Rivers crisis: Wabara warns against declaration of state of emergency


The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, Adolphus Wabara, has warned President Bola Tinubu not to allow greedy and power-drunk anti-democratic forces to hijack Rivers State.

Wabara issued this warning in a statement he signed on Friday.

The PDP chieftain warned that the party won’t allow the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State amid the rift between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyseom Wike.

Wabara expressed worry over the political crisis in Rivers State.

He said, “There is nothing happening in the state that warrants the call for state of emergency as being demanded by these fake apostles of peace.”

The PDP BoT Chairman warned that any attempt to tamper with Fubara would spell doom for Nigeria.

He said, “I have keenly watched the political developments in Rivers State, and want to place it on record that PDP and the law abiding citizens of this country will not tolerate any attempt to derail democracy in the state.

“We won’t allow anti-democratic forces and insatiable elements hijack power through the back door in their desperation to hang on to power and hold the state to the jugular.

“Any attempt to scuttle the democratically elected PDP-led Government in Rivers is a recipe to a political unrest capable of consuming the entire country.

“I, therefore, call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to allow greedy and self overrated power drunks to push him into taking steps that could portray him as a despot, and ultimately plunge the country into avoidable upheaval.”

When it became 2 years and 6 months. The House of assembly huriedly extended. The tenure by another 6 months for selfish reasons.

That's not the provision of the law
Imagine Buhari changed democracy day from 29 May hand over date. To June 12.

But the Constitution says you should hand over May 29.
He didn't stay a day extra to claim. Democracy day is June 12 so I will not leave office till June.


There tenure is over they should just leave what they didn't do in 3 years they can't do in 6 months extra


By the way we know the assembly men that are extending the tenure have already lost their seat by defecting.

Tinubu should tread softly on this Rivers State issue before it turns into a full blown crises which can set this nation on fire.
As if not meeting up on the expectations of Nigerians is not enough (a failure), he shouldn't let the ambition of one selfish minister to lead him astray. He should make himself useful for once. Nigerians already hate him.

Yes you reiterated my point perfectly, that powers is vested in the state house of assembly.

Lagos State won @ The Supreme Court because the provisions of the constitution which is Supra, gives a state house of assembly the powers to make laws for, that govern the local government, which they did by creating the LCDAs.

The constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) is constructive notice, and only oblivious purportedly minded political zombies naive to the laws of The Federal Republic of Nigeria (LFN) will imagine that an elected state Governor can unilaterally create LCDAs.

Ignorance is never an excuse in jurisprudence for anyone, the doctrine is well established in statute.
