Kenya’s government is standing on business. If you don’t want the finance bill, contest election, become president and repeal it. You can’t bully the government with protest. If they back down on this then they will never be able to accomplish any other thing.

The Kenya populace are also very resilient people. Our Nigerian brethren fled at the first sound of gunshot and started tweeting ‘who ordered the killing’ from under their beds.

This is an example of a people that wont allow its government to take them for granted. Taxation must come with reasonable justification, better representation, and significant results in the quality of life of the people being taxed. Lawmakers, executives, bureaucrats, and the judiciary cannot be living large corruptly, while the citizens wallow in abject poverty and wade through swamps of difficulties. Nigeria has one of the worst cases of taxation without equal rights and better life for all.

How much was your tax bill last month?

Africa leaders are very wicked you went to borrow money share the money with key holders in the state without doing such with the said loan, You now increase taxes on the citizens to pay back the loan and interest accrued. I wonder why most Africa leaders loves to see their citizens suffer. This is wickedness in high places

They should not forget how Egyptian masses chased their leaders out of office in 2011, even with all the military that used armored tanks to crush protesters.....
You can see the enemies of the country ba.. Mynd and people like him are the true enemies of this country.. They give the useless leaders reason to continue misbehaving.. What is goverment in a democratic setting? Do understand that its due to the will of the people that a goverment emerges? So to whose interest is the action of the goverment if the people have rejected the bill ? why not stop it and if you feel the country needs it then educate the people more about the importance of the bill. The europeans used an iorn feast on us and imposed bills against our will doesn't mean we should do same to our people.

The Kenyans protesting are not doing so for a one Kenyan but for the fact that they all do not want to be taxed to death. Stop brandishing this one Nigeria. It is not a good enough excuse because no one region in that country is clean as far as corruption and criminality have become the daily reality. Even if you split Nigeria into 100 parts, I can guarantee you that these same problems will continue to affect every single partition and will continue unabated until the people stand to fight it head-on. undecided

When will the people stand to fight head-on? undecided

Do you think Nigerians can protest like the Kenyans?

Do you think what Kenyans are passing through is comparatively worse than what Nigerians are suffering?

If Yorubas were a country of their own, they would unite to fight or protest against oppression. Same with Igbos and any group of Ethnic Nationalities that have willingly agreed to exist as one.

When people sent to represent the people go there and start defending their personal interest it stops being democracy and becomes oligarchy or any other dictatorial kind of leadership that you wish and before blaming the people for protesting or rioting you should point the gun or finger at the real cause of the problem(POLITICIANS)

Physical protests does not work in the Nigerian context. This we know. However, Nigerians have since 1999 had a weapon they have for reasons best known to them refused to use. Now is the best time to start using that very weapon and to do so as freely as possible before it is deprived them by the criminals in power. Their power to vote out their incompetent (both elected & non elected(talking of those who rigged themselves into power)) representatives both at local and national levels lies dormant to this moment and really ought to be activated at this point in time. Or at least before the future for this generation, and others after have been completely shattered by the thieves in power. undecided

thr requirement is to gather signatures from at least half+1 of the voters in your specific electoral area. And yes, it is what people in parliamentary and Democratic communities do, their civic duty. You don't simply say, "oh, he rigged himself into office so it is over," No! You can cast a vote of "no confidence" to have them recalled in that case, something Nigerians ought to be doing a lot of but haven't been doing any of. undecided
This is what I've been discussing with people in my immediate environment.
We need to spread this idea and strongly advocate it. Until the masses come to know that this actually is their power over these politicians, they will be taking the masses for a ride.
Please keep discussing it

You didn't answer my questions.

However, the weapon you say Nigerians have that is not being used is simply because patriotism is zero. Everybody, including you and me, is out to grab from the center when given the opportunity. Anybody in power is considered as his turn to chop.

Inasmuch as your points are valid, but the fundamental problem is that nobody believes in ONE NIGERIA.

Look at all the nations in Europe. They all have one national identity. Imagine if Italians, Portuguese, English were lumped together as one Country.
Or if Israel & Iran were joined as one country.

Or imagine as a businessman, being forced into partnership with another businessman.
At best, both of you will try to forge ahead, but if that doesn't work, it's either you renegotiate the terms of business or you go your separate ways.

Honestly speaking, I don't see Nigeria making any meaningful progress as a Nation under the present dispensation.
You may think otherwise. undecided

True talk, power belongs to the people but in the case of Nigeria, the people have allowed the power to be taken from them. The people are the husband while the wife is the government.
