Japa Inside Japa,very Confuse… by exnovio(m): 9:39pm On Jun 22 |
Dear beloved Nlander I need your candid advise because am in between two choices that might make or break me. Iam in my very late 40s living in Spain for 19yrs am married with two toddlers 8 and 4,my wife and I have stable jobs I work during the week she works weekends with this time table we can take care of the kids. Now for the sake of my kids I decided to relocate from Spain, because I want my kids to be English orientated because here in Spain the chances for them to succeed is slim ,first choice was Scotland but I ruled it out because of this brexit thing,so settled for Ireland because its the only English speaking country in the EU where I can easily settle and start work as European passport holder. So early this year I spoke with my manager at work he is a very good friend he helped me to secure this job ,I told him am leaving in April this year,he told me to think about it very well because leaving where you are doing good for the unknown is scary,I told him Iknow ,he was right ,after some weeks again i told him I still want to leave I told him he should negotiate with the the bigger boss so I can get my payoff he flared and vowed I will never get nothing from the Company,my plan was that before I lay my hands on something in Ireland with my payoff at least I can sustain myself and my family.he told me I must not go. So I paused the plan am thinking could God be using this guy to save me from a wrong move or the Devil using him to stop me from achieving God’s plan for me. 2 Likes |

exnovio: Please stay. You and your wife are already doing well in a well developed country like Spain. Like people said up there, you can engage a private tutor to teach them English language. Remember, most of us ran away from Nigeria because of the hopeless situation of the country. That cannot be said about Spain. So, I advice you stay. 6 Likes |

It seems this your so-called friend doesn't want you to progress and is envious. I'm going to assume he's Nigerian? After 19-years in Spain, you should definitely move to a better country in Europe (e.g Ireland, like you've mentioned) if you will have better opportunities there and especially for the sake of your two little kids. The fact that you still told him weeks later means this is something that's in your heart to do and you will forever regret not doing this. Idk why you can't go to the bigger boss (who is that?) yourself to get your payoff or whatever financial compensation you would be entitled to? What kinda job is this?! If you're legal there, you should know your rights. In any case, don't stay in Spain because of your As long as you and your wife have planned your relocation, move! I know someone (a Pharmacist) who moved from Nigeria to Ireland about 7-years ago, found work soon after and has been thriving since. Your friend is an enemy of progress. Anyone here telling you to stay in Spain would be an enemy of progress. Go to Ireland. Great things awaits you and your family. Let me finish with one of my favorite Bible verses (Joshua 1:9): 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go". 9 Likes 3 Shares |

This one that you've already revealed your plans to your direct manager and he's also proven that he's not really your friend but just friendly towards you because you're probably a hard worker and doesn't want to lose you or go through the hassles of replacing you, you really have no option than to leave. You should have finalised your relocation plans first or at least get a job in Ireland first before letting them know at work. Your mistake was thinking your boss is your friend because he's friendly towards you. But I believe there are official channels for you to apply for and get your payoff, and you should utilize that. And leave as soon as possible before you start seeing his other side. And don't make the mistake of using him as a reference, unless you have no other option. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Move to Ireland. In 6 years time when you get the Irish passport, you and the rest of your family can then get access to the UK, which is the best country for people of African descent in Europe. And besides, since you're an EU citizen, apply for Irish jobs on Indeed and LinkedIn. When you get the job, then move. It's much easier that way, instead of leaving and then looking for a job. 2 Likes |

Transitioning is not an easy job this days with the Economical pandemic going on all of the world… Like someone here suggest.. try to make sure your kids spend dia summer holiday in Nigeria.. it will help them learn English and your native language.. On the other hand.. get a English language teacher to teach your kids.. Goodluck 3 Likes |

