My Take On The Protest In Kenya by mrvitalis(m): 4:30pm On Jun 26
Good day everyone

I'm going to speak about this Kenya issue because this is where Nigeria is heading towards. President Ruto came in and met debt to GDP ratio at 68.5% he managed to bring it down to 55% as at today.

The tax increase was needed, because Kenya tax revenue to GDP ratio stands at 15% the standard is 25% to 35% so the increase is needed but like Peter obi always say the president must lead by example, so in reality increase in Tax didn't result in this protest the president asking people to sacrifice without first doing so is what brought about this protest

So if I was president Ruto.. I would call 15 representive of the youths, debate them on national TV for 2 hours.. Let's share ideas review numbers, make them understand why this scarifice is important that's one .. But it's also important to make them see what you would get sacrificing too.. This is important.

Reduce your convoy, sell most private jets, reduce salaries and Ministers, and the rest, ask youth to nominate 5 people to be designated ceremonial ministers

So Kenya youths might be happy today they got what they want but trust me they would pay more in the future

Back to Nigeria

Lol our case is worse

Nigeria tax to GDP is about 9% the last time I checked

Debt to GDP is fast approaching 50% , if we recalculate our GDP with 1500 it would be over 50%

Nigeria debt servicing to revenue ratio is about 75% Kenya is around 41%

Now what do we do

APC idea is this borrow more money, build road ,rail way system , airport and the rest then investors would come - Buhari did this and it never resulted in any economic growth.. Rather it increased debt servicing and recurrent expenditure and reduced available revenue

In 2019 Obi vs Osibanjo debate - Osibanjo was of the opinion that building infrastructure was what would kick start and reverse or economic decline to economic growth

Peter Obi on the other hand surprised everyone by saying na infrastructure doesn't kick start economic growth... Yes it held economic growth but that's not what we needed to kick start our economy again

Obi suggested we focus more on human capital development, educate our people given them skills, provides soft loans for SMEs and this would kick start our economy growth... I bought this made my research, observed states in Nigeria, country found it to be true

What's my point in all this... If we are to avoid Kenya situation, Tinubu must tune down infrastructure projects now

Roll out multi trillion naira SMEs credit facilities and another multi trillion naira big companies credit facilities... If done right

This would create millions of jobs, increase revenue, grow GDP and kick start our economy

I sha rest my case

You have sense. But you didn't add the military removing bandits and terrorists from the Nigerian soil. The food shortage is as a result of the banditry. Farmers are scared of going to their farms.

Nigeria must invest in technology fast before those bandits do. I saw one video where they were testing a drone. This modern time, drones are used to bomb enemies inside the bush. No soldier goes to the bush anymore. They only need to control the drones from the house.

If those bandits quickly make investments on tech, e don be for Nigerian soldiers.

It would have been a fair analysis but you destroyed the whole article where u mentioned Peter Obi.
Its easier to stay on the byline and start propounding theories that even if things go awry, you'd never be held responsible for anytihng

Not even Tinubu thought it would this hard at first until then he got there and see it the way it really is. He quickly doled out some policies that he thought would work like magic(cause thats his thoughts from the outside as a mere citizen or a past Gov of Lagos state) but now, he knows better and just realized he has to keep tweaking to get better result

No dey use the random opinion of person wey no dey Govt again to judge, thats not logical in anyway, considering the fact that Anambra didnt become the Economic hub of the Nation under him

Resist the urge to compare. U don make the whole topic go tasteless with this Obi proposed theories sad

Bandits are easy to remove... A serious government won't need 6 months to remove them

I would use them to fertilize the farmlands

Ban arrest completely, shoot even if they surrender

Problem is, Nigeria can not give out loans right, and any loans given out would be used to service existing loans or be consumed.

Nigerian seriously needs to improve its "human capital development" and "educate our people and give them skills" so we are more productive.

so because he mentioned Peter obi all he said there was rubbish. What do you have against Peter Obi, since APC took over Power in 2015 the refused in building Human capital development. All we see is just endless borrowing, building useless infrastructures, ok what about Npower that billions was wasted how did it develop anyone? Yet we are wasting billions again on building useless infrastructures that would further throw the Nation into colossal debt. My own is that what the OP said is true but it can't happen in Nigeria because our youths are mentally lazy and are deeply divided by tribe and religion.

The way those guys hate anything Obi eehn, I wonder how they sleep at night. Buhari started with his trial and error till we managed to endure him. Now, it's Tinubu and they just think Tinubu is better than everyone, better than Obi because of tribal sentiment. So, because Tinubu is failing is the reason Obi would have been worse. Chai! Mehn! Mentality when!

Peter obi's policies were the best except that he'd had kowtowed to the north unlike TINUBU.

The problem with tinubu is elite baggage,he is all for the elite and nothing else,he will never do anything for the general populace.

But they have trillions for infrastructure projects?

That's not a reason to divert trillions to consumption. Besides, you can't just stop infrastructure projects that were began years ago. And while they may not seem to add to gdp, many actually do.

Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is a case in point. We'd leave Lagos at 5am and not arrive in Ibadan till noon before it was built, but its now opened up access to places you never could get to, and barring god worship, Lagos to Ibadan is an hour.

We don't have enough light. We don't even have the knowledge to let there be light even if we say it. I'd invest in that infrastructure if me. Nigerians would do wonders with cheap always available power.

I am not advocating Nigeria take loans for anything. Though, if we don't, we'd need to tighten our belts a la Babangida's structural adjustment program, which would result in less consumption.

Our entire economy needs to be reformed in order for any loans (private or public) to be paid back.

For Nigeria to break its vicious circle of excessive public spending, inflation, and exchange rate depreciation, and to reach the virtuous circle achieved by these other developing countries, it will need to adopt a package of stabilization and structural measures that ensures the efficient use of resources (by both the public and private sectors) and the provision of basic social services. This path offers Nigeria the best prospects for sustaining economic growth and poverty reduction.
