The school culture in Nigeria is off the chain. A lot of people go to school because everyone else is doing it and because they’re told than when they’re done, they will get a very good job and become rich. While some people struggle to get a university education by barely passing or being average, some others actually read a lot and pass in flying colors. But passing an exam does not denote intelligence. It simply denotes “passing an exam”.

If you disagree with me, pick a random student from an American university and a Nigerian student of University of Ibadan (one of Nigeria’s top institutions) and ask them their thoughts about issues and you will notice how close minded the Nigerian student will be. They tend to be absolved in their own world and you then wonder what the whole point of an education is.

The term “university” was gotten from the term “universal” and was created so that people can understand the world around them and have atleast common sense. But for a lot of Nigerians, common sense is not common. It’s just about getting rich though education. sad sad sad

In summary THE ABOVE is what the Nigerian Education System is all about. Simple and short.

Just pass and get claps and accolades. If u r intelligent and smart out of books and outta 8 courses. U pass 7, U will still be abused, insulted and embarrassed.

We are timid, truth of life. Na street life make some of us beat that allegation.

The best student in Nigerian schools ends up been a lecturer who cannot pass the knowledge he owns to other people. No innovation, no money. He becomes a lecturers without changing or creating one single thing with his knowledge throughout his stay as a lecturer. He retires and stays at home. Others becomes politicians

That's why I laff when I hear Nigerians feel pride when they hear that a student who is from their trib studying outside the shores of the country or even in one of the country's higher institutions of learning scored the highest grade points average in their respective schools grin🤣😂

The question we should be asking is that What have they used these high scores to invent, create, change, improve

What impact have they translated into?

Hehehe 🤣

This was how education was sold to us. Bet you do not know that there was no way they could sell education here which was why they had to create all the bad bad things we have now which is the riches and class thing and i better pass you thing.

Which was why they over rewarded the first educated natives with annoying riches and excessive wicked power and advantage where before all of us were fine and equal in nature.

But having made our brother over better and greater than us, and even teaching him to oppress us, origin of segregation, class and v.i.p thing, all because he went to that place called school, it was only logical for people to go there to stop the oppression and the wicked separation.

In as much as the standard of education in Nigeria has dropped below the bar...

But I think most of the blame shouldn't be on the educational system. But on the Nigerian society.

You really can't build much on a faulty foundation.

Most of our values as a society and people are really faulty.

It's our mentality as a society that is questionable really.

Most of our exported educated products do well in better structured societies!

Timidity versus education. Is education capable of curbing a person's timid disposition? Yes, but it depends on the kind of education and the social millieu that created it.
For Nigeria, nothing seems to be functional due to the foundational defects -- and that includes its education.

See a guy who doesn't know the actual meaning of "timid" and the difference between "absolved" and "absorbed" casting aspirations on Nigerian graduates and universities.
It seems you're one of those who managed to pass their exams without being intelligent.

Being timid means being easily frightened, and it doesn't fit into the context you and the Op are trying to use it.

You guys wrongly use "timid" in Nigeria to mean "not well exposed".

Both of you are actually the kind of yeye graduates you're talking about.

Words don't always have a straightforward definition...

Sometimes you have to apply context!

Timid in this context means lacking courage or confidence. That meaning was implied in the whole text, nigerians are well exposed by the way, the courage to prove that is what we lack.

We know things and when asked, we tend to lose the confidence to answer not because we are not exposed or don't know the answer but because we lack courage

They are only educated on paper and mostly clueless in real life.

Most of our 1st class graduates are products of a rote memorization examination system which is never a true test of knowledge or intelligence.

It is mostly 'gberu gbeso' if I'm permitted to use the terms in yoruba. Even thousands of our professionals are nothing but functional illiterates and we need a serious overhauling of our education al system.

I was considered very smart in Nigeria and passed everything on time. Degree, masters and professionals in Nigeria.

I went abroad to study thinking I was a very smart dude and I got the rudest shock of my life. Even the smallest micro Economics class had to be applied to real life andI struggled to pass the business class. I had to withdraw from the final exam of introduction to business.
I wan die I wont lie.
Our education na basic rote memorization.

Also for Naija, I was a local table tennis champion and in my arrogance, I challenged a chinese guy to a competition. I abandoned the game after 5 minutes and could not continue. My eyes could not follow the ball move.
