TenQ: I never said he knew anything about Jesus Christ. Did I? Did he get to know about Jesus Christ by independent thinking or he was guided by someone? 1. True. But before they became Christians. So you assume the Apostles can lie right? Did the Apostles assume that Jesus can lie? 2. True. But the last word is your own thinking 3. You're not serious. Did Paul not play a central role which helped them to become believers? It's like me coming to tell you that your land is sitting on a water passage and building a house on it will be illegal. You do an independent investigation to see whether I am telling the truth or not. You see it was true and you refrain from building on it. If someone asked you what influenced you not to build there? Will you say it's your independent thinking or that you did investigation based on what someone told you. Will you say it was you cos I did not bring a map to start showing you things? Lemme give a personal instance I always thought God's name was Lord. I was shocked when Jehovah's Witnesses told me that it appeared over 7000 times in original manuscripts. I did my own independent research and it was so. I began to mention the name everywhere. Did any JW sit with me and told me what to search or how to search? No. Who guided me to know about God's name as Jehovah? It was the JW but my research only added to the conviction. Now that I'm a JW, should I adopt independent thinking cos everyone says God's name is Jehovah and begins to call him whatever I like? No... I'm not a Muslim or an atheist Now tell me, Was independent thinking encouraged among Jesus disciples of old? Should it be encouraged today? |

MaxInDHouse:Your comprehension of scripture is at kindergarten level. A non Jew becoming a Proselyte is EVIL!? SMH! Of course, you don't know who a Proselyte is Exo 12:47-49: "All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with you, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. One law shall be to him that is home born, and to the stranger that sojournes among you." A Proselyte is ANY non Jew who loves the God of Israel and decides to abandon the gods of his people and have only YAHWEH as his god and obey all His laws. They didn't teach you this!!? 5 Likes |

Aemmyjah: It's the rebellious spirit that's killing him slowly! How can someone abandon the religion of his own ancestors without being PREACHED to or talked to before switching lanes? Even Abraham the father of all those having faith was called by God Himself Abraham didn't just abandon his pagan gods like that nah! |

Aemmyjah:He's just a misinformed churchgoer thinking he has scriptural knowledge. All proselytes were PREACHED to before they abandoned their former gods the difference is that each generation of proselytes have level of understanding as truth is unfolding. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Aemmyjah:The point is that the Bereans VERIFIED from the scriptures whether the Gospel according to Paul was True. Acts 17:11 "The Bereans were nobler than those in Thessalonica because they received the word with all readiness of mind and examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul told them was true." 1. Did you read that they sought from the scripture to see if Paul was saying the Truth? Aemmyjah:How could you think that the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was LORD? Didn't you attend Bible Studies in your former church? 2. The name of the God of Israel is NOT Jehovah but YHWH (Pronounced as YAHWEH). The Jews do not have a letter "J" in their alphabets. Names like Elijah, John, Joshua are preceded by YA- John = Yəhôḥānān = YAHWEH has been Gracious Jesus =Yeshua = YAHWEH is my salvation Elijah=YAHWEH is my God. Exo 3:15: "God, further said to Moses:»You shall say to the sons of Israel: 'YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' YHWH THIS IS MY NAME FOREVER! This is my memorial-name to all generations." So, if you are particular about the NAME of God, it is YHWH and not Jehovah (Greek) Did God speak Greek to Moses or ask you to translate his name? Aemmyjah:You are behaving exactly like Muslims: they too don't have independent reasoning nor thinking like you JW. The follow the consensus of their Scholars Secondly, Muslims will tell lies to defend their preferred Islamic narrative as given by their Scholars even against clear scriptures Are they right because of the lack of independence in thoughts and reasoning? In both respects above, you are like Muslims You are deceived by wolves in sheep skin whose power over you is complete when you cannot think for yourself. Was independent thinking encouraged among Jesus disciples of old? Yes! 1. This is why Jesus asked His disciples Questions like: Who do you say I am? Matt16:15 Why are you afraid? Matt 8:26 Why do you not understand..Matt16:11 2. Are those who told you not to think for yourselves Infallible? Are they Jesus? Are they the Holy Spirit? Why then must you entrust your soul to them rather than Jesus Himself? Should it (independent thinking) be encouraged today? Yes Because in the end times dangerous times will arise Mat 24:4 "And Jesus answered and said to them, Take heed that no man deceive you." When you submit you soul to an organisation or people, you are in danger of eternal damnation 1 Jn 4:1 "Beloved, do not trust every spirit , but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world." You are warned NOT to trust just anyone who claims to be speaking for Christ. Mat 24:24: "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Take heed because people will come and replace Christ as authority over your soul Paus said you shouldn't even trust the Apostles sheepishly. Gal 1:8: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel to you other than the one we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed!" Any organisation that forbid you from thinking is a CULT of Wolves in Sheep skin whose purpose is to lead you astray! Why do you think they make themselves replace Christ in your life? 5 Likes |

