A person was accused of a crime instead of them to go and prove his innocence in the court or get a lawyer they're saying Nigerians are being maltreated. Is he the only Nigerian there.

You think every other is like Nigeria where you will commit crime and use religious and tribal sentiments to evade justice?!

Let CAN go and write their useless letter to help this one evade justice na!

Nonsense and pastorRAPEneurship

Without trial?

But the lousy idiot in the video said they are putting the judge under pressure to sentence him to 10 years in prison and at the same time, he has been in detention for a year without trial. Which are we to believe? The socalled pastor commited the crime and as usual, the Nigerian factor of twisting everything (for sentimental gains) has been brought into play to make him look like the victim. He raped a 13 year old girl and tried to intimidate the victim's family by suing them for defamation like they do in Nigeria but unfortunately, Benin is not Nigeria where we see these unfortunate pulpit bandits as demigods.

He should be tried for his crimes and if found guilty he should be sentenced to death

yes, arrest a man and start looking for a crime to pin on him - where is the evidence? I am not saying the man is a saint- but this looks like a framing issue - either the pastor dated the mother of the girl and things went sour between them and she is trying to get back at him by such accusations or na money matter - lack of good sharing formula for the church business proceeds ----- angry

So let them prove he raped the girl instead of chaining him like an animal for over a year. No formal report, no investigation, no evidence, nothing. That's inhuman and the very height of injustice.

If they can prove he committed the crime, then by all means justice must be served, but until then chaining and detaining him like this is cruel and unusual punishment

His Excellency Mr. The President of the Republic of Benin,
Head of State, Head of Government
Subject: Open letter to denounce the facts
Repetitive rape, threats, intimidation and sabotage
from Pastor EGBAJI Benjamin resident of Abomey-Calavi
Semè district tel: 97887811
Your Excellency Mr the President of the Republic,
Your Honor,
I allow myself to write you this open letter in order to expose grave facts I have been a victim of for years.
Indeed, it all started in 2010 when I was 11 years old, I had gone on vacation at my aunt AHOUANDJINOU Solange who attended the church of Mr. EGBAJI Benjamin, pastor of the Church of Miracles and Actions of the Holy Spirit (EMAS) located in Abomey-Calavi. This one had put me under the care of the latter.
At the age of thirteen (13), this March 2012 "pastor" EGBAJI Benjamin had started touching me when everyone in the household was sleeping or praying, he would call me in his bedroom and sleep with me and when he was done with his dirty needs, he called me was giving pills and threatening to keep quiet. I lost my virginity like never to recover. This has occurred not only once but several times from 2012 to 2016. I was brought to swear on the Bible by him never to inform anyone.
At the age of 16, my custody was sought by him in court. What he got. He took me before the Prosecutor of the Republic of Abomey-Calavi where I was forced to make statements that I had lost my virginity at the age of 10. It was just a ploy and I couldn't shake off the fact that it influenced me, but also because I didn't understand the meaning of the word "virginity" at my age yet
Mr. President, not only in this household was I a victim of rape but also of intimidation, I was called a witch and a victim of child abuse.

this is the best I could find

Kehinde condemned the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in Benin, particularly against the Igbo community.

The question is,why always Igbo wherever they go ? There must be something about the Igbo that everyone finds irritating, that's the truth!

How then do you know if he is guilty when there is no trial and no evidence to back up the claim. I don't support rape how much more when a minnow is involved but the right thing should be done.

This your comment coming from a man is even more disheartening. Hope you are not making this comment just because you hate Ibos?

this can happen to any man, a lot of men have been accused wrongly with rape just to punish them for what they know not about

If they have evidences, they should charge him to court let the Judge decide the case

Men are endangered species!

Allow the rapist to be helped in solitary confinement until the conclusion of investigation

It's okay to have a problem with Christianity. However, do not make it make you loose your sense of reasoning.
1) He was accused and then arrested, a day has to be fixed for the case to be heard in court. That has not be done in over a year.
2) Why is he being chained to a bed in such an inhumane manner?
3) How many times have CAN in Nigeria written letters to help people evade justice?
Infact, people have argued that CAN doesn't support Pastors in trying times, and that's why many churches are not CAN member's.

It would be a different thing if he was tried and convicted and people are protesting. The case of people languishing in courts without trial is commonplace in Africa and it's a barbaric act.
Go to Nigerian prisons and you will hear tales by moonlight of people accused and abandoned in prison with instructions not to allow the case get to trial because they cannot prove their allegations. The goal is just to make the victim lose some precious years of their lives. Pray it does not happen to you or any of your loved ones.

Finally, I have not said the Pastor is guilty or not. I've never heard of him. Let him have his day in court!

Read this story and see what a pastor did for this man.
It is this generalization that will make an American say all Nigerians are scammers and we will be angry.
It is this generalization that will make an American say Boko Haram is all over Nigerian and we will be angry.
It is this generalization that will make an American say Nigerian is a shithole and we will be angry.
It is this generalization that will make an Ibo say all Yoruba's are ritualists and we will be angry.
We need to stop generalizing.

He thinks every other African countries would treat a rape case with kids gloves.

In Nigeria, they do as they like without consequences:

Pastor rape people's pockets
Pastor rape people's wives
Pastor rape people's daughter