Let me tell u something here,my sister in law lives in Italy and she is married and has the EU passport, albeit a citizen, their children speaks English fluently. She comes back often with her children. U need to help those children in that area and moreover, even if they don't speak English what is the big deal. Who the English help. Speak ur local language for them that is more than enough. Don't leave ur job,I remembered when my sister in law tried this, but she couldn't live in London due to heavy tax, small house yet expensive and restlessness and she had to move back to Italy where her husband has a good job and with their functional mortgage that is nearly paid off. 6 Likes 1 Share |

exnovio:I have an extended family member, like an older uncle who tried what you are about to do and he had to run back. He lives in Italy, have an Italian passport. Have 4 kids, he is divorced. Though his kids are kind of grown, his son is schooling in the US; university. He relocated to Ireland and had to ran back to Italy after realizing it was not worth it. He was lucky he didn't resign from his job in Italy. He went to test the waters and it wasn't that rosy he ran back. Another person is my close friend's elder bro who lived in Spain with his wife and kids. He relocated to UK with his wife/kids. They stayed back in the UK because both the man and his wife were able to secure a stable job with Amazon UK. So UK became better than Spain for them where they couldn't secure a stable job. But his case is different from yours because they didn't have stable jobs in Spain unlike you that have a stable job with your wife. It is better to have a plan for your kids to study in English speaking countries like Ireland, UK, Canada, US, Australia, New Zealand. Or find way to enrol them in a secondary school in Nigeria while they return back to Spain during holidays. Don't resign from your work in Spain for the unknown in Ireland at this age. There is a solution to get your kids to have English background while you and your wife work full-time in Spain. If your mom or you wife's mom is alive, rent an apartment in Lagos or any other preferred Nigerian city and get your kids to return to Nigeria to start school while you and your wife work full-time and start a saving plan to get them to study in any of the aforementioned English speaking countries for their tertiary education. |
Re: Japa Inside Japa,very Confuse… by franchasofficia: 9:25pm On Jun 23 |
TheWinterBird:You need to find out his occupation and career path to know if he would succeed at his age in a new country like Ireland. The major issue in Spain is securing a stable job, and since he and his wife already have one, it would be better they stay back and plan how to get their kids to study in any of the first world English speaking countries. If he is not in the medical field, not in the high skill and high sought after fields in IT, relocating at that age to Ireland may not pay off. If he was trying to relocate to US which offer wider opportunities then it would have worth the risk, but Ireland a small country with accommodation issue, hmmm, he should look well and pray very well about this. 2 Likes |

exnovio: You are almost 50 and close to retirement. How much do you think your pension would be in Spain when you leave and in Ireland when you leave the workforce? Do you have a signed job offer from a company in Ireland? What kind of skills do you have to present to Irish firms that there is no substitute from elsewhere? As a man who has toiled so hard for 19 years, I strongly state that you have to enjoy your hard work without disrupting yourself again for another relocation sojourn. Relocation is hard anywhere and by moving here and there, you lose the social capital you have built only to rebuild in your new location. You do this when the money is plenty, not when you are average. This is akin to a company with limited capital opening branches here and there when it has not conquered its home environment. As for your kids, English MUST be the only language spoken at home, no ifs or buts. Even if you were Chinese or Arab, this is the same policy to enact. English is the world's global language for business and studies. To prepare them for the next decade, ensure they get the best education, especially mathematics-based, in Spain. When it is time for university, they should focus only on American universities. Get them prepped for SAT and TOEFL. In the application process, they should choose the option of Black/African regardless of their nationality. With a high SAT score, scholarships are plentiful. In life, you have to use other people's money to leverage and advance to the next level. In this case, their intellect is the collateral. Remember to ensure they choose Black/African American in the application process. Hopefully, they have Spanish nationality to ease visa issues. I say this because Spain no get work for their natives, which is why they move in droves to Germany, Austria and Switzerland after graduation to search for good jobs. Let alone black children. Yes, the UK is the best place in Europe for blacks to thrive, but no country on earth, not even in sub-Saharan Africa - home to black people - defeats the USA. That is the only place where blacks, both professional and blue-collar, thrive economically. Your children must not have Europe as the only option, especially as they are black. You have done well for yourself and your family. At this point, don't overstretch yourself. When the time is right, the children should do that for themselves. You have offered them the bed, let them search for the pillow. 5 Likes |

