In it all, handle it well and be firm if need be without being blackmailed. You have every right to ask for accountability and if anyone resorts to name calling, do not let it bother you.
Lastly, try to help the children understand the current day Nigeria reality. Let them understand that they are privileged and not look down on others who they may think are not in same class as them. Make them realize the need to be humble and accessible and make them a bit street smart.

I have seen such scenarios play out on so many occasions. My kids cannot eat or drink this....bla...bla...bla...But when life happens and they cannot afford to buy bottled water for the kids, they will start giving them borehole water and nothing will happen.

What I'm trying to say is, people go over the top for their kids and show off because they can afford it and not because they see it as a life's necessity. Peradventure, you have a drop in income and cut down her allowance to 100K monthly, she will learn to adjust.

Just like a sister wey say her husband can't eat groundnut oil that isn't sealed, it must be king's oil or any sealed oil, that others make him purge.

Wen g.oil got to 13k for a gallon, I asked her how far, she said she is now buying measurement oil. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wanted to ask her, if her husband isn't purging again
