#5 (and sometimes #2) are my CLASSIC slices for dodo. #s 1, 2, 3 out of the window... Anything less than the BEST is a felony.

Really? The bolded info above is new to me, I'll try different slices of dodo (fried in olive oil) and see how they pan out with my tastes buds.

Really? Can Olive oil stand the heat?

I think that'll be wasting expensive cooking oil in my opinion.

This picture caught my attention, I had to bring it here for some foody fun. cheesy

Do you know that fried plantains taste slightly different depending on how they're cut? Well, they do. smiley

So, which of the cut(s) do you like the most?
Number 1 go send you go where you nor know. I would prefer number 1.

Then, the Ghanaians and the Ivorians are guilty. cheesy
Guilty is an "understatement." cheesy

Have you ever physically been to Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Ghana before? Lovely countries especially the Cote d'Ivoire.

So, from the responses so far, the classic #5 cut seems to be the favorite for dodo here.

I was "updating" my original post on your thread here and didn't realize you had replied me. I want you to read it again and give suggestions on whether my regular oil (which is olive oil) would still ensure that I'll get slightly different tastes with the different plantain cuts? Any suggestions on alternative healthy oils for frying?

I cut 1, 3 & 5 when preparing plantain myself.. 2 is mostly reataurant style to cheat customers.
That 4 is just somehow, you'll end up spending more time and resources in the kitchen.

No, I haven't, but from what I've seen, I'll definitely love those places.
Especially Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire.

They're mostly Nigerians, that's why, and Nigerians hardly like trying something different. cheesy

Okay.
If you have enough olive oil to deep fry your plantains on medium to low heat, you're good to go. I doubt it'll affect the taste of the plantains negatively.

Do you know (quality) palm oil is one of my favorite for frying plantains? It give it a certain traditional taste.

Yes na.
The smaller cuts taste sweeter due to longer caramelization.
They take longer to fry too.
