Greetings My nairaland Family, I will go straight to the point, I was 16 years when I discovered Nairaland since then I've really learnt A lot in this great forum Apart from the bashing and Tribalism here,
I am what I am today because of Nairaland, So this is my story I am from a poor family like very poor so I've been trying since years to figure out how to make a living when I say Making a living am talking about my career part cos already I usually farm with my Dad in the Village, Beginning of Last year I started learning web design, I know some HTML and CSS code, Then I realized that I can't do this anymore cos I need Laptop and good phone and steady Electricity to be learn Programming, so I quit and started searching for Other online business, Later on I landed in domaining, My life changed A little bit though, today I can afford some basic Stuffs for myself,

I have double WAEC cert (Art and Sci) all in good grades, Now I am 20yrs old and from the looks of things by next year I might be able to sponsor myself in the University But my problem now is I am not Motivated in this school of a thing, Like I am thinking about putting my money in other businesses so that it can generate money for me, I don't want to do something because others are doing it I am from a poor background and my goal is to make sure that I Make enough money so that Poverty will be wiped out in my Family, Does it really make any difference if I don't Go to University?
What will University offer me?
I am not good in maths even if I will enter school I will look for Courses that doesn't have much maths work

So my good people of Nairaland I need Advice on what to do, should I focus and chase the Money or Is their anything out there University Education will add in my life? Because that will be a big distraction once I get admitted in the University, Lectures, Exams, fees, Many other things that I can't start writing here so pls I need Advice from both Graduates and Non graduates here and Business men too
What should I do at this point?
Pls manage my grammatical error

Continue chasing the money, down the line get a degree and the do not kill your income source when you start university.

Be wise with girls, avoid the hungry ones, that's like 95% of them. Also stay away from dreamers and it is not your responsibility to lift your family from poverty. That is a sure recipe to amount to nothing in this life. Give what you can.

Thanks for your input I really Appreciate already there have been a little setbacks recently from much spending in terms of girls they're not in my list, doesn't mean I don't have a girlfriend but not my Priority ✅
Again thanks

You dont even need a girlfriend. What you need is focus on your work-life or anything that will lead to your success. When you have gotten enough money then you can find a girlfriend and marry her.

You may have a girl dat is ur friend sha. But never allow romance or love into it.

Dreamers are people who only have ambitions but too lazy to work on making it reality. If you meet a girl that's a dreamer, she can get you to start a business for her and act like she's entrepreneurial but she will collapse the business as soon as you are done financing it. There's always an excuse why they can't seem to succeed, never taking responsibility for their failures.

Apply for a university part time program... There are options of daily or weekend program

You can choose the weekend program

You'll have time to work and earn money while also pursuing a degree
Re: Should I Go to University? by oginga: 8:12am On Jun 23
Since you're making some money from your hustle, I will advise you to do part-time programme and earn your degree with ease. Even if you don't need a degree now try and get it, it may be your support system in the future.

Also document all the jobs you do, you never can tell when you will need a reference and attestation from someone.

When it comes to journey of life and fulfilling destiny, you have to be intentional. Like someone said, avoid women for now and concentrate on making money and getting your degree.

All the best bro!.

Re: Should I Go to University? by Watcharena: 1:27pm On Jun 23
Delay the schooling for two or three years and make more money many first class graduates are on the streets looking for what to eat. Money will give you Freedom that your certificate can't give you. nobody respect your certificate but will surely respect your money. From your narrative you want to eradicate poverty from your family not to increase the number of graduates. you can always go back to school when you're financially stable.

I think this is exactly my own thoughts since I am just getting the cert for certificate sake not to look for job then there's no need of rushing things

Keep on making money in whatever passion you have and when you're ready for school go learn business management. Btw, anything you want to do in this life, you must learn to love maths.

What did these first class graduates study? What year did they graduate? How MANY first class grads have you seen looking for what to eat? Or did you just see the phase - many first class graduates are on the streets looking for what to eat - somewhere and decided it was funky to use?

Based on the bold, run a part-time program in any course while maintaining your present source of income. Also, diversify into other businesses. Build systems (documentation, training etc) around your businesses rather than people (employees can resign anytime).

The best jobs are math-based, so since you don't know math, don't bother going through the process. Also, don't be bothered or interested in relocating as the odds of doing so via study or work favour mostly numerical graduates.

Additionally, a major reason you should study in a tertiary institution is to broaden your thinking process, be open-minded, and broaden your network beyond your current environment.

Lastly, build yourself to the comfort you realistically seek before having anything to do with women. Even when the comfort has been achieved, enjoy it first as a bachelor before courtship or marriage. That is, enjoy your money as a man who worked for it before bringing another party into it. When choosing your would-be woman, VET her thoroughly. Women are brutal vetters. Vet her as much as she vets you. May the best vetter win.

My question was HOW MANY? You showed me only one. When making a categorical statement, you must be careful with certain words which have to do with numbers. To teach you this thing, here is a first class graduate of Accounting from Covenant University: https://www.linkedin.com/in/fatima-dashe-ad24/ who works for the prestigious company Boston Consulting Group. Would I now say that ALL first class graduates are employed?

Now to Kura Benedicta (I just read the post on Facebook) who graduated and served not more than two years ago. The questions are: has she written aptitude tests? How many companies has she applied to? Before attempting to write ICAN, has she applied to top accounting firms?

I don't work in bureau of statistics, are there unemployed first class graduates in Nigeria yes. I don't know which one aptitude test because I never wrote one before I got a job. As for Ican I was not a member of any professional body before I got a job.

I outlined the reasons why he should go to school and the form of study he should focus on. As for billionaires:

1) Everyone cannot be a billionaire. The way you people use that word is somehow. Look, there are less 3000 dollar billionaires in a world of 8BN+ people.
2) Most successful entrepreneurs worked somewhere before starting their businesses. It was at these places they learnt how well-structured businesses are, how to manage build and manage a team, source for clients, build their network, increase their knowledge/skill-set and most importantly, raise their initial capital.
3) Since you make it seem like no billionaire made it through a paid job (which is a lie on its own), why are you working? Why not resign? You no wan become billionaire too?

Thank you sir for your input, so far people have been saying go to school, i think am buying the idea, I might later settle with Art course, something like Business Admin. Although my wish is to study tech related Course but Maths is scaring the shit out of me🤧
Re: Should I Go to University? by Emeraldfynest(m): 4:31am On Jun 29
Your story is similar to mine. Although I just finished from a Federal University last month. I studied a course I was interested in (Agric) so I’ve decided to start a new degree in September to read B.Sc Information Technology (I started working in Tech too while in my 4th year).

You can check this school, it’s an Open University and the curriculum is top standard. I’ll advise you to still go to school. https://miva.university/

You’re still young and before you know it, you will be done. Your degree will complement your work experience too.
