FG Bans Use Of Styrofoam In All Ministries, Agencies by Lanrelagboi: 6:29am On Jun 28
Five months after Lagos banned single-use plastics in the State, @NigeriaGov has imposed a similar ban "in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government", in line with the 2022 National Policy on Plastic Waste Management.
Ban approved at FEC yesterday.

This ain't good enough. Supposed to be banned nationwide. I feel that Styrofoam is still being used to serve food in so many states in Nigeria.

Misplaced priority. The directive is good though. But there are more pressing issues facing Nigerian. There is serious hunger. Prices of basic food items are out of hand.

Kenyans are already dressing the excesses of their leaders. All we get here is telling us to be patient, meanwhile our leaders cannot by patient when it has to do with their pockets.

Styrofoam is a cheaper alternative to plastic plates especially now that plastic plates are expensive and come at N200. Imagine buying rice N200 and meat N100 only to pay another N200 for something that you won’t eat whereas the N300 worth of food gets nowhere. People who can’t afford an extra N200 are forced to buy in Nylons which is no different from using styrofoam but nylons can sometimes be unhygienic.

The worry of the government is not that styrofoam causes cancer, it’s just because of its non-biodegradable nature which pollutes the environment. If proper wastage disposal mechanism was in place, styrofoam would have been very good to use
