He has been disciplined mostly because there is no audience and it is controlled but as always he has evaded answering a lot of the questions. Speaking out of topic for the most part.

Every response is towards the border, which to be honest has been poorly handled by Biden. However, the battle ground/ swing states do not border Mexico so they may not care as much in comparison to southern states, whom he already has secured.

Newton would have been chewed out. His extreme liberal views would have been an easy knock out for Trump. Biden should have sat this debate out.