Mille: All this movement for a 50 year old man . op make a law that English should be the only language spoken at home so your kids can acquire the English language. They can speak Spanish in school or anywhere else but anyone who speaks Spanish at home would be thoroughly dealt with. You are the man of the house. Seeing that you recently gave birth and I am quite sure you have been a Spanish citizen before giving birth I wonder why you didn't arrange for your kids to be born in the US since your wife won't have needed a visa to go born there since you are so scared of your kids future not being secure in Spain. 1 Like |

Black man and lack of planning. Even if the kids eventually school in the US, settling after school is difficult. Anyway Sha he has given them a Spanish passport which isn't that bad. If my papa been give me Spanish passport I for worth at least one million usd now with all wey dey my head. |
Re: Japa Inside Japa,very Confuse… by Gerrard59(m): 8:01am On Jun 24 |
tensazangetsu20: Most of our people think in the short term. Also, maybe he was trying to move to English-speaking countries within that period, but calculated the costs of relocation. Which begs the question, why now when he is almost 50? At 35? Yes. Not now. Terrible move. Even if the firm offers him L1 visa transfer (an assumption), he will lose the social capital he has built over time and sense of stability. Well, the koko for folks in non-English speaking countries, especially places where okay jobs aren't available for the natives in particular is to birth their children in Anglophone countries. Most importantly, the use of the English language should be mandatory. I hope those Igbo fellas who lampooned us for emphasising English over Igbo for diasporans have realised why some languages are more important than others. My leader!!!!!!!!!!! |

exnovio: The answer is Yes, you are planning to ruin your life over a child that may not even appreciate all the effort to make them great. Please stay put where you are, hire someone from Nigeria to teach them English, pay around 150 Euros monthly to that person and in one year, your kids will be very fluent in English. Ireland's PR is very easy but It has only one commercial state which is Dublin, jobs are scarce in Ireland, that place is a beautiful desert. Do not go there at all. Your children can speak Spanish, that is a plus to live in America. Refrain from Ireland, trust me I have first time experience of Ireland, there are no jobs in Dublin. The other states are practically dead in terms of opportunities. 3 Likes |

B) i will suggest you take an unpaid leave (aka 6 months) and go test the waters without your family... and see if you can remotely make it there... if you can then make the move and bring over your family, if for any reason you cant make enough to cater for your family, then go back to Spain where you have contacts/knowledge and a JOB (that you possibly can get back). C) life is an adventure but when you have a family/children to take care of, then you have to do smart moves FOR THEM. si tu no tienes dinero para mudarte entonces quedate en españa... |

Before you can think of a plan In your heart, it's because it became possible in the future. Most of the things we think about are already existing in the future, now life places some obstacles and divergent paths to those PLANS. Its up to you to cross those obstacles, first obstacle life has thrown at you Is your friend who also doubles as your boss. The second obstacle will probably later be your wife refusing Ireland. Whatever you want to do, be determined about it with your heart and let no one change it even If you end up failing. Make sure you do what came to your heart 2 Likes |

I really want to thanks each and everyone here who gave their advice here to guide me on this crucial decision, those who advised in favor and those who are against.God bless you,am reflecting on every single piece you dropped here. Spain is my home ,the people here ,are lovely,no other country in the world come close in terms of legalisation of immigrants status, the weather is perfect, the cities are beautiful ,the transport network is one of the best in the world ,cost of living is moderate. But Spain the system is conservative ,there are lots of immigrants in Spain mostly from Latin countries and Morrocco who were born here, their fathers were brought here centuries ago, they schooled and strive here, but you rarely see them having a good job, there are some jobs here they tell you only for white Spanish,in my 19 years living here I have only seen one black bus driver I was shocked because it’s rare here.i had a Spanish gf some years ago she was one the bosses in a Bank, she came home one day telling me she saw a black girl in her place of work she was stunned, and the girl happened to be a Nigerian who lived studied in the Uk, got the job in the Uk transferred to Madrid. But in the Uk and other Anglophone countries this is so common,so my relocating is mainly because of my kids. 1 Like |
