How do u conclude a refinery has a terrible safety culture from this picture ? 😮

I have been in a plant similar to that before and I saw water being sprayed on such pipelines to cool it down. Definitely , overtime the water will wear-off coatings off the pipe and u will see traces of rust like this one u are seeing in the picture .

I don’t think u can just claim there is no proper safety culture in place by just looking at this picture .

The refinery is a multi billion dollar project with so many stakeholders who did not just put their money in it to have it burn via terrible safety culture . It appears u are looking at things from an agenda point of view .

Refinery that has not been operating for up to a year? It’s too early to have that level of rust, unless substandard materials were used.

It is more of a red flag. If that pipe that we can see is already showing signs of serious wear and tear, what about the other things that we can’t see but are equally important.

i suspect that the last phases of the project were rushed because there was so much pressure on dangote to deliver from multiple quarters.
a fire is a serious warning because for you to have a fire multiple safety barriers in your system have been breached
visible rust on the joints of your pipes in a facility that is less than 6 months old is disturbing because it may mean that off spec pipes were installed. much worse is that a rusting pipe is a pipe that will fail under pressure. and the pipes in the facility will constantly be under pressure.

this is dangotes first foray into the oil ad gas industry. most newcomers have to learn the hard way. safety is time consuming. safety means adding four steps to a two step process. safety means a job that takes 5 minutes will take 30 minutes because of prep. so a person coming from a business environment may see this as a waste of time. it is also much worse in nigerian run companies because in a Nigerian company - the engineer will take the fall. in a Total, the ceo will take the beating for not promoting a safety culture

i can tell you dangote is going to have a lot of explaining to do to a lot of people, especially as the oil industry is very big on safety.as for the IOCS who he has been calling out - they will be quietly smirking at the JJC who want to play in the big leagues but cannot get small safety processes straight.

Baba, Dangote owns the Africa’s biggest granulated urea fertilizer plant which has been in operation for the past 2 years. This is not his first foray into oil and gas . The set up of both plants are similar .

Honestly I don’t think safety measures were circumvented in this refinery project . Accidents do happen even under the most safety compliant conditions . My bet is on the fact that the fire is more of an accident than negligence

Those pipelines have most likely been laid since the commencement of the project . They didn’t just lay the pipe last year na

It’s still not a good look. How many years have they been cooling it with water as you said? I have seen metallic structures which have been exposed to the elements survive for longer before becoming rusty.

Shouldn’t they be made of or coated with more resistant material?
I am not an engineer but I don’t think they should look so rusty so soon. You know the next stage after rust is developing holes and fragmentation. If there is already that much rust a few months in, how soon do you think holes and leakages will start happening?

I am also not an engineer but I don't think we can draw inference that the whole refinery project has terrible safety culture in place simply by looking at that pipe. For all we know, that may even be a water pipe and not a pipe that contains hydrocarbon or any other chemical.

Those bigger overhead pipes are the ones that most likely contain hydrocarbon.

Lmao.. My brother, a plant is not something you joke with by having things like corrosion appear.
Then if you watch the video on the day of the fire out break, you'll see people walking around the place burning. These are not fire fighters or even HSE officers with fire fighting equipments.
It also shows the slow response of the company's ERP.

Like I said, terrible safety culture.

Boss...

This is not about twitter but his engagements....he seems too poor with his campaign ..

I haven't seen any of his campaign till now unlike Asue whose fake campaign is all over every nook and crannies of Benin...

Maybe he is being swallowed by Obaseki's underground work sha....

Presently, almost all d buses in benin are being forced with Asue stickers or banners....

Let me make this much clearer....

I don't think any of the forerunner will do a good job so I don't have any favourite.

Asue and the APC guy where relatively unknown but with the way Asue tends to flood everywhere with campaign promises either thru d media and posters..

He is actually on people's lip either for positive or negative news......

Femi otedola admitted that he considered suicide at a time. It was when yardua was alive. Yardua cancelled all the concessions that allowed otedola to make his money, and otedola instantly was in debt. Big debt.he had just built zenon head office and he could not move into it because zenith bank had a lien on it. Who knows, if gej had not become president maybe he would have committed suicide.
God no go allow person see life battle. That's what I always say.

Somebody taking decision to out themselves is pretty difficult, people try and fail at that.

It's not something anyone does willy nilly (terrorists aside) but regular people it's really hard and difficult to explain

Look at someone like Anthony Bourdain. Which work easy pass make person dey travel to cook and taste food while getting paid for it, or the DJ Twitch. Man's married with kids always dancing and catching cruise all of a sudden poof e off himself

These things are complex
