GloriousGbola:I get you, businesses can't survive leakages from so many fronts and stay profitable, but my point is, if thieves were ripping these businesses off since before 1999, we can pretty much call business theft a constant, and the variable will be the quality of governance that makes these businesses stay profitable despite theft, meaning the "real" cause of these businesses tanking isn't the theft, but the dip in the quality of governance. |

Theflint1: again as a business owner, you are smarter than this the dip is not in governance, it is in income are we earning the same revenues we earned in 1999, 2003, 2008, 2011? the demand for oil is winding down - which is why saudi and uae are pivoting to tourism the supply of oil is increasing as everyone has it in their backyards so our income has dropped but our internal opex has risen 2 Likes |

izzou: the other thing about asians - they may be paid more than nigerians, but they are paid less than westerners. and a lot of asian expats are much more conservative financially than westerners. you will see indian managers in tontolo kia moto. but every oyibo manager is in a late model suv. and because they are coming from third world countries, they can give solutions that work in nigeria. all this cng, lpg we are going on about - it is a mature technology in india and pakistan. but it is not adopted that much in western nations 2 Likes |

Theflint1: The inflation and cost of almost everything going x3 means those theft now has more impact on the business as it will keep ballooning their operating cost and with the reduced demand, the business can easily crumble. Both variables affects the business. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 1:51pm On Jun 19 |
Theflint1: There were many companies we used to see growing up that disappeared without us realizing For example this is an article about Michelin and Dunlop 2 mega tyre manufacturers who left Nigeria in 2007 and 2008, They have probably been replaced by China and Indian manufacturers now. The reasons those global European brand gave for leaving is similar to what companies are giving now https://www.just-auto.com/news/france-michelin-ending-nigeria-tyre-making/ https://www.tirereview.com/dunlop-sweeps-out-of-nigeria/ The decision is said to be inspired by the persistence of power cuts, unreliable gas supply, a rise in manufacturing costs and inconsistent governmental tariffs, which allowed imported tyres to gain the upper hand in the domestic market.

GloriousGbola: Exactly. While the constant factor is the bad economy, one group has learnt to stay afloat by paying lesser, cutting costs and doing anything and everything to profit. Unilever may be paying a factory worker 50k per month, while one Chinese company would be paying 28k (1k per day) per month. And both of them will produce detergents to sell. Who go fit survive inside a bad economy? Guinness and NBPlc usually purchase brand new Mitsubishi Pick up for their Sales personnel. Tolaram go buy one Chinese smaller toy for theirs. Na only Asians & Nigerians fit survive for this kind place 4 Likes |

izzou: Those western owned companies they feed staff during work. If you see the kain food you go chop for Chevron, Mobil Shell Total canteen even reach dem Dunlop Guiness Michelin omo you go get potbelly after 6months Wetin concern Chinese employer if you never chop for 2yrs Abi na staff club wey be like resort, Most of us have one parent or uncle who used to work in a Manufacturing company in the 80 and 90s and those companies have disappeared long ago without trace to be replaced by Lebanese Chinese and Indians |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:21pm On Jun 19 |
GloriousGbola: Its happening in Tech and Manufacturing even in US and EU. Most jobs are being sent to India now. If your staff are Americans they will claim benefit, Insurance PTO, workplace Hazard, minimum wage While in Asia a 9yr old will get $1 per hour gladly no break, no insurance, no PTO etc thats how your sleek phones and designer bags are made, From Chinese sweatshops When you drive around America yo see giant factories in middle of America that are now abandoned and desolate. Most likely those operations have moved abroad. That is why many of those people who are affected are backing Trump because regular politicians have served them lamba for decades |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Spy360(m): 2:23pm On Jun 19 |
GloriousGbola:According to MC Cipolla laws of stupidity those who support actions that does not benefit them are the stupid ones. We need that level of audacity to change the political and socioeconomic landscape of this country. For years politicians have been doing things any how and going Scot free. We need critics like the 'obidiiots' who can criticise anyone including the man that carries the face of the mob. I don't get this idea of showing respect to someone who failed to respect himself. Respect is reciprocal. If a elder steals and is caught, I shouldn't call him ole because he is my egbon? That's stupidity. If you don't dance naked on the streets no body will call you a madman. Even if it is culture let the culture change because it is not beneficial to anyone. 3 Likes |

raumdeuter: Those guys will block every hole that will lead to a loss....No compassion or mercy I know a guy that worked in a bakery. He said for every slice that you mistakingly don't cut to the right size, it is deducted from your salary. So in a month, you might have "eaten" your salary from improperly cut bread. Meanwhile, i know a Western confectionery where the improperly uncut ones are sold as scraps to pig rearers or most times, the staff can take it home (The company has been sold now). 1 Like |

raumdeuter: Treating one's employees well with good welfare package does not necessarily mean the company is wasteful like u are making it seem here. There's actually no big deal in a company providing lunch in the work place, dry ration and other added benefits to their staff.(Some Nigerian owned companies even do it in the financial services sector sef) These companies make serious money from the businesses they do and it will be wickedness on their part to make that much money without making some provisions for their employees who helped make those monies. Some of these things are not even luxury. For example , a multinational that owns plants where some chemicals and by products of petroleum products are made will provide cartons of milk for their staff on a monthly basis. When u see the staff of such company carrying Ghana-Must-Go bag of peak milk home, u will think the company is being wasteful . But in the actual sense he needs that milk due to health hazard he's exposed to in the work place. Now if an Asian takes over such company and stops such dry ration, I know some Nigerians will see it as they bringing an end to wastefulness but they don't know they are only supporting an action against their brothers and sisters. In the long run these Asians taking over Western owned businesses are not doing us any good. They don't even pay as much tax as their western counterparts because they know how to "cook books", the jobs they offer are low paying jobs, whatever they save while "cutting cost" ends up getting repatriated to their home countries etc. Let government fix the economy and let businesses be able to thrive, not only Asians who offer less to the economy in the long run 3 Likes 1 Share |