Re: The Beroeans: What Can We Learn From Them? by NairaLTQ: 9:15pm On Jun 23 |
MaxInDHouse:Why would the Apostles and Angels be included in this verse. Shouldn't you just accept WHATEVER they say without question? Gal 1:8: "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel to you other than the one we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed!" This scripture is against you big time. Paul was simply saying: Verify what we are saying now with what had been said before AND if there is any difference, don't accept it. What had been said before to us is the SCRIPTURE: and anyone Even if he is an Angel from heaven must be SCRUTINIZED with respect to the scripture. You teach the exact opposite. Too bad! 5 Likes |

TenQ: 1. You answered this already in your first comment and it's not different from what I'm saying. Do you mean that in the Christian congregation of the first century, what the heard from the elders, missionaries, Governing Body is subject to whether it's wrong or right? 2. All the churches I went on Ibadan for 19 years said so. I was an usher, chorister, drummer. It was Lord they told us as they used references in the Bible. Abasi, Obong means the same thing in Efik and Yoruba 3. Pronounce YHWH lemme hear. The English word for it as it appears in some English translation is Jehovah. I don't know how Jesus was called in his time and I don't care but it's definitely not Jesus but that does not invalidate who I'm talking about. Same with John or whatever name you want to mention. Has your pastor or your yourself make God's name known as Jesus prayed? You're not serious You're not talking to Muslims and Apostate remember? Jesus was asking their opinion and he praised Peter for his correct answer. Was Jesus trying to ask their own opinion or just encouraging independent thinking. If it were so, whatever anyone thinks of him does not matter and that would only bring about misunderstanding. If Jesus Christ caution his disciples to take heed that no man deceive them. Is he not acting like a cultist as u said. Independent thinking should allow them listen to anyone and make any decisions they Wish. Is Paul not also discouraging them to think for themselves? If someone is questioning your authority as a father and teaching your son to do so. But you tell your son not to listen to such one. Are you or that person encouraging independent thinking on your child? Is Christianity of the first century not also an organization? Should I define organization for you? In your own terms, all Christian then were in damnation The GB does not encourage us to trust them sheepishly. Many of us don't even know any of their names or their number and that is cos we don't give undue importance to them which is unlike your own church where the Overseers are even more popular than the name of the church. The GB too will render an account to Jesus and Jehovah. Paul only said if they bring another message not in line with the scriptures. Why will I put faith in them if they are teaching outside? Paul is not saying they should leave the faith even if one of the Apostles teach something different. One will not say ’Paul said something completely out of harmony with the scriptures, so I am not a Christian again, lemme go read my Bible at home or I'm gonna do my own things my own way'... I don't submit my soul to the GB, mention one JW that does so The scripture u quoted said they should test whether the spirit came from God. According to you, no spirit comes from God, all are false. You're looking ridiculous The GB do not encourage us to listen to them sheepishly. They don't even encourage us to believe in the Bible, Jesus or God sheepishly. Don't you reason well? Does your child listen to you sheepishly? You said our organization doesn't allow us to think independently Now you say, they don't want us to think The ridicule is on you |
