guobe: It doesn’t work like that. You don’t say pay me the money for a well educated graduate and then I will go and get re-educated like a well educated graduate. You don’t say pay me salary upfront then I will work. You don’t say marry me 1st then I will show you I am worth marrying. The way to solve the problem is to raise the fees of local universities to a level where they can compete with foreign universities abroad like it was in the 1960s-80s. The good thing is it won’t be anywhere as much as foreign fees. If the amount for a truly competitive university system is N4m then double it. Those who are paying N20-40m+ abroad would gladly send their kids to universities here. The only reason they send their kids abroad is because they know the quality here is very very low. Why did I say double it? That way 1 fee paying student can subsidize the fees for a poor student and it will still be less than going abroad. That solves the problem of affordability for poor students and raises the quality of the degrees. It also ensures that both rich and poor can obtain good degrees that are worth more in the market than N45,000 salary. 2 Likes |

It was 2.5M Naira in my time 12 years ago. The school was affordable compared to top universities. The topic is incomplete. Where is his picture and the graduation event? A moderator created the topic out of his backside or stole a random write-up off X (I don’t care for the old name). |

guobe: At 16 most People in UK are already working. Kist people worked to pay their schooling fees. this is what you said people at age 16 are still children. the money they are earning is minimum wage a person earning a minimum wage cannot 'work to pay their school fees' the reason why people can do that in nigeria is because education is heavily subsidized |

Procashtips:You are very crude Mr man. That those people get job through connection does not mean others are benefiting from the same gesture. If government can provide jobs with good incentives, nobody will complain of high school fee. In uk, a security officer can earn over 4 million naira in a month when compared to naira to pound but in Nigeria here u can do the calculations of how much a security officer earn. Let's try to reason before bringing out idea 1 Like 1 Share |

It's a good investment tho expensive but the benefits/ROI are enormous. |
Re: The Amount Someone Spent To Graduate In Uk by being(m): 11:19am On Jun 19 |
guobe:What are the likely benefits? Opportunity to do care job and other labour intensive jobs(which he probably wasnt used to), organized system, better security Demerits Cultural clash, missing of food, family & friends back at home, subtle racism, economic ceiling, perpetual hardwork, weather, inability to discipline children, bad influence on children, less time for religious activities, social life reduction Then u ask ursef-- are all the demerits worth it compared to the benefits and heavy money spent? 2 Likes 1 Share |

You may not be able to save all of that in one year of working in the UK, but your first year salary is usually more than that for most type of jobs But conversely, I’ll advise anyone with that much money on ground to try investing in agriculture in Nigeria with safety in mind |

casualobserver:People are paying millions in private universities and I can beat my chest and tell you that the graduates being rolled out by the private universities can't compete with those from federal universities. Most Nigerian universities need to upgrade first-to be standard and inline with the present realities of the new world and not those their old paper based lecturing they are dishing out to their students. 1 Like |

I think it's worth it, if you can get certificate of sponsorship after graduation and settle. You'll recoup that money in a Twinkle of an eye 1 Like 1 Share |
