Arthur Unaegbe a Senior military officer of Igbo extraction stood against the coupists when others fled. He refused access to the armory and was killed because of that. But they will tell you no Igbo man was killed in the coup and that the coup was an Igbo affair... A coup that has actors like lt. Olofimihan, col ademoyega, col banjo, and many more from north, west, east and midwest

The coup itself was a nationalistic affair. However, within the inner circle of those who planned the coup there were those who had their own agendas. Ifeajuna, for his failure to eliminate the senior officers in Lagos, was the major reason that coup failed. All evidence suggests he had been in contact with Major General Ironsi, instead of eliminating him as planned. Ironsi's survival (and Ojukwu's refusal to act in support of Nzeogwu), meant the end of the coup.

Madiebo gave a blow by blow account of the war in his book, Nigeria Revolution and Biafra War. I like the way he wrote the book. The book also shows his level of intelligence and professionalism.

Two Igbo officers from present day Anambra

Madiebo was commander of the entire Biafran Army

Dpharisee:

But we told no Igbos wete killed in the coup sad

Unegbe was Asaba and was the only Igbo Speaker killed by the Jan 1966 Coup

There are 2 stories about why he was killed

The first was that he refused to give up the Armoury keys to the Coup plotters

The second was that he and Maimailari were tight friends and he was certain to retailiate against any attack on Brigadier Maimailari who was killed during the Coup

Whichever way you look at it he was killed for his Loyalty

Nobody fights a war with the thought that he or she is going to lose , can you give me any evidence of biafrans saying we are going into the war to lose to the federal army?

Scotland played against Germany at the opening game of the ongoing Euro 2024 knowing that man for man they don't stand a chance. They played their heart out, they didn't chicken out like you would do.
The Igbo say adighi aso mgbabu eje ogu.

It's not just about the victory, it may sound foolish to you but fighting for your right, fighting and dying for what you believe in is the measure of a mature man.

But they will tell you no Igbo man was killed in the coup and that the coup was an Igbo affair... A coup that has actors like lt. Olofimihan, col ademoyega, col banjo, and many more from north, west, east and midwest
The reason why that first 1966 coup is widely called an "Ibo coup" in literature and media is that those who OPENED DIRECT GUNFIRE FIRE (and assassinated the post-independence 1960s politicians, their family members and associates and military officers of other Nigerian regions) were Ibo-speaking officers. Sir. Ahmadu Bello, Sir. Tafawa Balewa, Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh a wealthy Itsekiri politician, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and many military officers from other regions such Brig. Samuel Ademulegun, Col. Ralph Shodeinde, Lt. Col. James Pam (Berom) as well as the three most senior Northern Officers in Nigerian Army at the time of their deaths in the January 1966 coup, Lieutenant Col. Abogo Largema from the Marghi area of Borno, Colonel Kur Muhammed and Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari from Yobe State (formerly in Old Borno Province) were killed by gunshots fired by well-known Ibo officers. To make matters worse, Aguiyi Ironsi from Umuahi then took over military power without moving fast enough to punish the coup plotters.

The only Ibo-speaking officer to die in the coup, Lt. Col. Arthur Unegbe, was shot by Major Chris Anuforo because he was known to be close to Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari and had to be silenced to prevent him from raising an alarm.

Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu who is from Okpanam near Asaba in a statement while he was in detention accused the coup plotters of Ibo origin of tribalism because the ORIGINAL plan was to eliminate and take over governance in all regions of Nigeria, but another section of the coup plotters allowed the Premier of the Eastern Region (Micheal Opara) and others to escape. Meanwhile, Nnamdi Azikiwe was still on an extended stay abroad when he ought to arrived back in Nigeria over a month earlier because of the Commonwealth Conference that was supposed to take place on Lagos, hence the widely circulated belief that Zik was tipped off about the coup by his relative, Ifeajuna.

Hence it appeared to all that the coup was an Ibo coup favoring the largely Ibo officers who made up the list of the coup plotters.

This is one of the factors that unfortunately triggered the REVENGE coup plot by the largely Northern region officers with many from the Middle belt areas of Benue, Plateau, Adamawa.
These are facts of Nigerian history of which I have a vast knowledge of. Period.

What you want to hear is that the federal forces won. Yes they won but Biafra lost gallantly and till today they are proud of that.

And would you have stopped the killing of igbos in the north? The same shit that still goes on today under any pretext. The way you people twist a history you weren't there to witness is surprising.

Anyway you're right it's foolish to fight a war you won't win that's why the bandits and killer Herdsmen are having a field day all over the country.

Only the most brilliant and academic sound goes to Sandhurst Military Academy( SMC) England where they spend about to earn the Queen's commission as second lieutenants. This was the case with Gowon, Alexander Madiebo, Maimalari, Nwawo, and hot of others.

Meanwhile, others not deemed academic sound or fit are often sent to Mons Officers Cadet School Aldershot- England and other British military training institutions.

Everything was going on well until the born-to-rule feudal powermongers can't stand it anymore hence decided to start forcing the colonial master to introduce the skewed and defective quota system criteria to smuggle those who eventually bastardized the military and ended up do same to Nigeria's politico-military journey.

Why did Zik and Awo fail to insist on dividing the country at independence as the Indians and Pakistanis with Bangladeshis did 13 years earlier?

What was wrong with the two southern leaders? Do you have any clue

The bolded is lies, falsehood, half truths and propaganda......
You guys need to stop blaming others for your mistakes and errors......the most tribalistic destruction of the Nigeria army and Nigeria as a country took place under the constantly inebriated General Aguiyi Ironsi. If you doubt this check the lopsidedness of his cabinet and appointments!
