Baptism represents something very important. When you are immersed in water, it means that you have died to, or abandoned, your former way of life. When you come out of the water, you will begin a new life doing God’s will. It shows that you will serve Jehovah from now on. Joined with them were the Jewish elders who helped compose the highest judicial court of the nation. How did this circumstance affect the course of God’s Son, Christ Jesus? They felt no obligation to “go along” with the organizational structure and it's officials in their erroneous course or to accept and support its misrepresentations of God’s Word. Their loyalty to Jehovah and to his truth superseded loyalty to any earthly system, even one initially established by God, as was the nation of Israel.
