Thank you for your feedback. Your narrative is not factual. The Igbos were vulnerable to Bini, Ijaw and other ethnicities because they were not united under one king. And so these small but more united ethnicities were able to raid Igbo villages, and the next Igbo village would not help them. In fact, it is even likely that the nearby Igbo village would be at war with the village next door being attacked. The pre-colonial Igbos lived in autonomous villages. They had no central kings until the British imposed warrant chiefs on them. This made it easy to divide and conquer them village by village.

It is even silly to say the Ijaws did not have the capacity to wage war against Igbo villages. The Itsekiris, Ijaws and Binis waged war against the British.

Nana Olomu, for instance, fought a war with the British. He had warriors in boats that killed White Europeans with guns. If he could do that, then why would he not be able to raid an Igbo village?

The Binis, Itsekiris and Ijaws had central authority. The entire ethnic group could gather at a single location on the summons of just one man. We would all kneel for one man. And we would all go to war at the word of one man.

Why do you think there are so many Igbo-speaking sub-ethnic groups around Binis, Itsekiris and Ijaws? These ethnicities are the ones the British forced us to release when they banned the trade of enslaved people.

I don't want to mention names. But look at the immediate neighbours of the Bini, Itsekiri, and Ijaw. They speak Igbo but are not accepted as Igbos by the mainstream Igbos. Ask yourself why?

Some of the names of these sub-Igbo tribes are either Bini, Itsekiri or Ijaw names. Even if you look at the titles that the traditional rulers of those sub Igbo ethnicities bear, they are similar to Bini, Itsekiri or Ijaw titles.

Many of these people will tell you they are not Igbo, but their language is Igbo. Ask yourself how they got to where they are today.

Look, history is not always pleasant. We have surviving photos that we cannot even publish because if we post them, maybe it can lead to war in Nigeria. Please, let us just let sleeping dogs lie!

Thanks again, and may God bless you.

The job seeker abi table shaker talks about sub lgbo groups in ijaw and benin but could not mention one of such group. He talks about one obscure character nana oluomo that killed whites with guns. Igbo nah one small ethnic group right from back in the days. They had no king or whatsoever, just like Reno said..

But I don’t think binis, ijaws couldn’t enslave Igbos cuz they were not united. I believe it cuz they saw them as people with no or less resources. During slave trade, slaves with no resources, slaves from stagnant enclave don’t usually worth much!

So, to me, it’s more of even if we enslave them, what’s there to make off them?..

Re: Bini And Ijaw Were Able To Enslave Igbo Because They Were Not United - Omokri by gidgiddy: 2:51pm On Jul 07, 2023
Reno is right about Igbos not having kings or a central king. Igbos simply dont do kings and empires. Very few Igbo communities such as Onitsha and Nnewi had kings. Back in the olden days, rather than have kings, Igbos had what is generally known as the "Okpala/Okpara" system where the oldest people in the village, also known as "Ndi -Ichie" would deliberate on matters concerning the village and everyone in the community would vote on it. The most senior member of Ndi-Ichie, the "Okpala/Okpara/Opara" would preside, but he was no king

It was after the British came that they introduced kingship and appointed many of the "Okpala/Okpara" as warrant chiefs

As for Reno saying that mainstream Igbos say that the the Igbos around Edos and Itsekiri( sometimes known as Delta Igbos" are denied by Igbos, gone are those days, if it ever existed

Sunday Oliseh, a Delta Igbo, denied being Igbo and was roasted alive by his brothers across the Niger. Harrison Gwamnishu embraced being Igbo and his sister across the Niger bought him a brand new car the next day

That tells you a lot

This have been disputed over time , the igbo back then were divided into clans, they too fought wars and captured slaves including ijaw people. The igbo even operated osu caste system .

It's stupid and illogical to say ijaws enslaved igbos when they only defeated some villages and villagers

The British even found it hard to defeat igbo . I don't know the lies runo is spreading about defeating the whole igbo or colonizing them

That's a big lie , can't you read and understand the game Reno is trying to play?

Igbo were divided into clans and they had the Aro also who also participated in raiding kingdoms and buying slaves

It's stupid to say ijaw enslaved igbo , making it look like they defeated the igbo ethnicity as a whole.

Instead because igbo were not united they had smaller clans and much powerful and bigger clans

Ijaws only captured and were able to overpower the smaller clans to loot them

Ijaw and Beni combined can never have enslaved or conquered the igbo ethnicity as a whole

You already fell for his game , igbo also had ijaw slaves which were captured from war.

I literally have someone who told me how his fore father gave an Ijaw and igbo name to free him.

Reno is right. I came across a very unpleasant Igbo history and it made me really feel sorry for them. The sad history however offered an insight into why the Igbos behave the way they do today.

The Ijaws, the Binis, the Itshekiris and even the Igalas actually raided those remote hinterland villages of the igbos for slaves, captured them and oftentimes sold them as commodities! It's a fact that's well documented.

If an Igbo dares me,I will drop one of those documents here now!

Ijaws enslaved ibos. History is not always pleasant but it is what it is. Asari made a similar statement and no one argued with him. There are documents and pictures too.

An example is a picture below from the 19th century showing an Ijaw man and his fully dressed children and naked slave girls. From the ichafu on the head, and bangles on calf of those slave girls, you can easily tell the tribe they are from. I have filtered out the original image to remove nudity.

People often ask why history was removed from schools. It's not always pleasant. The igala too had their own conquest from the north. That is also why some parts of Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi still have kings that pay allegiance to the Attah Igala in Benue till date.

It's the main reason. The ibos were a bigger tribe than those other minority tribes but the ibos were not united as one indivisible unit. This made it easy for even smaller tribes like the igala or ijaws to raid or poach small Ibo hamlets to catch slaves. It's difficult for smaller groups of people to defend themselves especially when there are children and women in those settlements as well.
